Thank you! My mom never wore much makeup so I never really got to play with hers but she always used a clear lipstick as chapstick so she would buy one of those for me every year. I think she used Lancome or Elizabeth Arden but mine was Maybelline, lol.

We moved to a tiny village 17 years ago and I while I love it, it makes shopping for makeup quite challenging. This is why you are helpful to me. Your descriptions are right on. I enjoy cooking too. I had you pegged as a teacher! You are clearly well educated and very organized. Plus you're articulate. So it seemed clear that you had a professional background. I went through my mineral makeup phase with Bare Minerals. I still have all the colors. I loved Biology in school, but had problems with dissection. I really hated the smell. But I was OK until the baby pig. I must have had a baby pig as a pet in a former life. 🙄 As for your makeup, it was interesting to hear what you love most and what you use most. I loved my collection of mineral makeup and was so upset when the majority of it (like everthing except a few eyeshadows) went missing during our move. I hated dissection too personally. The smell is overwhelming. Thank you for watching!
@@LexiJong Losing that makeup must have been devastating. I'm not being facetious here either. There's no way to replace what you lost. That said, I'm sure you've made up for it to some extent. You must have an extraordinary collection by prestige brands now. Even if you give a lot away you'd still have a lot. I had to have movers in the past few months and just got everything unpacked a couple of weeks ago. I'm missing things and it's driving me crazy. And they always seem to lose the stuff you can't replace.🤬
Great get to know you. We have a lot of similarities. My mom got me Clinique too, but I moved to luxury faster. It was Clinique in high school with drug store, EL in college then Lancôme for 10 years and onto Chanel and on up.🙂 You are the swatch queen. NO ONE beats you Lexi! It might've been Maybelline I thought maybe Cover Girl had these awesome slim style lipsticks. The black was lipstick and the silver was like the CDP slim ones and was a sheer. I enjoyed this Q&A very much. You are such a decent and down to earth person with great skills to transport information in an easy, understandable way. I also stopped buying Guerlain... this year I got the lip balm in the new pinky shade which I have been loving and will be panning by end of the year. However, I like the performance of the Giorgio Armani Lip Balms/Glosses and the ones from Augustinus Bader much better and will not replace the empty from Guerlain. The lipstick desaster remains a desaster. For me at least. Like you, I try to stay away from overly fragranced products. Have a lovely day Lexi ❤

You talked about Surratt and how you still use it past expiration. Since you also have an educational background in sciences, what do you think about keeping makeup past expiration? I personally do not throw makeup exactly at expiration dates because first off, they’re too expensive and some of them like Dior, recommends only 6 mo for things like eyeshadow palettes! What do you do?
Expiration dates are really just estimates as to when things will go off or become perhaps less potent or efficacious and they aren't always based on science. Sometimes they are based on just the actual raw ingredients and when you might notice a change in a particular ingredient but it doesn't take into account any changes that can occur during the formulation. I feel like some companies also just use a blanket time of 6 months to get you to buy more of their items but that is my opinion and not something I know to be factual. Powder products in particular will stay good for many years and many of the ingredients are naturally antimicrobial. Sometimes there may be an oil or something that goes rancid or something like that but I keep all of my products until I notice a change in texture or smell EXCEPT for liquid eye products like mascara and liquid eyeliners. It's too easy to introduce bacteria to the product during use and it isn't the worth the risk of a potential eye infection.
Did we all get the special trip to the Clinique counter when we were 13/14 years old?! I remember getting the pink chocolates eyeshadow quad, a pressed powder, and pink bamboo lipstick. I really love that you seem to give very candid reviews that can be trusted! Thank you!

I was surprised to learn that Prada eyeshadows are among your favorites (now, I really hope Sephora Canada gets the brand soon). I enjoyed hearing about Sadie’s personality and her sense of entitlement to your DH’s food 😅 - he has get higher in the pack ranking. It was quite eye-opening to hear about the effects of bureaucracy and forced standardization on teaching. I’m glad you switched from teaching HS to teaching on YT because you’re my fave.

