I LOVE the camera angle at the top of the video. It's the guitar players actual view. Makes it so much easier to learn and follow along. I wish other song lesson videos would use this camera angle...
Thank you so much for the awesome words about me. You are great! Really good job. This is a really good video. There is one wrong note in the riff, though. Everyone plays it , so don't feel bad. Haha! I really enjoyed this video. You are a good teacher.
er.....which is the wrong note?? i must know!!!
It is so fucking awesome that Reb Beach comments on CZcams videos.
nightrain.....why the fucking need to use expletives , especially when saying something fucking good about someone? are you 12, or just find it difficult to fucking express yourself ? ( see what I did there?)
Ron Yeahright Also, not surprised to see that you're a racist Trump supporter. You're a real piece of fucking shit.
Ron Yeahright Looks like I hit a nerve, you racist piece of shit. Keep supporting the KKK. You still going to support Trump when he's carried out of the White House in handcuffs?
Also... I respect anyone who serves for our country, but if you want to go there, I made more money at the age of 23 then you will
ever make in your entire life.
Wow I gave Winger so much shit back in the day lol! But I can see now how talented they were even when they were young. Great lesson, glad to learn this.
ok
Hey Allen. I'm talking about the intro/chorus riff in E. You are playing that typical nine chord and hitting the F# on the B string, but I strech my pinky and play it on the g string. Then, I don't play the F# twice. I let go the second time and hit the E on the g string with my hand holding the straight e power chord. All the best!
Reb
oh.....that note.
Reb is the man. it was too bad beavis and butthead messed up Winger (or so goes the theory). Winger was one of those bands that actually had real talent. this riff alone is evidence. not many people can play this riff as clean as Reb did. I was so glad he joined whitesnake, one of the all time greats. saw them in sanfran in 2013.
Dude, you are bad ass. I am refreshed to see an instructor on CZcams who is actually on his game, and giving the guys accurate information!! I'm a long time guitar instructor myself, and you and I are brothers from the angle of "teach it correctly or get the hell off of CZcams". Thanks, you have my respect for your validity!!
Allen, you're the shit. This is one of my all-time favorite songs of the 80's, and the rhythm is deceptively tricky to pull off. I've never been able to play it correctly. But I will thanks to you.
People have never appreciated Winger's musicianship. Reb, Kip, Rod and Paul are wicked talents, and too many people get caught up on the image. Bands like Metallica that have dissed them couldn't play this to save their lives. Reb is one of the best guitarists on the planet.
lol that solo at the begining sounds so perfect...even the tone.
Great lesson. Winger was a great talented band
They still are. Check out their new album "Better Days Comin'."
3e3op88 cool
Reb is way under-rated. He even mentions in the vid that he put it out there because most people are playing it wrong. Took me a week just to get it right and I still mess it up from time to time. I'd much rather play it this way! Sounds great!
For us visual people, the fact that you have a camera facing upside down is GENIUS! Thank you!
Not that it matters, because it sounds great either way, but that first part of the riff is closer to how tab books had it back then than how Reb really plays it. The main difference being, Reb doesn't come down to the 9th fret of the G string after hitting the 10th fret of the B string. He actually continues to barre the 9th fret D and G strings with the ring finger, then presses down the 11th fret with his pinky for one of the notes.
I never understood the hatred of Winger. I think they were truly stabbed by Beavis & Butthead! Crazy, I know. This song and a couple others on their breakthrough album were so red hot, it was just incredible. Reb Beach was sooo good back then. He had done the fusion demos, and then he played this rythm riff and I was like "Good lord!".
Thanks! No, I played around with it but I have already attained my own technique where I hammer on notes without needing to pick/pluck them. I did show how he does it in the lesson though.
Man I love this era of music so much
Cool, Reb Beach is a riff Monster!!!
That view from the top of the fretboard is very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks for using your head and putting he guitar how we see it.that makes a world of difference
Yeah, he commented in this video you are watching here about it. I figured it all out by ear and the delay on the guitar made it tricky at times to be 100% confident in what I was hearing so I went with safe logical decisions about parts. I think I actually had it like he does before I went to this variation because I told myself... no way would someone play it this way LOL.
He was nice about it all and I am happy to have only one note wrong in this tough song LOL.
Incredible tutorial, from your camera angles to your descriptions. Thank you for posting.
The great Reb Beach ...
+Momo Bobo He's a great player. This lesson is Way off. Reb put up a yt video on how to play 17 because sites like this are butchering the song lol.
+MyworstEnemy where is it?
TheSaintberzerker
I guess he took it down. : (
+MyworstEnemy You think, this is butchered?? Oooook....riiiiiight.....
jonnyQuest
It is.
Ya man!!! One of the greatest riffs
5:46 Exactly. I, too, when I first learned to play this theme I played it was in such a way, but something clearly did not fit.Only later I realized that it should play in it so how you present.I believe this moment is the hardest to play, it is very uncomfortable and quickly put on it.Kind of seems to be simple but the devil is in the details. After that, amazing lesson, great clear lesson, thank you very much, greetings !
Thanks a lot for posting this video , this riff is so powerful and stylish , nobody do riff like this anymore , I have live with this song stuck in my mind since the 90s , good to
Have some advice on how to play it
This is not easy! But your technical expertise makes it looks like it is. Excellent explanations and play. I really want to say THANKS! Keep the good work!!!!
Man this guy is really good.
Reb one of the best in the business gr8 video bro.
Allen - thanks so much for mapping this out - much appreciated!
