- Portugal Series | Episode 1
It was early 2020 and we had just finished up an unbelievable itinerary to visit Portugal and Spain. We had Michelin Star Restaurants booked, beautiful hotels, and even Paella cooking classes. Then - Covid 19 wrecked our world as we knew it, especially for the international travelers. Since then, we've always talked about going to Lisbon. Finally, we've made it happen. This time with our almost 1 year old, Vivienne.
This will be the first episode in our Portugal Series. Lisbon is such an incredible place. As much as we researched it and watched countless CZcams vlogs, it still exceeded expectations. In this video, we find some local food treasures and see some unbelievable architecture along on the way. This video is much longer than our average travel vlogs, but there was no way to break it up in our eyes. Matt got sick our last full day in Lisbon and we did very little. It's unfortunate because we missed out on some big things that Lisbon has to offer, like Belem, the Castle, riding the 28 Tram, and so much more. (including other food we didn't get to try). Despite that setback, this was still an epic adventure through an amazing and historical city. We hope you enjoy the video. We have several more coming from our trip, and we can't wait to start working on the others right away.

About Us:
We have been married since 2009 and reside near Pittsburgh, PA. Even before we were married, we loved planning trips and traveling to cool destinations. It has now become our passion and we love diving into new foreign cultures, food, and attractions. We started making home DVDs for our own keepsake many years ago. It was a great way to preserve memories and re-live those moments whenever we wanted. We eventually found that uploading these videos to CZcams made a lot of sense. We could share them with family and friends across the country in real time, on smart TVs, Ipads, and smart phones. That eventually led to us creating the “Matt n Rach” CZcams Channel. Our focus now is not only to preserve our memories, but to include educational and useful information for our viewers as well.
In 2022 we had our daughter, Vivienne, who is now a big part of our traveling team. Traveling with a small child certainly has its challenges, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We hope you enjoy our content and please leave a comment if you liked our video or have some something you’d like to share. We love hearing from our viewers!!

Spent a few days in Lisbon before my trip out to the Azores. Went to quite a few of the places shown on this video. It's a HUGE city.
Yes it is. Thanks for tuning in!!

Hi Matt and Rach first off i hope you guys had a wonderful vacation in Portugal (my beautiful home country) second i have to give you guys sooo much credit for taking this trip with your baby girl (adorable btw and for the most part so well behaved!! She s sooo cute) . Hope everything worked out well for you guys on your travels there. All the best to all of you ❤️!! Blessings!! Really enjoyed your videos on Portugal 🇵🇹!!
Thank you so much Armando!! Really appreciate the kind words and thanks for tuning in!! We absolutely loved Portugal and can’t wait to go back at some point in the near future. It’s truly an amazing place for so many reasons!!
Great video 👍. Lived in Portugal 🇵🇹 for 16 years. There's a cultural divide between Super Bock and Sagres. Some towns you can't find one or the other.
Super Bock reminds me of drunken nights as a student, with piss and vomit on the dark side streets of Coimbra.
Sagres is more of a civilized libation, for adults and intellectuals, yelling at the TV screen on European nights of football ⚽.
Lisbon is one of the great capitals of the world, and still underrated, despite its newfound popularity with tourists.
Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦. Venha vinho.
Thanks for tuning in and breaking down the Portugal beer 🍺 scene!! I liked both actually but if I had to pick one for me personally it would be Super Bock. Would love to live in Portugal someday…who knows. Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Welcome to portugal ,
Thank you!! We love Portugal!!
Enjoyed your video immensely. You made it simple and enjoyable, and my mouth was watering with those pastel da Nata. Going in July, will check out some of those places you ate out at. Thank you!
Thank you Lenny!! Glad you liked the video and thanks for tuning in! You’ll have a great time there, we certainly want to go back sometime soon.
Hello, thank you for your videos!
The majority of Portuguese pastries come from convents, ancient traditions, as well as pateis de nata.
Thanks for tuning in!! The pastries in Portugal are some of the best in the entire world.
I was told before I went the servers at restaurants don’t come to your table after you’re served because they let you enjoy your meal…but you need to call them if you want something else
2 beers 2 wine and water $11 euros USA can also price it like that too if you want $650 Euros a month pay check
Hi Matt n Rach, thank you for sharing with us your wonderful experience!! Can you direct me where I can download the city map? I cannot seem to find it. Thank you lots. Kiss to your baby🤩
Hi Lola…thanks for watching and we appreciate the kind words. As far as the city map goes, I just printed out one from a Google image search. I then did research on what places I wanted to go to and manually marked them in the map. I’m sure there is an app you can find as well. But ours was just printed out.
Thank you so much@@mattnrach2016 . I just followed you..Safe travels!!!!
Can I politely say Pastel de Nata is pronounced with a T not a D. Many non Portuguese say Nada which literally means nothing. In case people go there
❤
I'm going to guess that Matt is a Sagittarius and Rach is a Pisces.
someone should told them that pastel de bacalhau has egg on the recipe!
How did you print out the map?
Just found a street map on google images, printed it out, then I marked all the spots I wanted to go.
Fresh potatoe fries
25:53 - Do you know why they're good? It's because they only have 3 ingredients: potatoes, oil and salt. That's all. You don't need 50 ingredients to make "french" fries like in the US.
40:00 - You say you don't speak Portuguese but somehow you knew that men say "obrigado" and women say "obrigada". 🙂

I disagree. Lisbon is a great city. Maybe it’s not for everyone but it’s definitely a place for us.
