There's some really good ilford inspires interviews with, Ray Barbee, Joe Brook and Jason Lee. That are really worth checking out :)
Yuph I watched the one with joe brook. Really good work.
Glenn Friedman's comment that good film for a photographer was the equivalent of a good brush for a painter reminded me of a popular adage off 1970s photo mags that "the difference between painters and (G.A.S. obsessed) photographers was that artists did not sit around for hours talking about different brands of paintbrush."
Completely agreed! That’s why I don’t care much to discuss what kinds of cameras we use and comparing them because to me that’s not the point of creating and discussing art. Thank you Walter!
Your vids are so refreshing, full of quality info and beautiful shots and sequences 👌
Thank you Adriana!
Official skate uniform - Check. Thoroughly entertaining and informative history of skate culture and photography - Check. Looking forward to the rest of the trilogy, T.
Cheers David!
As a person who lives photography and loves to surf; I really enjoyed this segment. I look forward to the next two!! Great job as always!
Sheree Mae Balangue thank you !
Dope vid, clicked on it as soon as I saw the thumbnail
Thank you Jayden. Appreciate it !
Ray Barbee episode brought me here. This is such a great series.
Thank you Gaston! Glad to know you’re enjoying ✌🏻
Your storytelling is marvellous. Great video!!
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
The skateboard has always been the anchor point of my art. It's really impressive how one culture can inspire so many mediums. I see this sport as a mentality and a lifestyle that has a lot of influence on many aspects of life. Never give up, get up and try again until you land your tricks. :)
That’s exactly my impression of it and I think when I recently did my video on Ray Barbee I realised that even more when I watched his interviews and was exposed to his philosophy. I’m not a skater but I appreciate the philosophy and culture :)
I couldn't stop watching the skateboard vhs tapes back in the days with all the fisheye look. baker 2g and flip sorry were my favorite movies. Arto saari in flip sorry became a photographer later on.
Fascinating video. looking forward to the next episode.
I discovered your channel a few weeks back via YT recommendations. I really enjoy your videos on film photography x cinema, I've never seen any other CZcamsrs (that I know of) doing such analyses. Like you, the Pentax K1000 is my ultimate go-to :) Keep on posting great content!
Thank you Tracy. We’re part of the Pentax gang ahah. Thank you for watching. Cheers
love this little history lesson! I watch a lot of photography channels and not many do videos like this so thank you!
You’re very welcome Eliana. Thank you for watching!
This was an awesome video. You offer such insight on all your videos. The production is over the top also. Well done and much appreciated.
Thank you Judith! Looking back I would improve this video here and there but I think it’s a good exercise and will keep producing more and trying to get better at it :)
Who'd have thought I'd have watched a video about skateboarding? However, I learned something and enjoyed it! I also smiled at your play on words: "...surf was in the base of the sport's first wave...". Nice.
ahahah I was expecting someone to catch my puns. Thank you for watching and supporting as always! stay tuned for more got loads coming on different subjects over the next months. :)
Great video. Looking towards the other two.
Souped for this video and all the skate history that’s mentioned ~
Awesome to learn a bit about this history that I know basically zero about. And your editing was on point as always!
Thank you Phil! ;)
Really great series!!!!!
Surf all summer, Skate all winter. Still have my skateboards been a while since those school days.
Really good video, looking forward to seeing the other episodes.
The 6 Million P Man thank you!
I love your videos! So glad i found your channel!
Thank you Robin :)
Didn't expect this but love it!
Hey great work! I've been a skateboarder for roughly 14 years now and I can tell you did your homework ahah! Loving this type of content!
Ahah thank you I have to say it was a lot of research. Respect for skate photography!
@@TatianaHopper It may be an odd question to do BUT are you for any chance from Portugal? Or have any Portuguese roots? Because you're accent sounds familiar to me ahah!! Cheers!
I love skateboarding and did it for years. Knees are giving me trouble now. Keep up the good work. Grant Brittain, Pete Thompson and Geoff Graham are great photographers. Jason Lee has two short films that are really cool - "The American Photo Road Trip" and "Sanderson to Bracketville."
Thank you Keith. Grant Brittain will be on the second episode. I’ll make sure to include more information on the others in the description. ✌🏻
the first few seconds of the video shows that you are getting comfortable in front of the camera ,that's nice to see ...another great video...
That’s very true. Thank you :)
this is cool and you are cool. enjoyed this episode thoroughly!
I can’t skate but I can nerd. So yeah I’m cool!
