    I paid $16K OTD for my '22 ATAS DCT, in 2022. It had 800 miles on it but also: upper/lower crash bars, bar risers, Corbin seat, 3 piece OEM Honda hard cases, center stand, OEM seat and highway pegs. Since then, I've added many more things (auxiliary lighting, Zumo XT, Bark Busters, Tusk hard and soft panniers, DCT foot shifter, left hand rear brake conversion, tool tube, side stand enlarger, tank bag, protector pads, Altrider headlight guard, fork wind deflector, radiator guards, aftermarket touring windscreen,Touratech chain guard, billet oil cap and dipstick, a half dozen or so action camera/phone/cup holder mounts and a few other, smaller things...LOVE THE BIKE. I've also found it to be very easy to pick up (lowered it to a blanket multiple times, on and off pavement) but, then, I'm 6'3", 225lbs and stronger than average. I can't honestly think of a bad thing to say about it as a one-quiver machine. I have three bikes but will be selling the other two as they are no longer ridden, after buying the AT.

    I've narrowed in on the Africa Twin after riding my 2014 Honda CB500X with Rally Raid kit for the last 2 years to learn and get better at riding. Biggest reason why i'm wanting to pick one up is because i'm 6'3" 200lbs and ride 2up a lot with my kids or wife so def need the power. I also broke my left foot in 3 places last summer and manual shifting is just not working anymore so the DCT will be a godsend for me.

    Good pointers about what you are seeing with the AT. I am shopping for one at this time in Canada and the problem we have up here is we are locked into either the Regular Twin or a full blown Adventure Sports with the Electronic Suspension. I like the size/width and weight of the base twin but would like the new adjustable windshield from the 23 adventure sports and the tubeless tires. And don’t really need or want the larger fuel tank. Nowhere can I find a review with anybody raving about a decent aftermarket windscreen for the regular twin. Fitting up the regular twin with tubeless tires ends up costing more than the adventure sports edition and your are missing out on the electronic suspension. So I think I will likely just end up just going with the full meal deal.

    • @adventureundone
      @adventureundone  Před rokem +1

      yeah I was in the same mind set. I really wanted the tubules tires, and if I wanted tubules on the base twin, I would be right at the adventure price.

    I test rode the 2023 Suzuki v strom 1050de and really really liked it, wanted to buy it! The dealer arranged a test on the AT base model with dct, so I rode that and OMG...amazing doesn't do it justice! £13067 v strom 1050de is £13677. They had a ATAS all singing and dancing, black, they offered it to me for £14000 as they had it for a while! I asked if I could test ride, but they didn't have a demo. It's about 50kilos heavier and that worries me as I want to do byroads!

    Absolutely LOVE your passion and enthusiasm for this incredible bike. Thanks for a great informative and entertaining vid. I have just had a test ride on the top-line AT with DCT and ES - the bike I would ideally buy, just like yours. I'm coming off a 2014 Multistrada which is NOT an offroad bike but was and still is marketed as one. I use 90% on road and the Ducati is beyond awesome in handling and power. Unfortunately, even though I've had it since new, it is less than reliable and quality nowhere near Honda. I'm sick of it letting me down. Only has 3,500kms but has been unreliable since new with oil leaks, malfunctions and zero rear brake(!). Therefore the only thing I can see that the Ducati can offer over the AT is 30% more power and arguably some sharper handling. I found the AT handling to be absolutely everything I'd want and need - nice and light, turn in quickly and very forgiving. The power, after the Ducati, I would describe as 'adequate' and 'acceptable' - not exciting like the 150HP Multistrada. I left the test ride wondering if I'd be happy with the power and for a few days I pondered this. THEN I saw some leaks on the web from a supposedly very reliable source about a SUPERCHARGED AT in the wings at Honda supposedly coming out as the 2024 model. So I'm waiting! A supercharger would be a no brainer as this one is said to be specifically for low-mid range boost, not a screamer like the Kawa H2. Thanks again for a great vid, keep up the fantastic reviews. Cheers from Sydney Australia.

