My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

For future reference, next time, curve and join your darts together to create a princess seam! It will look neater and form to your body very nicely. Also some tips, lining a bodice is easy!, Same pattern pieces!. lay one finished bodice piece right side up, pin straps in, lay the other bodice piece right side down and you can sew along the top, edge and when flipped right side out, your top edge is finished and straps are attached with no outward stitching. Then to be fancy, press the seam allowance to the lining side and edge stitch close to the seam on the lining side, this will make the lining stay put and not flip out! Plus it hides and protects all the seams!!! Also, bias worked wonders as well to necklines! As well, Let your circle skirts hang at least 48 hours before hemming!!!! the bias edges of the skirt will relax and stretch out and you can trim it neatly and sew a hem!
These all are such good advice!
A true fairy comment
Please start a sewing channel!🙏🏾
Oh wow I didn't know my lazy habit of hanging a skirt out of the way to mentally prepare for the job that is sewing those long skirt seems was actually a good thing 😂🤯👍
To add to your advice. The felled seams are lovely but hand sewing is time consuming. If you'd like to speed things up and still keep the invisible stitch look, skirts with their long straight seams are a great place for a french seam which can be done 100% by machine.
Them: You'll have to pay 6,000$ to own this dress
Her: Hold my linen
Me: Now that's the kind of badass I want to achieve 👏🏻👏🏻
Buying clothes is just paying someone else for their expertise, skill, labour, equipment, and materials.
Making clothes just helps drive that point home.
As someone who makes clothes I can guarantee I’ve never spent 6000 dollars of my time making a dress
The blue flower is my favorite of all the appliques. I guess it does look slightly different, but in a very good way.
Mine too! Although I also really like the bird on the lower left (as I’m looking at it) of the bodice)!
@@sarahallegra6239 Yes, I like that one, too!
Blue floral and hummingbird are my favorites
I haven't seen anyone bring this up so I thought I would just pop in and say that Oscar de la Renta is a sustainable brand, they don't just slap a 6,000 dollar price tag on there for no reason. They use traditional construction techniques, so the seamstresses are not only paid appropriately for their work but for their expertise and training. It shows in even this dress that whoever made the original dress has an intimate knowledge of how naturally derived fabrics like linen work, but also how to work with the fabric and compliment the human form! It's a super cool brand to just like, look into despite its inaccessibility (I could never dream of affording their work), but essentially the price tag is not just because of it being a high fashion brand.
Now that I've said my piece, oml making your own clothing is so rewarding, and being able to actualize pieces that you really want that fit you well in a color you love is just chefs kiss! I love this so much
Thanks for sharing, it's great to see substainable pieces
I admire hard work but do you really think that price of this dress is 90% wages? Nope. It's about the marketing, shop's rent, advertisement. Many rediqulosly expensive brands use the immigrants to wark in not so good conditions in the EU to put a "right" label on it. It's all about profit not about fair paying.
I’m in LOVE with your music choice for this video. It’s so peaceful sounding.
Also, the dress turned out absolutely lovely!
I noticed the music as well. So very Loepsie.
Really wishing I knew how to sew! It looks like so much fun, and great for the environment to be able to replace old clothes 😊❤️
It can be frustrating hard work, but as with most things like this, the satisfaction of being able to say that you made something is so worth it in my opinion.
Just take take the plunge and choose a simple circle skirt and do it! Most people learn by doing don't start with something difficult with sleeves.
See if your local library or maker space offers lessons. They may also loan out machines!!
Just starting is the best way to learn. I was taught how to hand sew barbie dresses as a kid. I thought it helped me understand following instructions and how you can reuse old clothes. They can be use as patterns, fabric for new items, or a base to add on to.
Hmm.. Actually, it's not super great for the environment. Luckily not particularly bad either, I guess.. (I mean, you're still using the same amount of fabric as in a bought piece) Nevertheless: It is better from an ethical point of view, when you compare it to fast fashion and all its exploited, underpaid sewists.
Best option for both ethical and environmental reasons: thrifting. And you can also do awesome thrift flips (you can find excellent videos on that, here on yt).
i wanted to see the original up close, so i googled it. GOOD NEWS! its on sale half price. lol. you did a great job.
