The last one is spot on. I think everything about the recent sims games could fall into this category. You wanna play as monsters or aliens or something like that, ok i can understand putting that in a dlc, everything else the sims does should just be in the base game.
I do agree in a general sense.. you should not have to pay $15 so your virtual people can do laundry. But why would they stop, when people will keep buying it anyway?

The dragon age one is a weird one because the game was so rushed by EA the fact it was as workable as it was , is pretty remarkable .

Considering that they were ordered by EA to use the incomplete proprietary Frostbite Engine rather than Unreal Engine 3 went to explain a lot to the crunch at BioWare. Most of the assets for Inquisition had to be developed in-house, and weren't properly implemented into the Frostbite Engines assets afterwards, which led to no amount of issues when Andromeda was released years later.
Dead rising 4. Making you pay for overtime mode. When it was every other game before
If only Microsoft didn't want to make dead rising the last of us for about the first 6 months of development. And at least frank rising had different gameplay
I took a break from destiny 2 for a year. Then got back on to play with the bros. I bought the witch queen and lightfall to catch back up. Which weren’t cheap. I played through the witch queen campaign and then realized they wanted that 2000 silver to purchase the dungeon keys on top of what I already spent. It rubbed me wrong and was so egregious. That i never played lightfall and i uninstalled the game never to play it again. And I won’t be playing destiny 3 if it ever comes out. I’m not getting burned again.

New game+, a feature tht has been there in the older games and now they decided to make us pay extra fr it.
Every single part of that DLC had been included in the previous game for free.
Mine is the Just Dance ubisoft game. When i bought it it has set playlists and there were a few I loved to do. I got on i can't remember how long ago and saw that several of the songs that were available to me before were locked behind a subscription pay wall now. I haven't played since. If it was available when I bought it, it should still be available now.
I had Dragon Age Inquisition on the ps3. I only found out that Solas was the Dread Wolf due to the lead up for the next Dragon Age game.

FWIW, the plural of amiibo, would be amiibo. Japanese nouns don't pluralise. Which means EVERY Japanese noun is the same as "sheep".

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Pay for NG+ so your grinding to level 70 is quicker. Oddly enough there apparently is nothing new compared to the other in game dungeons except for different skin colors. Heavy pass for me

Pokemon Red and Blue started the trend of having to pay for the essential feature of having a second save slot and the full game on two cartridges?

One of the core gimmick of Pokémon is to trade them with others in order to complete your collection, that made sense back then. Moreover, when the OG Pearl and Diamond came out you could pretty easily trade online for free. But no second save slot, on one hand, I can understand the frustration. On the other I guess they force you into a single save to make use of the trading system again. Considering how the GTS works, you could easily trade with yourself choice-locked 'mons like starters and some legendaries, defeating the "social" aspect of the game.
@@CulturexHardcore It's not like this cannot be solved by having special 'save' slots for the rare monsters that will make sure that if you trade one of those rare monsters that you're locked out of getting them on any save file, and vice versa, if you get one of them from a trade that it's available for all of your saves.
That being said, this entire concept is just terrible money grab. You can argue all you want that it 'makes sense' for the social element, but reality is that those games are single player games. In the first place, you can get all of that 'single player' so long as you spend enough money for two consoles and two copies. Hence, yeah. It's just a money grab.
Back many years ago I used to play Dungeons and Dragons online, when It came out I bought the game ($50 iirc) and paid a monthly sub. I quit for a while and went back when it was free to play, only to find my main character behind a pay wall. They told me to pay or not play and I chose the latter.
I love this look so much 😊, I watch for the content, but that was too adorable not to mention.
Is there an Outro DLC pack? This lack of them really makes the videos feel as unfinished as the games we complain about
Asura's Wrath was the first game that came to my mind. A bunch of stuff tied behind paid dlc.
Did any of these lists mention the ONE piece of DLC for Fable 3? The black dye? That was not even black, but dark grey....
The one thing I have seen the Sims 4 doing more a little here and there is including bundle packages and will have discount prices on some of the DLC at least on the Playstation network. I got my Sims 4 in a paid bundle a couple of years ago with the Star Wars DLC.
The last bit of rebellion in tue end looked cute. Very few people have the balls to resist. Still cute though.
I love the Sims 4, but my laptop can’t take much more as far as expansions go. And…there’s NO WAY I’m paying $40 just for some new content. 🤨

Where was Final Fantasy 15 on either of these list? 3 DLC essential to the plot, another that changes how you view the main antagonist, and 3 cancelled DLC when the director left the studio.
I wouldn’t say episodes for the gang were essential but they did give info that was neat to know

