Saddest moment to me was after the Legacy DLC if everyone is dead. You talk to Gamlen, then after he leaves, you talk to your mother's ghost and she tells you that they're always with you and it will be alright.

@xxflaxxdread first scene with Fenris and his sister is in Act 3 after confronting and defeating Denarius. Second scene with Hawke and Carver is at the end of Act 1 in the Deep Roads (after defeating the giant rock wraith) if Carver (or Bethany) is in the party but Anders isn't.

@@FathersUnited-fu there were leaks and it’s a mission based hack and slash co op game that used to have live service features that they’ve cut out and are now attempting to make something out of it but given biowares recent history I have extremely serious doubts it’ll be any good which sucks because DAO is my fave game of all time
After everything Hawke went through... How did he not became a blood mage and decided to kill everyone? He would have every reason to do so.
He had the menatality and will to resist hate and anger
At the end of the game, I feel like he didn't asked for this. The mage rebellion, leaving his own home again. Feel like the only things holding him together are his friends.
@@Become-Eggplant And I always remember what the Inquisitor says of Hawke if he dies in Adamant, that he accomplished all of what he did by himself. He suffered great personal losses, played a crutial part of the events that almost broke Thedas apart before Corypheus, and all of that without the authority of being a Grey Warden or an Inquisition behind his back. Just the sheer determination of surviving to protect his family/friends. Of the three protagonists, I think he's the one with the most amount of self-earned worth.
Leandra's death was the last straw for my mage hawke to betray the mages and sided with the templars.
I understand not all mages are bad. But after leandra's death I just have not faith towards the mages anymore

The best outcome for Carver was leaving him behind and letting him become a templar. He eventually comes around to understanding Hawke and why the family avoided the attention of the people for so long. He writes about how awful the tower is and how poorly the mages were being treated. Eventually he apologized for being such an ass to Hawke for all those years and it makes me glad that Hawke still has family left instead of being hunted and alone.
Yeah, it was nice to see Carver growing up. In the end, he defy Meredith, and joins you to stop her madness.
He has a good arc as a templar too. He tries to help mages from his position and in the end he stands up to Meredith and refuses to fight his own sibling. Carver can be an ass, but he's such a well-written character, one of the best in DA2.
He remains somewhat bitter. As a warden he actually grows. He softens towards his brother and his confidence in himself grows to where its clear he feels he no longer has to compete. Its the opposite for Bethany. Its better to leave her behind so she goes to the circle. She resents you if she becomes a warden.
I prefer Warden Carver to Templar Carver. He grows more as Warden than as Templar. As Warden he starts off bitter, but as time passes, he appreciates the freedoms but also Hawke more. While Tenplar Carver had to learn more of a lesson to best understand Hawke.

I think Hawke is one of the most profound characters bioware has ever written. His life is a continuous alternation of suffering and pain, never a moment of peace, Hawke's life is marked by deep traumas. He made me empathize a lot, and I think that if a game can convey and leave these emotions in you, it's a great game. Nice video, make more!
I really hope there’s a good payoff to their character in DA4, I hope they come back whether or not they “died” in the Fade and have a real send off as the Champion of Kirkwall, hell I would even be fine with the Fade sacrifice character being an antagonist

Out of all the Dragon Age MCs I've never dreamt of living Hawke's life. Man loses everything no matter what choices you make in game. Add insult to injury canonically they're left in the fade to battle the oldest demon conceived.

I didn't like the game because you play as Hawke as opposed to your own origin character, and it seemed to me like Hawke is supposed to be a male mage, so it's lacking in the rpg aspect imo. Another big thing I didn't like was the lack of style the game had, in regards to the ui and menu. A dull reddish black and lack of detail, whereas origins ui had much more style and details. Finally I found the story boring, I never became attached to any characters and found that spending the whole game in one city was not exciting. I also thought the shift of focus to mages vs templars to be boring, especially compared to origins which is about a world ending threat.
Hawke has been through hell, and depending on choices made, his sibling dies in the deep roads/becomes a grey warden/or Bethany joins the circle/carver becomes a Templar knight, if mage, you lose sister at the start, otherwise the brother. Can anyone really blame Hawke for not wanting his companions to murder their family regardless of the past? Honestly, how could he have held onto his mental state despite the emotional turmoil?
Bethany becoming a Grey Warden is awesome though, nothing all that tragic about it IMO.