Sick video dude \m/
Thanks for helping out with the fretwork. The Songsterr tab is baaaad
Allen: When I first saw this video, I was stoked with the clarity of the video & sound, and of course really excited by your playing. And then when you stared talking, I was diggin this so hard! Your mannerisms and the way you talk to us is so refreshing and cool. You totally get it. It's supposed to be fun :) I'm subscribed, dude. And now I'm forced to rifle through your entire CZcams catalog :) Keep it up Allen - this is truly cool :)
czcams.com/users/allenvanwert
DAMN ALLEN! You ripped the hell out of it.
For an 80's hair metal song it's amazingly complicated :) Reb is quite the player. Always tough to pull those little quirks out of songs when you have delay . Still toying with my delay settings to match up Dig by Incubus !
don't say it's easy, it's not. But, it can be done with some work!
Thanks, great video
you kill it man!!!
Earned a new sub! Awesome lessons!
Great lesson Allen, and awesome attention to detail.
That solo at the start was sweet as fook :) cracking sound too
that was fucking awesome
Great playing brother
Good one like that song I'm fan of Winger
lol i love this guys attitude
You really nailed it dude.. really impressed of how clean your tapping is. Are you using double finger technique as reb beach does?
Excellent. More 80's!!!
I was always into heavier stuff (and still am) . Dark Angel, Slayer, Possessed, Vio-lence, Metallica, etc when this song came out. Such a bubblegum song. Never crossed my mind that it would have a fair degree of difficulty to play. Great riffing. Reminds me a little of Ratt style riffing. Ratt was my poser band I listened to back in the day. My girlfriend at the time loved them. So I kinda had to like em too. Lol. Plus it was a lot easier to get laid with Ratt than with Slayer. đ
And Warren is a pretty kickass guitarist. But this guitarist for Winger is beastly. Wished he wouldâve gone the Pantera route. But definitely got to acknowledge his skills. đ€đ»
SO detailed! Amazing tutorial, thank you sir!
GREAAAAAAAAT JOB my friend
The top view I can relate the best to . Thanks for that and your video .
Great tutorial...even Reb endorses it, cool!!!
SICK
Great lesson very well explained
Man, Allen your playing is right on the money and sound is Awesome. Thank you for the incredible lesson, hats off man!! What are you playing through if I might ask?
That is a cool riff. Thanks for posting.
btw nice work with the inverted vid. never tried learning this way on here.
again thanks
Very good lesson! But there is ONE little error / difference from the way Winger originally played this. But overall this is a solid lesson from a very competent teacher. Well done!!
(((P.S. in the main riff, in the E power chord position (7th fret) Reb reaches up with his pinky and frets the F# on the G-string at the 11th fret, whereas the guy teaching the video is playing the F# on the B-string at the 7th fret (in like, sort of an A-sus2 chord shape). I've watched Reb play this song in a ton of live videos and you can always see that pinky shooting out to grab that F#. I like Reb's way better because it makes the little F#-G#-E lick at the end so much easier. But they basically sound the same so its whatever makes you more comfy... also don't forget to put DELAY on your channel, its an 8th note delay with only 1 or 2 repeats at 20% or less original volume. Also with Reb Beach, you wanna turn the GAIN down and cut out some of the highs in the EQ... use a nice Marshall JCM stack setting and you are good to go!))
The notes are also wrong so it doesn't sound the same. On youtube just search "Reb Beach Seventeen soloed " Someone at Atlantic must have released the individual tracks. It's much easier to hear. The fourth, fifth and sixth notes aren't the same note in the main riff. It's not 3 F#'s in a row.
@@officialrebbeach9382 Yeah I don't play it that way either, I watched them play it live and figued it out based on hand movement,
Thanks for placing the neck the way weâd see it lol literally everyone has to do this asap
great tutorial
repost it with the riff in the correct position its a bit bad that reb beach has to comment on poor versions but its all a learning curve ;D
un freakin believable...great lesson
at 1:21 when you sing "da na dant dant da" ....the next two notes are F# and E, not F# F#
Reb
youre a guitar god, i learn from you this hard to cover solo of reb beach
WoW ... Nice job! Great Vids! Love Jamming withing you,THANKS
Awesome playing bro! What rig are you playing thru???
Thanks brother more than you know
That was AWESOME!
dude nice video setup, like the views of the neck.
What guitar for a beginner to use that is that is pretty good for playing songs like the one you playing from Winger. I bought a guitar today the Jackson guitar didn't like it taking it back to Guitar Center tommorow it was 179 dollars my Microkorg costed more than that 500 I like it but not good at playing it though had it at least 7 years I think.
Amazing lesson. Just wish you showed how you were playing the B string 7 to 9th fret on opening riff. I slowed it down and still have no clue . I have to literally lift all my fingers to do that hammer : pull and just is not working đ
Saw a video of this song live a while back but kip changed the lyrics to she's only thirty-nine.
Ur bad ass guitar player brother. Do u put ur own guitars together?
Super solo!
Damn man....nailed it.
Wow that guys got some chops...
you bloody well rock mate
You're doing the beginning part wrong reb uses his pinky on the 11th fret
Great Lesson!
Went on jam play can't find where you teach the whole song
Thanks bunches man!
I have to give winger credit. All top placed musicians who deserve much credit. The only band I ever heard sound better live would be Journey with Steve Perry.
great lesson, thanks!
originally, the song was called "Thirteen" but the record company said no.
Dude. Nice
i love that
allen.... hi robot. the circus bit... evil cool... tobor.. yahoo chat

Damn it gonna be worth it.
thanks dude
Great player! You're awesome dude. : )
where is the solo lesson?
AWESOME MAN!
it's incredible...all that intellectualizing, and it's still not right.
Almost sounds like a variation to VH's Panama!
Is this song's lesson still available on jamplay store? I can't see it on their website and i'm interested in the solo section.
Alan Canzian www.jamplay.com/guitar-lessons/songs/artist/160-winger/2069-4-seventeen