When I saw your dress I had an OMG moment! Around 1976 I made the most beautiful summer dress that looked so much like yours! It was soft cotton, though, with an all over print of large birds, butterflies and flowers on a cream background. It came from a McCall's pattern (I believe.) I did have a drapey ruffle at the bottom of mine ('cause, you know, the 70s.) It was my favorite ever summer dress! I also made a straight one (and no ruffle) out of soft blue and white stripes. Both were fabulous dresses! I wish I still had the great figure I used to have and could wear that dress again! Thanks for a wonderful memory and your dress is beautiful!
Well done! It turned out beautifully! I just ordered some linen when there was a good sale (about 30% off) and so I think I have a new project in mind for it! I may just hold off on the embroidery until we come back to Bangladesh though. The Silesian Sisters in Dhaka do amazing embroidery and it provides employment for at risk women. They get paid a fair wage, and I’m willing to pay a bit extra to have high caliber work done. And it will still cost a fraction of the $6,000 that would be completely out of my league! Thanks for providing such great inspiration!
hand embroidery has a look that just cannot be matched the look of machine embroidered appliques, although both are beautiful!
What a beautiful idea helping these ladies and a unique outfit!
Hi! I would love to know more about these Sisters, and was wondering if you had any key words I should search for? I tried Silesian Sisters Dhaka and only got results for Silesian Sisters in Texas and outside of South Asia. Let me know! I'm quite interested.
8:10 --> The rain sound was actually super appropriate, lol, it sounded like a drum roll. Heightened the drama! (:
Your dress is so beautiful! I like how the patches are concentrated around the waist. (:
Edit: On camera, the fit is GORGEOUS.
I love the dress! It turned out so nice. In regards to finishing your seams you may want to look into french seams. All raw edges concealed with none of the hand sewing
Yes! French seams are amazing for straight seams (tho its possible for curved and armhole seams) and they are strong since ita sewn "twice".
1000% agree! French seems are amazing and my favorite way to finish seams!
Came here to say the same. I would probably choose to hand fell for an unlined bodice, but unless you want the practice, or find it rewarding, it’s a huge and unnecessary commitment for a skirt.
I absolutely LOVE THIS DRESS. I would love to see when you finish adding the appliqués you’re planning to buy. I believe the dress, when you’re finished, will be every bit as lovely as the $6000 dress! I’m so impressed with your version of the dress! A++++
Oh, this is so lovely. Could you, please, make a part 2 when you get the new applications?
ni
I love the music your sewing videos has, is like watching an episode of Anne with an E ❤️
I love seeing your process - it's really inspiring, and you have tempted me out of my knitting bubble and back into a sewing one. Little top tip from my Mum - Iron fabric before you cut out your pattern, then you will be sure to get correct sizing xx
I just love that people are sewing for themselves now. I started sewing when I was 11, and it's a great and economical hobby. It's also a great outlet for creativity. Sewing your own clothing helps the enviroment, and is better than having an underpaid woman or child overseas sew your clothing.
Perfect way to use old sheets and to take an inspiration and work it. Yay! Beautiful handwork and finishing. Love the whole project. I just had to share it with the people I know.
The cut of your dress is so much prettier than the Oscar de la Renta! Amazing what you were able to achieve ! Bravo :)
I love this so much!! This is like those "I remade a 6000$ dress for pennies" kind of thing and it wouldnt even be clickbait because it looks just as nice ;u;
It’s still clickbait if the title is an attention-getter. But not all clickbait is bad, I’d love to see this channel grow (:
I wish that I have the patience and talent for sewing 😢 I've been sewing some face masks on my tiny sewing machine and I have a whole new respect for people who enjoy it and actually good at it
Keep practicing, change out your needle anytime your stitch length gets erratic, the stitches are pulling to the side, the thread is frequently breaking etc. Masks with pleats are especially hard on needles and changing out your needles is the easiest and cheapest way to produce good work with less frustration to you.
Lynn • I think it’s mostly the fiddling and puzzling that you have to enjoy and have the patience for
I am so bad at sewing 😭. I really want to be good but I loose patience because I keep making silly mistakes
@@lynn858 바늘이 살짝 휘어 그러니 바꿔 주는 것이 정답!!
I absolutely love the back! The cut of the back is gorgeous on you and your choice in placement of the appliqué also really highlighted that. Bravo!
Oh god I love you. Subscribed within the first fifteen seconds
Your works are simple , clear and perfect. Its beautiful .
I liked the look of your dress over the one that was your inspiration. I do understand wanting to add a little more to the other side, but it works regardless. I had not thought of doing applique on a dress. Your dress widened my view for new project ideas.