  • @markrutherford7798

    I have a 2020 Twin AS ES and concur with the carplay issues. I have found a startup sequence that works most of the time. Start headset first. Start bike second. Connect iPhone to lighting connector last. This pattern seems to work fairly well. Also, the iPhone Bluetooth must be turned off in my case so my iPhone does not connect to the headset first. Lastly, to get music to play, I always close all apps on the iPhone before I start the above sequence - otherwise the system is confused. I too wish it was so much simpler.
    Regarding the weight, it is heavy and one does get used to it. I had an accident on asphalt end on last November where I ran over some spilled oil on the road and has traction control set to 2, Bike spun out at 10 mph, fell on my right leg and broke it in three places. While I felt no pain at the moment of impact, the cost to repair my leg cost me three fully outfitted Africa Twins.

    My buddy has one. Its just kinda expensive for what you get...I'd rather go for Triumph 1200 or a Norden. I'm not a fan of how the dash works or having it switch to default settings when you power off the bike. My wife hates the pillion seat so it would be terrible for me as 2up riding. Plus I've seen the hassle it is to get to the airbox (triumph is no better). Plus the cheaper Africa Twin still uses tubes and the earlier models had suspension defects. If Honda would have put cruise control on the new Transalp I would have been a happy camper....but I'm probably getting one of those other bikes I mentioned. Thank you for sharing you insight on your bike. Glad you are very happy with your purchase....just hope I choose wisely. Cheers!

    I live in Europe, got a quote for the basic and non DCT version at 15k euro and I added everything on it, except some stickers for the luggage and the side panniers (wasn't interested).
    Sadly the dealer had only the DCT version available for test and it was awful, especially in the corners (yes, I tried all the settings still felt lagging in corners), my gf complained that on trail roads her spine was taking a beating.
    Went for the Desert x in the end, liked the retro dakar look and the tubeless tires ( I'm not made of money, i just had the once in a lifetime opportunity to get a Ducati).
    I still love Hondas and maybe in a few years I'll be owning a Africa Twin.

    I paid $12K out the door and delivered for my new '19 ATAS in spring of 2020. Honda did a one-year same as cash finance and I put five grand down and paid it off in eight months. Perri's Motorsports in Grand Junction delivered it NO CHARGE to La Veta, a 10 hour+ round trip. My wife and I had just sold our old XT600's and she inherited a DR650 from her mother and had just bought a 650 Vstrom. I wanted one bike that would go anywhere that she would go on either of her bikes (she's a Brokaw and hails from a legendary motorcycling family...I'm just chopped liver). Once I test rode the AT, I knew it was the bike for my wants. I'm 5'10, 195 lbs and not a lot of fat. The bike's weight was not a problem, but I did buy the optional low seat. I can almost go flat footed, and for touring I prefer the high position or even the high seat for comfort. The AT doesn't seem big anymore, but most other bikes just seem small. I bought a suspension lowering kit just in case, but never had it installed. I've put about 12K miles on the bike, and the roughest ride I've done is Cordova Pass on the south side of Spanish Peaks. It was a breeze, and I had no problem keeping pace with two DR650's and a KTM300XC.
    The problem now is that I have a bike that can do out of state BDR's, her Vstrom isn't right for her in the rough stuff, and her DR won't handle the touring well enough. She's content with what she has and enjoys touring, wining and dining or short dual sport rides, but I'd really like to do a BDR with her and a small group. I've also owned a slew of dirt bikes and a KZ1000ST back in the 80's as a Marine in SoCal, then for a spell after finishing my enlistment.
    Upgrades I've made: Continental TKC 80's, factory panniers and top case, Atlas throttle lock, Auxbeam auxiliary lights, tank bag and crash bar bags...mods I plan on are larger windscreen and a tubeless rim set and a soft, rackless bag set. All said, the ATAS is still my dream bike and I can't imagine parting with it.
