Is a decent enough interview/behind-the-scenes/clips-from-the-film piece that examines the process of bringing the film to the screen. Topics include the ideas and themes behind the script, the challenge of finding a studio willing to back the script, the choice of Sam Mendes as director and the qualities be brought to the picture, the assemblage of the cast and the bond formed between them, the way the film captures the oddity of life, and the work of Cinematographer Conrad Hall and Composer Thomas Newman.
I think you have to be highly sensitive to understand and enjoy this movie. Just watched it and cried my eyes out, this is art❤️✨

The casting of this film was absolute perfection. Lots of oscars were given out, but I feel like Wes Bentley (Ricky) should have won one. I literally bawled my eyes out in the scene where Ricky explains about the beauty of the plastic bag to Jane, then Jane takes his hand. Such a powerful moment in film!

@@mdp4022 Depth of it, emotion. Reality versus Imagination, encapsulated. If you're an emotional shitbag like me you pretty much get it. It's dark and yet light mixed.
F'ing masterpiece! American Beauty was the first DVD I ever bought (I pre-ordered it on Amazon way back in 2000...I still remember it was $14.99 and I thought it was such a deal! If only I'd bought some Amazon stock that same year). I've always been amazed by this movie's excellent character development. In the course of only two hours you really get to know the intricacies of the many varied characters' personalities. I've never seen another film do it so well. Chef's kiss!
amazing directing
My eyes were on Ricky..his beautiful face. I loved his weirdo character and found him riveting. Then you see what is going on in his homelife and how he subtly rebels by dealing drugs..such a different type of character but it worked in this film. I liked how he 'grew' on Jane, too.

I was only 11 but I was obsessed with the cover of the video tapes and I knew that that was the best moment in movie history. I havent seen many great movies since then. I often rewatch this movie, I have the DVD and CD and wish there was a book. I like Meet Joe Black too. If you havent seen it, spectacular music and setting!
Amazing film
Annette Benning was tremendous in this film, she invented the Karen. And she was stunning, I'd burn my name in her lawn. I know we canceled Spacey but it's kinda like listening to Thriller and just enjoying it for how awesome it is...

Excellent film, with dramatic edge showcasing flawed suburban family. I loved it because I can sympathize with Lester and the part of being in a coma…. Marriage on life support, etc
