I think the person Anthony Hopkins is referring to is Jehoshaphat in the Old Testament. In the book of 2 Kings, chapter 3 God tells Elisha the prophet to tell Jehoshaphat to dig ditches although there is no rain at that time. Elisha also says that the ditches will fill up with rain, and God will hand over their enemies, the Moabites to them. Jehoshaphat does what God tells him to do, and God does His part and keeps his word, but this is not an almighty act of will on either the part of Elisha or Jehoshaphat. It is a simple act of trusting and obeying God, then seeing Him work.

Believing is a miraculous thing. I’ve witnessed it in my own life. I’m a Stage 4 Breast Cancer Survivor with 23 yrs in remission. I outlived my surgeon who gave me 3-6months death sentence… he’s no longer with us.
I asked God to let me live to raise my daughter, and I’m still here, she’s 29yrs old.

A few years ago, on Valentines Day, I dressed up in my finest clothes to meet a stranger that I had run into twice before at the grocery store, but never exchanged contact information with, and never made plans with. I wrote him a note, asking him to meet me at 6 o'clock on Valentines Day at a particular store, and placed it under my pillow. On Valentines Day, I arrived at the store at 6 o'clock and waited for about 15 minutes by the entrance, then went walking through the isles looking for him...and I found him. ♡ We gave each other the longest hug, like he had been waiting for me, too. Then we went on a date. THAT made me believe for life. ✨️

No matter what happens keep believing even if it's not what you want to happen keep believing. I lost my son believing every thing will be alright he going to survive drug abuse. He wasn't able to; the consequences of using LSD destroyed him. I was angry with God for being angry with him. I believe everything was going to be alright God gave me a strong feeling of pure inner peace. I was relieved from the painful worrying of my son dying. He was going to survive. This gift was a week before his death. Through the years I understood what the real meaning of believing is for me.
I was angry with myself for believing every thing was going to be alright. I am no longer mad at God and myself for believing; because every thing is alright today. The inner peace I feel is still in my heart and stronger than ever. It comes from the great love of family and friends ( especially love of his friends) they showed in their hearts. That is the miracle of love no matter what happens in life. Inner peace is love.
I lost 2 children it's very hard sometimes to live without my children 😢

The first time I heard “act as if you believe “ was at an AA mtg in my very early sobriety. Act as if you believe well I did and I asked with every fiber of my being for help because I knew I couldn’t go on. I lost my marriage, children and then my freedom. For 27 years. I can’t give you a precise date, but somewhere in the first 30-60 days I realized that I was sober and had been and was staying where I was. That was 5-20-96. This year I will be 28 years sober and there’s no one or nothing else that worked until I did that prayer and totally 💯 surrendered. This video got me. I know from the message but I admire Sir Anthony so much. Thank you Sir

In Kenya, in drought stricken bush, they are digging ‘ditches’, round holes about 2-3 foot across so that any water or mist that arrives doesn’t just sit in the earth and disappear, but can trickle down the slope and be concentrated in the hollow. Above 1890, my great grand parents were going to an outdoor church meeting. There'd been a drought had plaqued the countryside for months, crops were dieing, wells going dry. The preschers of all the churches in the area called a prayer meeting to pray to God for rain.
As my grandparents were walking toward the meeting, my granpa turned and ran back to the house. He caught up eith his wife with his umbrella. She said it hasnt rained in months. He shook his head.

Your compassion to share your conviction at this time has saved me. My daughter passed away at a young 49 and I just felt so dead myself. I have never felt such pain. I am of Buddhist faith and I lost it. She was fearless, daring, out spoken, compassionate and beautiful. I went to my alter and prayed with all I have. Thank you from the deepest part of my heart. Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of my absolute favorite actors of all time, but he is a world famous actor and i think most of them are detached and has difficulty to put themselves in our (average people) place. Sounds like the passage he is referring to is a paraphrase of Elijah's confrontation with the priests of Baal, following three years of drought. He had them set up an altar for Baal and he set up another altar for God. He told them to call on Baal to light the fire under his altar. They cried out to him all day, cut themselves, prayed, danced, etc., but nothing happened. Then Elijah commanded that ditches be built around the altar of God and that water be poured over the alter and the wood that would burn under it, so much water that the ditches surrounding it would be filled. Then he called upon God and fire came from heaven and lit the altar on fire and burned up even the water in the ditches. Just after that, he went to pray for rain. The sky was completely empty of clouds, but he prayed (sitting in a birthing position, as though his intercession were birthing the rain). When he saw a cloud the size of a man's hand, he stopped, knowing the rain would come, and it did, in torrential downpours.
We were created to live by faith, but it matters who our faith is in. The priests of Baal believed in a false God and saw no effect, despite their best efforts. Elijah believed in the God who created heaven and earth and with whom he had a close relationship. His faith, rooted in a knowledge of God's will, bore much fruit.

It’s only logical and practical that we take advantage of it and choose to put that energy into positive use. Because putting energy into negative thought and doubt can be just as powerful. Our brains are magnificent things, but they are also extremely willing to believe what we tell them. And then the methods of thinking we choose to use get ingrained and turned into subconscious processes that we have much less control over.
