    Tip for doing splits:
its always easy to give up once u start feeling the pain and soreness, so i recommend doing something else whilst you're stretching. Eg) whilst sitting in that position, do you homework, after one page, change your position and proceed. this way, you're not just looking at the timer being like OMG WHEN IS IT GONNA STOP HURTING AHHH. It also motivates you to do your work since your stopwatch is whenever you finish that page, so you're killing 2 birds w/ 1 stone by motivating urself to do both. You can also draw, play the piano etc. etc. whatever you like, just keep your mind distracted so you're not just sitting there thinking about how painful it is and when that 30 seconds is over.

Once you can get a split, if you want to go even father, bend forward at the hips (while in the split) and try to touch your nose to your knee. You can also bend backwards and/or bend your back leg until it hurts.

@Edina Paljevic, since she’s not responding, and I’m a dancer, here are some tips from me.
-train everyday, except maybe once possibly twice a week. But only after a while of practicing everyday.
-always warm up before practicing with lunges, squats, and simple stretches.
-always keep the leg in front straight. Always.
-it should always hurt. If not, you aren’t stretching.
-go as far as you can into your splits, hold it for one minute, do the other side.
-keep your hips facing forward always. Very necessary
      Hope this helps!

So my coach gave us (me and my best friend) a challenge to see who could get all of their splits down first. So we took on the challenge. We left gym that Sunday ready to come back in the Friday to see who was closest. Turns out because of the competition we both managed to get fully down in all splits and even do oversplits on our bad legs.

It comes easy to some people but to all the other people out there that think they could never do it: you can. It takes hard work and persistence and most importantly you need to believe in yourself. You’re never gonna be able to do it if you tell yourself you can’t.

I stretch after every workout (once a day) 6 days a week and have been doing so for months but those stretches weren’t deep as I didn’t care about flexibility as much as I did about my strength/coordination/endurance like my muscles in general. However I remember as a teen and I once trained for the splits as part of our roller skate show (after school) and it took me 3 weeks.
So now that I’ve seen sooo much progress in terms of like my body changing, growing muscle, it’s a whole new world of like body awareness and precision of movement even in every day life I LITERALLY stand tall feeling strong inside and out.
But since I stretch 10min a day 6-7 times a week anyway- why not go for it and do the 12mins Get Your Splits in 2 Weeks Routine and see what happens 🤷🏼‍♀️
Good video, keep up the good work 🙌🏻 (gosh how bloody British that sounded haha 😛)

Stretching is so much more than everyone thinks. People be like o the splits aren’t hard lots of people can do that, your not special. But I stretched every single day for almost a whole fricking year! So yeah me doing the splits is special and it was a lot of hard work and I’m really proud :)

This would have been more motivational if they had done 1 month or 2 months, not 2 weeks....Who really can safely get their body ready to do full, correct, healthy splits in that amount of time? And in jeans? You can force yourself to do lots of things, but you can permanently mess yourself up at the same time. Hope Buzzfeed offers good worker's compensation if this is the way their "challenges" are going to be going. I'm happy for their progress and the positive things they took from this assignment. Please take care of your body, you will have to live in it for the rest of your life.

some tips from a somewhat flexible person
-stretch everyday for 30 minutes and eventually you'll be able to do it
-those bands are not at all necessary and don't do anything really
    -I like psychetruth's 12 minute split tutorial
-then hold the splits 60-50-40-30-20-10 seconds
-the before and after was extremely fake. Different legs being stretched (everyone has a more flexible leg) and hips were not at all square. It's super easy to fake the splits
-if you stretch everyday it'll eventually happen

Push into the stretch as far as you can. If you feel pain, figure out if it’s good pain or bad pain. For me, personally, I push until Flexing and relaxing my muscles no longer relieves the pain.
As for warm ups, jumping jacks, energetic dancing, I like to do barre stuff to warm up, because I feel like that’s what is best for me.

To every grown up who dreams of getting their splits down: YOU CAN DO IT. No matter what people tell you. It will probably take you longer than a child but you’re still able to do it if you practice a few times a week.
I’m 19 and wanted to be able to do the splits literally my whole life. But from when I was about 14 people kept telling me “You’re too old you’re never gonna be *that* flexible (I didn’t wanna be a contortionist, it’s “just” the splits)” so I practiced every now and then but never really believed in me. A few months ago I began stretching 2-6 times a week and now I almost have my splits, it’s only like 1 1/2 more inches. I’m so proud of myself because I’ve always wanted to do it and now I can ☺️ Thanks to all those yogis I follow on Instagram because many of them started age 20 or more so that really motivated me :)

I’m a flexible 15 year old girl. But it is a difficult thing not something that can be learned in a day it took me a very long time. I’ve been dancing for 12 years so it is not easily accomplished. But anybody can do it if they really wanted to. I know a 13 year old boy who is way more flexible than I am. I think a lot of it has to to do with the age because the younger you are the more elasticity you have. Also some people are just more flexible. It’s not this superpower or anything. But I think people like showing it off because it is hard to do