The Sims 3 is the last one I'll buy, unless they make some major changes regarding base content. Yeah, the base Sims 3 had content removed from the base game that was in the Sims 2, but at least it added in the ability to leave the house and explore the neighborhood, what did 4 add? Nothing.
the most egregious example of this I can think of is Eye of Judgement, a tcg released for the playstation 3 eye toy. the game itself was actually really fun, unfortunately once the second set for it came out the game required that you buy one of the $~20 starter decks for the new set to play. meaning if you didn't buy the new cards then the disk and cards you already had weren't even worth the plastic/cardstock they were printed on. A fact they neglected to tell you about until the sets release, AFTER updating the softwere for it.
I've been playing The Sims series since TS1, and I really don't think I'm even going to play The Sims 5 whenever it launches. If you were to buy all The Sims 4's DLC at full price you're looking at well over 1k USD. It's absolutely insane.
The fast travel does not bother me - Skyward Sword was designed without it, and the original doesn't even have it. They added it as a nice-to-have in the HD version.

When I buy a game and it locks *anything* behind a paywall, I never buy from that company again. Why a successful franchise would risk alienating their player base is beyond me.
My guess is because they get away with it. People pony up the extra cash and fall for the same trick over and over.

With the Nintendo example, I can’t remember if the convinient one was included as standard in the original Skyward Sword or not. If it was in the original, than yes absolutely, it was scummy to hide it behind a paywall. If it wasn’t, than the scummiest thing was the price of the amiibo. I don’t have a ton of complaints about the other amiibo unlocks, except for the Metroid hardest mode, that was scummy.
2k my career mode is unfair in a sense. You have to buy virtual coins to actually enjoy your career. Either spend a extra 20-40 bucks or you have to work your way up from 60-66 overall
I couldn't defeat the last boss before the that cut scene and ended up just looking up the ending on CZcams
The ONE grace that Destiny 2's free to play model has now, in my opinion, is that the first 3 raids of Destiny 1 are reprised and included in the free to play Destiny 2. They're all really good content drops and the only thing really worth playing with friends outside dlc's unless you like PvP too.
Mark Darrah would have a lot to say about the Trespasser one. He insists that this is not an issue.
I like how you call Trespasser the "real ending" but then go on to talk about how its just a good dlc. And just because it helps the next game make more sense doesn't make it "the real ending"

Dragon Age: Origins…. You had to buy a DLC to store your stuff. Warden’s Keep DLC was the only place that had a storage chest. If you didn’t buy it, you’d be quickly throwing your legendary gear on the ground.
Companies do this because people cough up the money. Stop doing that and 1 of 2 things will happen; either those Companies will stop doing those shady practices or they'll go out of business
I'm convinced that most gamers are apathetic idiots with more money than sense, so that's never going to happen. They might raise a fuss, but 90% of the time they're going to let companies keep steamrolling them with anticonsumer practices and asking for more with their wallet.
A Good example is Warner Bros with Suicide Squad. Everyone needs to be consistent and let these corporations know that they can’t sell us all this garbage. Stop buying cosmetics, boosters and other crap that should have been in the main game.

They just keep pushing out the same garbage, because it makes them money. Which is, in my opinion why the industry is in the place it is.
Yeah….. I don’t like to think about how much I’ve spent on The Sims 4, especially since I actually rarely Play. 😩
It is one of the few Permanent Installs on my Series S Internal Drive, and a fallback when I can’t decide what else to do, but I frequently don’t touch it for Months and have no Families more than maybe 2 whole Generations. 😒

I have actually logged 40+ hours of Sims 4 with just the base game. It gets monotonous and definitely not the 'full' experience but I would argue there is enough there to justify a full game. Tbh I may have actually bought expansions if there weren't so many and it was feasible to get them all but I fear going down that slippery slope and coming out $1,000 lighter

about dragon age inquisition... I loved that game so much that when I got it on origin, a few years later I got it on steam too and hoped I could replay the game again... so I start up the game and wanted to play new game... but there it was, my save file from the past playthrough... making me understand that they sold me my game again :/ that's very scummy... it's like buying a car and you loved it so much that you wanted to buy another one of the same type but the salesman comes to your garage and slaps a price tag on the car you already own
Destiny 2 even took Cayde from us and is selling him back in an expansion.