CDP has a really nice mascara. It's actually my favourite mascara for length, curl and separation. BUT: no matter what I use to take it off, it's a fight and I lose eyelashes everytime. So I only wear it once in a while. I have friends and colleagues that have experienced the same thing with the product.

I really enjoyed this video Lexi! It’s so good to get to know a little of the person behind the camera. I agree with Guerlain. I LOVE their Meteorites but it is the most disappointing reformulation. Once what I have is all gone that’s it, no more Meteriorites for me which is SO sad! The violet fragrance prior was strong but it was very pleasant and added to the joy of applying the product but now, we’re left with a headache inducing fragrance that lingers all day!

Lol, I hope you put that machine to good use! I actually need to make lemon gelato this week. Since lemon is so hard to find in person, it's the main one that I make but I can never get them to stay creamy after a couple of days in the freezer. Let me know if you have any tips please!
Great video -- it's always fun to learn about a creator! I'm with you on Guerlain. I have a collection of Rouge Gs that I've always treasured, but when they pulled that stunt of redoing them, that was it for me. I have many other Guerlain products I've enjoyed, but now, I refuse to use them. It just seems like I'm advertising for them by wearing their products. (Rereading that, I suppose it does sound pretty stupid. I've already paid for them, after all, and they're good quality. But the company just rubs me the wrong way now.)

Lol, I will do that! The two fragrances that you see are the edts and they are much lighter than the original fragrances. I'll share more about those soon with an update video.
I loved getting to know more about you. It makes so much sense you’re an educator! Even though I have 4 Singapura cats, I’ve always wanted a Shiba Inu, having heard they are cat like in their cleanliness and I also love their looks ( I also love Samoyeds). However, realistically a dog is not going to happen….We have a lot of the same favorites and often wear the same foundation shades - I wear B10 in CdP, but have never tried I10, which I assume is more neutral than B10?
They are definitely cat-like in some aspects! I also love huskies but my husband isn't as fond of their size so Sadie is a good compromise. Our previous shiba didn't really like him so it took a long time to convince him, lol. I10 is more neutral than B10 but it's getting harder to find recently. I'm hoping it's just a temporary delay with the shade.
@@LexiJong Huskies are gorgeous, too, but they are large for sure.. Recently, I’ve been seeing some pomskies, which are really cute. We once had a girl cat who didn’t like my husband, so now he only wants boys and they, fortunately all love him. Actually, they are total love bugs and follow us around like puppies - one of them plays fetch! Thanks for confirming that I10 is more neutral than B10. Hopefully, they’ll bring it back soon; maybe they’re just waiting for new formulas?

I had a bad reaction too and started having to use sensitive skin products… I love the HaruHaru Wonder oil cleanser you don’t have to double cleanse with it comes off clean and the sunscreen is my absolute favorite!!! In the yellow tube it’s a moisturizer sunscreen and primer in one for me… I’ve heard the mineral one is good too but I love the advanced filters in the yellow one haven’t found a better one in over a year … great to get to know you better!!! Thank you! I was our sole income for years while he was in school and residency (dental residencies do not get paid, you pay for them like school) so now I have the freedom to spend more but it has taken a long time to get to this point.
Thank you for answering my question about your skincare. Unfortunately, I can't buy a lot of the mentioned brands because they are not available in my country. Even if the brand were to ship the products to me, the shipping price, plus additional duties and taxes, wold cost me as a one additional product . :/
I really think there are a ton of great skincare brands all over so I'm sure you can find something just as good where you live. I always focus on a good moisturizer and move on from there.