I love felling seams, it's so therapeutic 💕
I dare say, your version is much better. Well done!
Absolutely LOVE linen clothing!
Beautiful! I just inherited my friend’s old sewing machine since she got a new one, so I am excited to make some things. 😍
I actually really love the dress you are wearing in this video! The cut on the sleeves and collar is so polished and classy but looks comfortable.
Do french seams and you wont have to hand stitch them and you wont need an overlocker or anything!
Thank you. finally I can also sewing tutorial like this
Please more sewing videos like this! love this type of videos, and you're one of my favourite youtubers to watch - no matter the content (but this type especially)
It looks amazing! The process was really impressive.
OMG! Łucznik is a polish sewing machine!
UGHHHH I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Your commentary gives me life! also them bangs!! the haircut is amazing
I love it ! I’m just so happy that millenniums are sewing
Oh you should make a lovely jacket or something to put the bees on they look so cute, ok I can see them flying above the clover flowers as a trim & if you really wanted to, just one old fashioned looking beehive on the back.
I knew a girl who sewed a skirt with a bird building a nest of stiks on it in a really amazing pattern & colouring, it was mesmerizing, but it totally suited her style - everything she had was so individualistic & amazingly unique. Encore.
I am excited about this series
I'm in love with your dress, I admire your work, it's lovely and so detailed, admirable job❤
My gosh, that dress is so pretty. You are so talented, I don't even think I can cut the top part properly.
I really like watching you do stuff....it feels cozy and calm
Absolutely GORGEOUS!
I literally gasped when I saw the dress that you were sewing, because I have been in love with this dress! The only reason why I wanted to learn how to sew IS TO MAKE THIS DRESS.
Thank you for posting this! I had a bodice made up with a skirt that had no shape. I jumped right into making a 3/4 skirt after watching this and it is looking so much better now!
What a neat idea!! I can't wait to see it once you have added more of the patches. Great summer fun!
I love how you can make those things!
This came out so good! I also love making my own clothes inspired by designs I see, both modern and vintage styles!
I love your dress so much more. It’s amazing !!!
Love these sewing videos, Lucy 😭💗 I feel like if I learned how to sew I could create the literal wardrobe of my dreams
These videos of you creating dresses and garments are getting better and better, nice work!!
Love it, and your video inspired me to finish my first ever dress sewing project. I think your flowers and insects all look great
It’s so beautiful and flowy!! I think this turned out incredibly well, good for you for saving $6000!!! That’s an INSANE amount of money for one simple dress 😆 I feel so inspired by watching you create, I want to go make this myself now! If I ever do, I’ll credit you 😊 Beautiful!!!
Absolutely stunning dress.
Love how it flows!
I absolutely love these sewing videos, they inspire me to keep sewing (even though I'm not great at it, haha)! All of your projects have turned out beautifully!
I really love it when you sew!
Absolutely beautiful!
I love this, so pretty💖
Great post!
I love it and I love the way you create
Ok not to be dramatic but i would die for that blue plaid dress you’re wearing in this video omg
So lovely! Great job Lucy.
Omg the dress turned out so beautiful! If there are any other designer dresses that you want to recreate, please do! I'd love to see what other style dresses you like because your style is impeccable!
I love the applique and dress
I think the bird and blue flower were the most striking and visually stunning appliques.
I think you did a wonderful job! I am glad I found this.
The dress came out great ! If course I think more patches on the skirt will make it just perfect .
Hi from the US. I love the dress! It was quite an undertaking without a pattern. Looking forward to seeing more of your sewing videos.
Oh this is beautiful it's so flattering on you!
Omg! I've found you again! I watched your videos a few years back. And I've just started sewing. What a coinkydink.
Looks gorgeous!!
The length of your dress is beautiful! Lovely adaptation ❤
I love this dress!!!-
Wow, what a beautiful dress you’ve made 😍 gorgeous
Your dress turned out so pretty! I get impatient with my projects, too.
I love the dress. I think it looks good the way it is.
This looks wonderful.
Love the dress. I have made big appliques from magazine pictures traced on to fabric, then with interlining as backing I used the sewing machine to "draw the designs" finishing with a zig zag edge. Cutting around the edge of the design to release it from the applause fabric. This was a quick job.
Lisa Hodges this is a great idea to get that historical blackwork embroidery that several designers have used in their designs lately!
