  • This week's video is sponsored by TopTes TS-630 Wood Moisture Meter. It's been really helpful for me to check the logs in the cabin and knowing that they're all dry and in good condition. It's perfect for checking if you firewood is dry enough to use.

    I'm getting help from my friend Erik and My dad to build the subfloor and to insulate the floor. A lot of work but we're getting there, slowly but surely.

    The difference is going to be major, I like that you left the air gap above the ground. Love the added message and the newspaper.👍

    What a fantastic video this week Marcus!! I loved watching how all the sub flooring came together, the spreading of the insulation, the hiding of the newspaper and your note...what a great idea! Wonder how long into the future before they will be discovered. And I also love the view of the trees from above. Like looking at fractals.

    A big job done! No doubt it will make a huge difference in the comfort of the room. The average visitors will have no idea how much work and material it takes to do those improvememts in an old home like this. Kudos to your team.

    Dunno how warm this floor is going to be and how long it lasts, but one's for sure - mice will love it .. heck, they nest even in rockwool once they've got a chance to get in 😂

    Great progress. I love the messages to future renovators. I renovated a kitchen and found a wonderful and humorous note in the wall from a previous owner, so I added to that note and put it back.!

    Very interesting how to build an insulated floor!
    But it looked sooo cold, I had to go and put my warm wool jacket on. I am sitting in my well heated sitting room btw...😂😂😂

    Marcus, this was so much fun to watch and how beautiful is the Swedish winter?! Especially at the end with the sunset. I had to laugh (we) when you and your dad cracked a smile after trying to put the insulation into the barrel 😄
    We just smiled through the entire video!

    Great idea to leave some history for the next generations to find!
    Hopefully you will soon start to feel the benefit of all that insulation and you won’t all be working in such very cold conditions for very much longer!
    Nice to see family and friends are happy to share the workload with you. It will make the house more like a home knowing they have helped to make a difference and contributed towards the end makeover. Another great video❤

      The other side of the wood stove, which is the heating system, is bigger and can take bigger firewood so hopefully that's enough.

    Wow great job and that will help so much to keep the warmth in. Will the radiator system have to have anti-freeze in for when you are not there and its cold? Just wondering how you battle the low temperatures. Thanks Rob

    Do you not need to worry about the potential for little creatures making their way in from the outside? I imagined that you would have used spray foam for the very bottom of the floor - the rock wall area. Is that not typical?

    It must feel so good to be done with this part! I too have a 203 year old house and keeping the mice out is an "always" problem.. you may want to concrete point the stones in foundation under the floors here on out?? They can get in the smallest spaces..

    Marcus will you be doing this to all your ground floor rooms (taking out rocks, subflooring and insulation)?

    • @MarcusStorm
      @MarcusStorm  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yes that's the plan. Because the hallway was added later, there's no earth to dig out there but there are plenty of rocks! It'll definitely be the same in the living room.

      what about a moisture barrier?

  • @marialucini1683
    @marialucini1683 Před 6 měsíci

    Hi Marcus, I always follow your videos which I find extremely interesting. I'm renovating my house and I'm trying to understand how to do it well, also because the cost of the material is high, and I'm trying not to make mistakes in my choice. I have an attic that I would like to insulate the floor as you did, and the cellulose you used would be fine for me (also so as not to weigh down the floor which would act as a ceiling for the rooms below). I looked for the product...(I'm writing from Italy) but I see that it is only sold in Sweden. Sin! I will try to contact the I.Cell. company to understand how to do it...
    Thanks for the very useful advice and good work.

    There are couple of safety concerns. The use of the table saw with both hands pushing the panel through the blade and using no face mask while putting the insulation in the floor 😳

    Fint! En fråga, varför hade ni inte en hel bräda under varje bjälke, då hade ni inte behövt såga ut hålen i masoniten utan bara lagt ned den mellan i någorlunda fasta längder?

      Recycled paper treated with bor. Good insulating quality. We call it celluvilla in Finland.

    • @greybeard5774
      @greybeard5774 Před 6 měsíci +1

      We call these sheets Finnish cardboard. It's made of recycled wood pulp .. absorbs moisture, so it's definitely not the best material for subflooring, especially since there is no moisture barrier installed.

    • @MarcusStorm
      @MarcusStorm  Před 6 měsíci +3

      The insulation is what Leif said. The subfloor is masonite but it's made specifically for subfloors so it's coated with an oil to not absorb any moisture.
