Diana competed in two seasons of the TV contest.. This is one of the songs from the year before "Wicked Game".
This performance was at a local hall in her hometown. It was Diana's "farewell" concert; as she was moving to Moscow. She was fifteen years old.
She was early 15 yo on this video.
I would say she sang this song rather timidly here, you should see her original performance on the competition "you are super" you can find the video on youtube or you can hear her sing it at the age of 18 when her voice was a lot deeper you can find this on her own channel.
She did not speak English at the time but Diana always knows the meaning of the lyrics of the songs she sings and if she can not connect or she can not understand the song she does not sing it, she has refused songs before for these reasons, she came back to them when she was older though, a good example of that is the song "I will win you back", it was offered to her for the same vocal competition "You are super" but she could not understand the meaning of it so she passed it but she revisited it at the age of 19 for her participation on the "Masked singer" show and now it is one of her most popular songs, people ask from her to sing this all the time.

She originally sang this on Russian TV on a show that showcased orphans and disadvantaged children called You Are Super at the age of 14. I believe it was her second song after Dernière Danse (she ended up winning that project btw). Diana just turned 15 here from what I remember. Check out her cover of Take On Me from her apartment in Moscow she did during the pandemic lockdown and you can hear how clean her English is (she's a bit older than here in that one). Diana still does not speak conversational English but she's learning and I've heard her use phrases and a few random words here and there. To answer your question about does she know what she is singing? yes, she's had many interviews and always knows the lyrics and meanings of her songs.
As others have mentioned, she learnt this song for the TV show YouAreSuper when she was 14. She might be 15 in this performance. The sound quality on a lot of these random performances is not so good - the TV shows are great for better quality, but also you have to accept the judges buzzers on some of them. The other pay-off is that you'll often get a better feel for the energy she projects by watching her Tv performances - and this song is no exception. Diana knows the meaning of the lyrics. Someone mentioned Take On Me - the version she did at home has great sound quality. Also, for something completely different, watch What A Wonderful World which she did during lockdowns, too. Diana, unlike one popular singer on the Internet, does not use octaves of her voice in each of her performances. Singing to amaze the public is not her style! At this point in her career, Diana had to learn her songs in French, Spanish, Arabic, German and English phonetically. She has been studying English, but even now she does not feel comfortable speaking it.
Of course she always works with translations so as to be able to properly interpret the lyrics in performance.
She was 15 here.
She had given a much more theatrical and charismatic performance of the piece a few months earlier, when she was still only 14, on the TV talent contest "You are Super."
That earlier performance is the one that is renowned.
(This is the second time in a row - the first was "Rechenka" - that you have reacted to a performance by Diana that falls short of her gold-standard. All things considered, it is better to react to her best performance of a work.🙂)
Diana has never had a "manager." In effect, her mother (adoptive) plays that role. Because the song was originally chosen for "You are Super," no doubt the show's producers were influential in her choice of it. There were four performances in total on the show, and contestants had to exhibit variety.

To be fair Diana did not speak much English at this time.

@@user-tp2vn7yy3f If you read my comment that isn't in this exchange I clearly stated that Diana totally understands the content in all her songs. Her stage behavior also portays someone who understands what she is singing.
Two things- first, I am not a pensioner. Second- no, nobody assumes that- I was simply asking a question as I do not know if she spoke English at the time, and some artists (and actors) do indeed learn things phonetically. It was a legitimate question, and there is no reason to be rude, condescending, or insulting. Over the years I have met hundreds of people while traveling in Europe who do not speak English.