I love everything about this just watching you create your own little pattern was so relaxing and I loved the music and B roll too xx
Super cute dress! Great job!
The dress is so pretty! Well done💕
Thank you for sharing. This is exactly what I want to make but didn't know how to go about it and you've shown me how. I know what to do now. Thanks Lucy.
I love your dress and in spite of the little 'flaws' that you pointed out (which I barely noticed), I think the dress came out beautifully and I truly enjoyed watching your creative process. You are indeed an inspiration to those of us who are beginner sewers who don't want to spend thousands on a designer dress that can be recreated inexpensively.
I love what you did here!!! Now I want my own version 🥺🥺❤
Wow what dress is that expensive! And let's face it, if you did buy it, it would probably only be worn a few times to try to conserve it. Meanwhile I got a dress from Bonmarche which was £25 iirc and I've worn it a ton since I got it last year, and it's beautiful. Anyway, your dress is stunning, and is a fantastic fit on you.
Well yes, but also you'd b supporting fast fashion
@@isabellabornberg2153 hey. There is a very very large middle ground between fast fashion and a 6000 dollar dress. Since that's more than I make annually with my side job (I am a student) it's half my savings (accumulated over many years. I have relatively a lot compared to my peers) I'd rather not spend all I own on clothes. Let alone 2 pieces of clothing. I have an 80 euro dress I rarely wear (I am not a dress up type) not exactly fast fashion since it's a bit more timeless, until I get quite a bit older, cause length) I've got 50 euro sweaters. Not that price indicates fast fashion since one of those (I got it with a coupon for 30 tho) is literally from h&m.... all brands except for a very select few really high end brand use the same pathways. Fast fashion is just really wasteful, but if you use it a lot for 2 or 3 years, is it then really still "fast fashion." If it holds up that time. Which it typically doesn't. Imo that's a lot less wasteful.
@@jackih5502 i know 2-3 years isn't long. But a lot longer than the industry wants it to be. I don't have that many clothes either.
They'd also repair and patch stuff. But with current fabric that isn't really an option.
I also have quite a few things that are lasting me younger. Or will last me younger.
Problem also is that i bought some quite childish things as a younger teen. And well, gave em away.
I also ment if you use the item a lot. Not stockpile your closet.
It's sadly nearly impossible to get stuff that will last you decades. So better to thrift and just wear stuff till it wears out. Looking at the quality, but accepting it will not last forever. Which sucks. But if i don't buy clothes unless it's that, i wouldn't have like jeans. Or t shirts. Nor underwear or socks. I would have no clothes.
The fast fashion industry is bad. I know. But you just have to find stuff that will last you long. Because a bit more expensive stuff, yeah should stay nice longer, not a lifetime, and uses the same unethical pathways as other cheaper brands.
@@jackih5502 oh we do use stuff as rags. First a shirt typically becomes a sleep shirt or like if i need to paint walls that one gets sacrificied. Sometimes if quality is still acceptable we give it away or to a second hand charity shop thing.
The rags are typically old sheets though. And they are used by my dad who loves to work on his bicycle and his friends'.
Repairing often isn't possible. Because with shirths the fabric is simple too thin and my jeans just always wear away, too thin to repair at the seam in the crotch and thighs.
@@isabellabornberg2153 honestly, fancy designers might charge $1000 for dresses, but often they're just as bad about using sweatshops and refusing to pay workers a living wage, as anyone else, and don't necessarily care much about eco-friendly practices. And yes, they're slightly higher quality, so they last longer, but they equally promote buying new clothes every year and tossing the old ones.
Sometimes 'ew fast fashion' is kinda classist, when the real way to be sustainable is a lot more complicated than that.
Its Lovely...You did a brilliant job Lucy 🌺🦜🌹🌼🦋
That dress is so beautiful. You look gorgeous in it. 😍❤️❤️
that looks lovely!
Such a gorgoeus dress! My mum has made me a few in a similar pattern to what you're wearing as I can't get enough of them!
I like your dress more than the original one ! It feels younger and more fun ! I love it 💕
Omg it’s so beautiful and you did an amazing job! 🐝 💐
Only 8 seconds into the video and im already subscribed
You're so talented! Thank you for this!
This music was so perfect!! I also think the butterfly appliqué was perfect and other insects would be nice!
This is beautiful! You inspired me to sew something for myself !❤❤❤
Oh my gosh its gorgeous

That dress was really lovely 😍😍😍
Beautiful dress!
It's so pretty!!!