It looks pretty! Someone else here said they aren't discontinuing the foundations so I'm hoping my info was incorrect but we'll see. All I know is they are very hard to find right now in many shades.
Was so happy to hear that the Sisley blur expert is one of your *top* recommendations. I picked it up just last week, using your Allbeauty link because it was such a great deal! Thinking of now picking up the Sonia G Buffer pro to use with it (under foundation) - or do you have any better suggestions?
I think any kabuki brush works well also. I switch around depending on what needs to be washed. I use the Koyudo YOTD kabuki or the big Chanel kabuki that came out a year or two ago or the Sonia G Buffer pro. You could even use your foundation brush if you use a dense one and then go in with the foundation. I think I'll have to do that and I'm not sure why I didn't think of that before! Lol
Hi Lexi, I have quite many similar products that you would put in your shoebox: Lisa Eldridge skin tint, Sisley blur powder, just ordered the KGD powder, CDP cushion foundation, TF Rose highlighter and Suqqu moisture glaze lipsticks. I’m planning to get the Mineral Escape pallet from Fude Japan because Selfridge no longer carries it. You know that you are responsible for all of the above purchases, 😂, right?
If CDP are discontinuing the fluid foundation, I wonder what the replacement will be? I hope they don't do as Tom Ford did when they replaced the traceless soft matte (ie replace it with something utterly awful). I never buy from Charlotte Tilbury or Too Faced, because their products always disappoint me. I also don't buy from Chanticille or Westman Atelier because the quality does not justify the price

I went through my mineral makeup phase with Bare Minerals. I still have all the colors. I loved Biology in school, but had problems with dissection. I really hated the smell. But I was OK until the baby pig. I must have had a baby pig as a pet in a former life. 🙄 As for your makeup, it was interesting to hear what you love most and what you use most. @@LexiJong Losing that makeup must have been devastating. I'm not being facetious here either. There's no way to replace what you lost. That said, I'm sure you've made up for it to some extent. You must have an extraordinary collection by prestige brands now. Even if you give a lot away you'd still have a lot. I had to have movers in the past few months and just got everything unpacked a couple of weeks ago. I'm missing things and it's driving me crazy. And they always seem to lose the stuff you can't replace.🤬
Great get to know you. We have a lot of similarities. My mom got me Clinique too, but I moved to luxury faster. It was Clinique in high school with drug store, EL in college then Lancôme for 10 years and onto Chanel and on up.🙂 You are the swatch queen. NO ONE beats you Lexi! It might've been Maybelline I thought maybe Cover Girl had these awesome slim style lipsticks. The black was lipstick and the silver was like the CDP slim ones and was a sheer. I also stopped buying Guerlain... this year I got the lip balm in the new pinky shade which I have been loving and will be panning by end of the year. However, I like the performance of the Giorgio Armani Lip Balms/Glosses and the ones from Augustinus Bader much better and will not replace the empty from Guerlain. You talked about Surratt and how you still use it past expiration. Since you also have an educational background in sciences, what do you think about keeping makeup past expiration? I personally do not throw makeup exactly at expiration dates because first off, they’re too expensive and some of them like Dior, recommends only 6 mo for things like eyeshadow palettes! What do you do?
I agree it is way too expensive to just throw it all away just because they say so.😊
Expiration dates are really just estimates as to when things will go off or become perhaps less potent or efficacious and they aren't always based on science. Sometimes they are based on just the actual raw ingredients and when you might notice a change in a particular ingredient but it doesn't take into account any changes that can occur during the formulation. I feel like some companies also just use a blanket time of 6 months to get you to buy more of their items but that is my opinion and not something I know to be factual. Powder products in particular will stay good for many years and many of the ingredients are naturally antimicrobial. Sometimes there may be an oil or something that goes rancid or something like that but I keep all of my products until I notice a change in texture or smell EXCEPT for liquid eye products like mascara and liquid eyeliners. It's too easy to introduce bacteria to the product during use and it isn't the worth the risk of a potential eye infection.

CDP has a really nice mascara. It's actually my favourite mascara for length, curl and separation. BUT: no matter what I use to take it off, it's a fight and I lose eyelashes everytime. So I only wear it once in a while. I have friends and colleagues that have experienced the same thing with the product.
That's a shame! Maybe I will check it out when it goes through their reformulation cycle.