When I saw the title of the video I had to watch. Hearing that you have never skateboarded I was skeptical. I should have known you’d deliver as always. Nice work! (Coming from a skateboarder of 30 years) 😉
Damn. Thank you Hayes appreciate it. I swear I’ll grab a skateboard before the series ends!
First!
This video came out of left field but it's awesome as always!
I've spent the week playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 and watching Betty... So perfect timing 😂 I've never skated either but always have been fascinated by the culture
Me too it’s awesome!
Nice content. It's surprising because I was expecting some tips about composition, lens etc, but understanding the context its really more important to thing skate photography. Thanks.
Further episodes have some tips on that, there’s 3 episodes in total ;) thank you for watching!
Gorgeous!
I love how you basically never get dislikes. Only the people who love your videos are here.
I love your videos
I think that; if someone is interested in photography and wants to learn more and more about it, that person MUST watch your channel
Thank you Lucas !
Fantastic video
Thank you Parker !
You are great. Nice style and content.
Thank you!
Nice video. I'm really interested in fisheye lenses and they are well-suited for skating and maybe you'll talk about them in upcoming episodes. I just picked up a low-cost 3.5mm circular fisheye lens but haven't gone out yet to test it. If you haven't seen it, youtube has the complete surfing movie Pacific Vibrations (1970), directed and filmed by John Severson which is my favorite example of 60's golden colors and lens flares in a film.
Thank you! Will check on that film for sure. I talk about visual distortion very generally on episode two and mention a couple of wide angle and fish eye lenses some photographers used. Thank you for watching!
Awesome video! I'm so happy to see you tackling a beautiful subculture with wonderful sensitivity. I hope you're aware of @frenchfred on instagram. He has some astounding fine art photographs. There are also tons of other skaters who are amazing photographers, as I'm sure you're aware. I'm sure it has something to do with being on the lookout for skate spots, just like how photographers are on the lookout for photos. Both of them taking something normal and overlooked and put them in an artistic context. My favourites are Ed Templeton and Jerry Hsu (Nazi Gold).
Absolutely agree with you on that and "Taking something normal and overlooked and put them in artistic context". Thank you for sharing your opinion!
Wow u got me good.Fantastic thnx
Cheers for watching!
So cool. Love the skate topic as an amateur skater myself. Will Ray Barbee be part of the series? He inspired me a lot in photography and skateboarding.
Hey Markus. Thank you so much for watching. Appreciate it. Don’t think so. But I’m glad to see you’re also very inspired by skateboarding.
Way killer.
🤘👑
😍😍😍
Ken wins! haha. And this is an awesome series ... This is probably the root of my photography, though I kind of went in through a side door of it. Did I tell you I have all 5 (I think it was) Spike Jonze Girl Skatebaord decks? Ha.
That’s so cool Jamie. Thank you for supporting ✌🏻
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video :) looking forward for the next :)
Just a note: I'm not sure if it is up to you or not, but YT bombarded me with adds literary evey minute or so... And in 9 min vid it is probably too much :)
Thank you :)
I shoot skate with digital camera and analogue lens😁 for my #onecameraonelensoneyear project @xftales lens choice Konica hexanon 40mmF1.8
Calling @Matt Day
What cameras were they using
I mention that in this episode what camera Friedman was using and in the next episodes if I remember correctly I mentioned the cameras used by the many photographers I talked about.
that was 'Rad' man or maybe 'Gnarly' !?
Whats the song used in the video??
AlphaCole check the description
if you put the playback pseed to 1.5 the song even gets better
@@TatianaHopper even the first song???
AlphaCole ?
@@TatianaHopper Song starts at 1:10 do you know the name of it?
It should've been Karens and Darrens though:)
Thats a poser out fit dem shose not skate shose and suprem isnt rilly a skate brand more just hipe best over price crap. they do have a good team of skaters tho thatnks for tryen tho
I was tryen to joke about it... I did say I’m no skater so that makes me a poser hence the joke 😂
@@TatianaHopper just given u a hard time u do u just happy u appreciate the culture
diclexic schweb man absolutely I wish more people did and spread the vibe! Watched a video of Karen’s and skaters the other day not cool!
@@TatianaHopper ya karens succ but sumtimes its are folt to. to be honest we do fuck up a lot of people's property buy skating it so i get it. But its kinda of what makes street skateing cool a fun cat and mouse game it makes lading the trick all that more rewarding
diclexic schweb I totally get it! Maybe I’ll end up this series by grabbing a skateboard for the first time and facing a Karen or two 😂 all good thank you for watching though. Peace ✌🏻
