Fire Music was conceived of, and commissioned by, serial collaborator Marie Heitz in response to the 2018/2019 Tasmanian Bushfires. Marie envisioned a cycle of life and fire, tracking our native bush environment, the character & destructive power of fire, the devastation following an inferno, and the gradual return to life that is a particular part of the Australian bushfires. The end result is in four movements: Life, Fire, Desolation & Renewal. Fire Music was composed for clarinet & string orchestra, with further versions with piano, string quartet & full orchestra. Clarinetist, Andrew Seymour has premiered the work with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, pianist Karen Smithies, and the Tasmanian String Quartet.