I call them "amiibos", because that's how the plural is formed in english.
Adding an "i" at the end for the plural is for latin-based words, which "amiibo" is not.
I've played Destiny 1 and 2, If you don't buy the season pass then you have to pay separately for each DLC. Practically all games are set up that way. If people really want to complain, it's the Mobile App games that are the real pay to play, where people spend $1000s of dollars to get ahead on the game and still not be very far along. They aren't going to make new content for free. The only micro transactions apply to cosmetics only. Lord of the Rings Online is a real pay to play game, where you get to level 30 and have to pay to remove the block to continue on to new content. The only plus side is you also earn gold coins that can be used to unlock new content or trade for gear upgrades, so you'll have choose wisely or fork over the buck to buy extra gold coins.
Skip Fates... It was an attempt to capitalize on Awakening's popularity. The narative is confusing, there's so many characters I couldnt care less abourlt and was fine if I lost combat units (which lowers the stakes and makes the game too easy). The third path, I have been told is actually pretty good but they had lost me long before that. I own the expansion (got it on 3Ds before the closure) but I just havent bothered with it.
Echos is better and 3 Houses has its flaws, but was much more enjoyable.
Pay to Play game features or essentials are my absolutely worst to deal with
Just FYI, the dungeons in Destiny aren't actually required to get better gear...
Assassins creed, endings locked into graphic novels.
The series has never been great with endings anyway; at least it makes it easier to ignore those.

Its actually wild how Bungie exposed themselves to horribly with Destiny.
Bungie really made the public believe that it was their parent companies to blame for everything. And because of the growing distain for publishers, and the sentiment that studios should have their own creative freedom, the public easily bought in and fought for Bungie every step of the way. Whether it was against their own parent company Xbox, or against their current owner (at the time) Activision-Blizzard. They really did a great job of making it seem like every bad or greedy decision made, was one that was out of their control....
Then eventually we realized that it was all them. Theyd been making every greed, heavily handed monetization, and consumer unfriendly decision completely free of their publishers. Even when left to their own devices, theyd made every step to soak up as much as they could. And even when given the opportunity to walk back stuff, they made it so that you had to pay even more through the nose, and even then they could cut stuff out on a whim.
Not that it matters though. This is going to be one of those studio stories where they get away with practically everything and people still eat it up. When Marathon eventually drops, despite us already knowing its a live service game, people are going to buy into the hype and dive in just to be shocked when they find the trash heaps.
Skyward Sword fast travel wasn't really needed. The bird statues and the bird itself are more than enough for the game.
Again, that is why it is always morally okay to pirate from nintendo.

Fallout 76 should be on this list.
They force you to get Fallout 1st, because eventually you have to stop playing as you will reach your different stash limits.
Playing more and getting more gold/tokens/legendary gear will only encumber you and make you literally unable to play.
There were a few "good" updates, according to some people, since I stopped playing, but I doubt they will have removed those limits.

Epona, 1 horse power, the motorbike from the dlc, 100 horse power. (or whatever it actually is) Yeaahh, I'll go for using the bike rather then a horse for getting around tears of the kingdom, much easier & faster.

Destiny 2 was "free" to play in that you have a set amount of content that's "free" but the majority of the content is paid.

Destiny 2 isnt free to play the free version is basically just a demo version . Mate of mine started playing and couldnt do any story content unless he paid for the dlc packs
Man, I haven’t bought any new games since Tears of the Kingdom. Games just haven’t seemed very interesting lately, or they’re on PS5 - which I don’t want to buy for 1 or 2 games

The number of games that I consider good enough to pay ridiculous amounts of money to play can be counted on the fingers of one finger of one of my hands. Final Fantasy XIV.
And even that is truly truly awful in places. Like the entirety of the battle system. Fortunately, that is something I don't do much anyway. So I keep giving them £17/month to massively enjoy the half of the game that I do like.

You can get epona from just playing botw and totk, you dont need the amiibo. she's an above avg horse, so it doesnt matter.
The only amiibo locked feature is the wolf link summon, and it sucks anyway.
You need to have a save file on your amiibo from Twilight Princess where you completed the "start with nothing and clear all floors without dying" challenge mode
However many hearts you have at the end of that mode is the health wolf link has as a summon.
so either you did do the mode and its useful bc your link is early on in botw and you're still too weak to simply kill the monsters yourself; in this case the wolf is a tanky companion that trivializes gameplay by 1shotting most enemies.
But wolf links damage never increases, so it becomes useless as the monsters level up.
or you didnt do the mode and the wolf dies fast and is pointless.
its also a pain when you dont want to kill certain enemies for one reason or another, it can absolutely aggro enemies you didnt want to fight, trigger explosions that would kill you or knock you off a cliff.
Overall it doesnt matter at all, if you teleport say by entering a shrine, wolf link is unsummoned and cannot be brought back for 24 real time hours.
At best its a really cool flavor pet that is either way too good or pointless and frustrating to use.

Yeah, I took a break after playing Destiny 2 almost exclusively for the first 15 months after launch. I came back because I wanted to play the red war campaign only find out it had been stolen. Won't be buying any more Destiny or bungie products.

I Blame airlines for the Misery tax what was once free or comfort is not a cost , when plane fall apart in the air and whistle blowers turn up dead. well . its an unfinished game , a loot grab, and cruelty to developters and voice actors