True and tbh its not really saving her as she will still die to the blight anyway. You just slowed its progression. She writes letters stating how she hates the sleepless nights filled with nightmares and days fighting darkspawn. It's no life it's servitude and Bethany loaths Hawke for forcing her into that life. Much better for her to be a circle mage as she does talk rudely to Hawke but nowhere near as bad if she was a warden. Plus you save her personally from the Templar and your relationship is mended before then.
Probably because the entirety of his story is a wet fart that has no real depth, and why should anyone give a fuck? Seriously, I don’t understand all this “Woe is Hawke!” drivel I see in the comments. His whole story was “meh” from start to finish. The only issue I had was the world map wasn't well developed and the stories were rushed. Other than that it was fine.

Carver was alive & well in my playthrough and I rarely had Fenris in my party. I'll always love these games for how many different ways we're able to play them
I put Carver in the Grey Wardens cause it feels better than him being a Templar cause at least Hawke still have a living sibling
Hawke will always be my favorite thing to come from Dragon Age. Underrated as fuck hero. It is disgusting that such a compelling protagonist was shoved into such a rushed game.

Literally just beat Dragon Age 2 for the first time, Fenris was probably my favourite companion. Tried the romance with him which was interesting while playing a Mage, had ups and downs and I ultimately had to kill him in the end. What a tearjerker ending that was.
Honestly can't wait for my second playthrough and I can't believe people didn't like Dragon Age 2 when it launched. Probably my favourite BioWare game thus far
You didn't ask, but I'm giving my opinion anyway.
There was always an end goal in Dragon Age Origins and Awakening. In DA2, there never really was an end goal per se; it was just a character living a life and having some crazy things occur that said character became involved with. That radical shift in story telling was off putting for a lot of people who felt that the game didnt have any real focus (and the simplified mechanics for better console play). Once people began to understand that the relationships and events surrounding the characters WERE the story (rather than side plots), people warmed up to it. Took a while, though.

I restarted the game and brought Anders to the deep roads so that at least Bethany could have a happy ending. I ain't watching her die or go to the Templars.
I was happy to send her to the Wardens. Alistair and Warden Commander Cousland are why I respect them.
Bethany hated being a warden though

Actually the best outcome for Beth is to become a mage in the circle. She will find peace with her magic talent and will be in the circle taking care for the mages that did not rebell. For Karver the best outcome is to become grey warden. He will stop comparing himself with the Hawke and will find a greater purpose. Beth with wardens and Karver with templars are worse outcomes that will make them unhappy about their lives.
Gideon Emery is such a good voice actor.

Oh my goodness, this hits close to home because I had Bethany and my party for so long that when she died and I had to give her that Mercy...... It wrecked me. Rest in peace Bethany you'll always be my title healer! 😭
When I first played this game, I had to make that hard choice and swore every playthrough afterward I would never let her venture into the deep roads until I found out that if you take her and Anders with you and varric into the deep roads, you save her by her becoming a grey warden. Bethany is the best sibling ever. She was my go to mage. I honestly would have her free to use her magic instead of being apart of the circle under the oppression of the templars
And this is why i leave the siblings behind or bring anders and why i always make Alastair king so i don't have to make that choice in DAI😂
oh my god i get you!!!!!! I can't imagine the impact of our choices in DAI will impact DA4.. oh crap.. I hope I didn't leave a ticking bomb anywhere.. gods! Kinda reaped some consequences throughout DA2 and DAI.. went back to draogn age keep and fixed them all lmfao.. I couldn't handle some of the outcomes of my choices in previous games....
At the end if you do everything right you get all of them helping you it is just so freaking fantastic epic fight for sure

I know dragon age 2 is not perfect but we all must admit Hawke is one of the saddest characters in dragon age he lost everything first there father then there home lost there brother or sister ( depending on the class you pick) then loose ether them again if you bring them to the deep roads or leave them behind to ether join the templars or the circle or the gray wardens then after some time loosing his mother to a depressed crazy blood mage and then his entire home and there friends ( depending on the choices you make)