I agree with Guerlain. I LOVE their Meteorites but it is the most disappointing reformulation. Once what I have is all gone that’s it, no more Meteriorites for me which is SO sad! The violet fragrance prior was strong but it was very pleasant and added to the joy of applying the product but now, we’re left with a headache inducing fragrance that lingers all day!

Great video -- it's always fun to learn about a creator! I'm with you on Guerlain. I have a collection of Rouge Gs that I've always treasured, but when they pulled that stunt of redoing them, that was it for me. I have many other Guerlain products I've enjoyed, but now, I refuse to use them. It just seems like I'm advertising for them by wearing their products. (Rereading that, I suppose it does sound pretty stupid. I've already paid for them, after all, and they're good quality. But the company just rubs me the wrong way now.)

I loved getting to know more about you. It makes so much sense you’re an educator! Even though I have 4 Singapura cats, I’ve always wanted a Shiba Inu, having heard they are cat like in their cleanliness and I also love their looks ( I also love Samoyeds). However, realistically a dog is not going to happen….We have a lot of the same favorites and often wear the same foundation shades - I wear B10 in CdP, but have never tried I10, which I assume is more neutral than B10?
They are definitely cat-like in some aspects! I also love huskies but my husband isn't as fond of their size so Sadie is a good compromise. Our previous shiba didn't really like him so it took a long time to convince him, lol. I10 is more neutral than B10 but it's getting harder to find recently. I'm hoping it's just a temporary delay with the shade.
@@LexiJong Huskies are gorgeous, too, but they are large for sure.. Recently, I’ve been seeing some pomskies, which are really cute. We once had a girl cat who didn’t like my husband, so now he only wants boys and they, fortunately all love him. Actually, they are total love bugs and follow us around like puppies - one of them plays fetch! Thanks for confirming that I10 is more neutral than B10. Hopefully, they’ll bring it back soon; maybe they’re just waiting for new formulas?

I had a bad reaction too and started having to use sensitive skin products… I love the HaruHaru Wonder oil cleanser you don’t have to double cleanse with it comes off clean and the sunscreen is my absolute favorite!!! In the yellow tube it’s a moisturizer sunscreen and primer in one for me… I’ve heard the mineral one is good too but I love the advanced filters in the yellow one haven’t found a better one in over a year … great to get to know you better!!! Even if the brand were to ship the products to me, the shipping price, plus additional duties and taxes, wold cost me as a one additional product . :/
I really think there are a ton of great skincare brands all over so I'm sure you can find something just as good where you live. I always focus on a good moisturizer and move on from there.

Thinking of now picking up the Sonia G Buffer pro to use with it (under foundation) - or do you have any better suggestions?
I think any kabuki brush works well also. I switch around depending on what needs to be washed. I use the Koyudo YOTD kabuki or the big Chanel kabuki that came out a year or two ago or the Sonia G Buffer pro. You could even use your foundation brush if you use a dense one and then go in with the foundation. I think I'll have to do that and I'm not sure why I didn't think of that before! Lol

Hi Lexi, I have quite many similar products that you would put in your shoebox: Lisa Eldridge skin tint, Sisley blur powder, just ordered the KGD powder, CDP cushion foundation, TF Rose highlighter and Suqqu moisture glaze lipsticks. I’m planning to get the Mineral Escape pallet from Fude Japan because Selfridge no longer carries it. You know that you are responsible for all of the above purchases, 😂, right?

If CDP are discontinuing the fluid foundation, I wonder what the replacement will be? I hope they don't do as Tom Ford did when they replaced the traceless soft matte (ie replace it with something utterly awful). I never buy from Charlotte Tilbury or Too Faced, because their products always disappoint me. I also don't buy from Chanticille or Westman Atelier because the quality does not justify the price