People hated DA2 but it was a fantastic game imo. It brought combat up a notch and made it more of a character focused game

Seriously, Hawke's entire story is just one personal tragedy after another. First, they lose their father. Then they lose their home and one sibling to the Blight. Their mother blames them for the sibling's death. Then they lose the OTHER sibling. Mom blames them for that too! Then mom is MURDERED!
God forbid you romance Anders or fail to gain loyalty from your romance options! 😭
(And people wonder why Varric is our fan favorite. He's the bro Hawke needs AND deserves.)

This has been an excellent series of games with so many followers so many choices and has taken way to long for another chapter it has always made you very invested in all the characters

Dude, it can look like 90s Doom and I'd play it if the story was fantastic. I don't like High Detail games like the children of today do. Look at how Halo started, murky details and basic models, but one of the best stories ever. Now it's all prettied up and they killed Cortana. Still a good story though, shouldn't have killed Cortana, and the details are so amped I need a new PC...

Hawks suffereing is why i couldnt bring myself to let them die. They deserve a chance at happiness, a chance to be with Merrill and/or Isabella (in my playthroughs)
These scenes are why I love DA2. Looking past the games flaws, to me it was playing(living)through the eyes of survivor and others doing their best fighting to stay alive and move forward. I love this game cuz it shows us what it was like on the other side of experiencing the blight.
When hawkes mom died it hit me hard "that man wouldlve kept me trapped here but now im free, ill be with carver and bethany and your father, we'll be a family again....but you'll be all alone" 😢😢

Despite how odd of a game DA2 was with its radical change in theme and graphics from DAO, the story and heartbeat of the series really hit home here. By this point you're well into the game, having seen either Bethany or Carver die (or both), carnage in the streets, heartbreak and suffering. Hawke struggles on and gets very little gratitude for it, but even in this moment, after having lost his family and seeing his friend (or lover) in so much pain, he still asks Fenris to show his sister mercy. Not for his own sake, but because he doesn't want to lose another person because of a single bad decision.
My fan fic is when my Hawke sees my Mage Inquisitor, she reminded her of her own sister. That's why in my campaign, hawke stayed in the fade, she couldn't bare seeing my Inquisitor die, the person that acts like her little sister, the person that reminds her of her own sister, she can't bare losing another sister, she already lost her entire family, she will rather die than to lose another one.

Enjoyed the story a lot and didn’t mind the simple gameplay. Fell short on world design and things to do but glad we still got what we got.

Hawke was my favorite MC in Dragon Age. His/her story touched me more than Warden's or Inquisitor's. One of my Hawke's playthrough was very sad. Her sister died, mother died, she had to kill her lover Anders and she ended up dying in Fade in DA:I. And her personality was humorous :(
Man you fought back, but that time where you went for it with like 26 seconds way in your territory on 4th down came back to kill you. It was the buffer for the bears to stay ahead.

My first DA2 playthrough was an aggresive Hawke with no lover and no family left.
Yes, DA2 had problems with its gameplay design but I couldn't deny how great the story of Hawke and his companions were. And the main story also were great with many emotional plot twist here and there through out the journey.
Dragon Age 2 is underrated as fuck.
I remember having fun with this game... and now the new DA after so many years.... man...
This is why you never go to the deep roads without a Warden if youre taking a sibling.
Also Carver seems to thrive with the Wardens, so that's something.

DAO was definite a great "origins" of a story while DA2 may lack the RP options DAO have, the drama and tragedy and the realistic dilemma Hawke and the others experienced here are just too memorable and really set the stage for the epic coming of DAI... They may have flaws but this trilogy really isn't complete without each other!
This shows how different each playthrough can be because for me, fenris basically despised me, but worked with me despite our different vuews becausevi stillbdid what was right.
Carver immediately joined with the templars and barely talked to me at all. The only time i engaged with his character was at the end when i convinced him not to side with the bbeg

I never killed him, I left him out and he became a templar. That seemed a more fitting relationship for them. When Hawk's mother died and how she died, that wrecked me.
