I love your shirts. I genuinely believe that if you changed the logo above the FINN to a bass’s Dorsal Fin…it would dramatically help your brand. I understand the difficulty, trust me, my company has a strange logo. But that’s just my two cents. Keep doing your thing Brother!!! Love your videos. I also love that you give yourself a goal and a “punishment’ if you’re not able to do it on your Lake Breakdowns. Been fishing for years and anything to amp up the pressure makes a huge difference

I don’t typically leave comments but I wanted to say thank you for the wealth of knowledge that you share on this channel. I’ve watched hours of your videos over the last month and it has changed my fishing game. Lines and knots were both weak spots in my fundamentals but not anymore (no pun intended). I tried the lower carrier braid on my spinning combo and it significantly improved the castability. I also noticed the smaller loop as the line leaves the spool. 8-carrier braid or higher works well for baitcasting reels but 6-carrier or lower works better for me on spinning reels. I really appreciate your unbiased approaches to the knot and line strength videos. For anyone that found this video helpful, you really should check out those videos as well. Thanks Tyler and continue producing the great content!

We're saving to get a couple of your Finn Fishing shirts a two of your amazing hats ,order coming soon ,Christmas was a little harder this year mostly because of 11 grand kids and 14 greats. I agree 100% with all you say
I use Only Power Pro braid in 10lb for some spinning applications and 30 or 45lb on my 8 of my dozen bait casting set ups
Tried other 8 starnd braided but had the problems you described
What simply amazes me is just how much farther I can cast 4 strand Power Pro vs and mono or fluorocarbon especially into a strong head wind
Once I mastered the simpler braid to fluorocarbon or mono line knots it using braided line made a big difference in my fishing ESPECIALLY fishing frogs and soft plastics in super heavy cover. My loosing fish in heavy cover went down over 95% after going to Power Pro braided line and I do a butt ton of fishing in heavy cover

I also learned reeling the braid from the top of your spool using a holder or pencil is really effective, theres an actual science to it its something to do with the way that it rotates off your spool it wont come off all curly and youll have superior castability, probably gained 2-3 feet of casting on UL with that trick which is alot for lighter lures.

I run braid to leader on everything except cranking. Suffix 832 8lb test on spinning rods and bfs. Never had a wind knot with it. But I think it is because I keep tension on the before bait hits the water, just like a bait caster. 30lb 832 for bait casting jigs, Texas rigs, etc. 4 carrier 50lb or 65lb for frogging to cut the pads. 65lb 8 carrier for punching.

I agree. I fish a weightless trick worm quite a bit on a spinning rod. I went through several brands of braided line and got very frustrated with wind knots. I finally went back to my old favorite, regular Power Pro 10 lb test and eliminated the wind knot issue plus it casts great.

After a lot of experimenting, braid to flouro is still the most effective for both spinning and casting setups for me. I use 10# braid to 20’ of 6-8# flouro on spinning gear and 20-30# braid to 6’ of 8-15# flouro on casting gear. Primarily fishing for Smallmouth in clear water. I haven’t found any benefit to using straight flouro on anything, just more expensive and more problems. I use the FG knot exclusively.

  • @zachs13
    @zachs13 Před 4 měsíci +2

You reminded me about line buoyancy... Its easy to take the industry conceptions at face value. I got curious once to see if fluorocarbon sinks like everyone said it did. Now theres a lot of variables, but most of the segments of line I checked actually floated. Tossed them in the water, floated. I figured that was just due to surface tension, so i forced them down under the water, just to watch them gradually make their way back to the surface. Again, lots of variables, but its good to verify things that are taken as truths.

somewhere in the 80's early nineties fishing info was mostly through reading fishing magazines & copolymer/monofilament was what everyone used. I still remember reading an article which discussed how the more limp the line the better for bait casters to help negate birds nests but some spring in the line was better for spinning reels to help the line pop over the lip of thespool (less friction) to increase distance, of course there are plenty of other factors that have been mentioned as well.

I 100% agree with you on light line braid on spinning rails. I consider myself spending real fanatic, as I own about 20 combos and I fish just about every finesse application going chasing big small mouth in the Northeast. I've tried all of the different manufacturers and brake counts and I keep coming back to 8 lb power pro as the most manageable and the longest casting braid for spinning reels. It's easier to manage. It's easier to tie knots. It's easier to cast and it's way more durable than light line, eight carrier braids and the same pound test. I also agree that as you go up in pound test, that the higher number carrier braids are easier to cash and actually more manageable on a spinning reel. I have a bunch of spinning reels that I throw heavier applications on loaded with 15 and 20 lb test braid in the eight carrier variety and they all cast way better and manage way easier on a spinning reel. So even though you don't have data to back up your claim, I can concur with your experience as my experience. And I've tried just about everything you could put on a spinning reel from 6 lb test all the way up to 30 lb test. Good video, thanks for posting and look forward to future content.

I have heard a lot of people using braid on cranking type baits. I get hesitant from using it bc i feel like it just wears on my guys especially the tip, etc, much more. Also ive learned over the years that you should use a lighter action rod if you use straight braid. Seems like setting the hook hard with braid on the normal action rods i would use with straight fluoro that I pop a lot more eyes off.
Now i typically lean away from all braid and strictly use fluoro unless I am flipping grass/heavy cover.

When using a smaller braid like 10lb, a spinning reel... which is only a 2lb diameter equivalent... of course, you'll get more wind knots... just use 20 lb braids, which can be a 6-8 lb equivalent. It will also synch/tie up better to your leader because you're using the same diameter lines. I have used 10, 15, and 20 lb Braid in 4 and 8 strand braids... there is literally no casting distance difference between 10 and 20 lb on 8 strand. There is a difference in casting distance difference between 10 and 20 lb on 4 strand, however. When using an 8 strand braid, dont buy any that is super soft for 3 reasons... wind knots, knots fraying easily, and tensile strength. Yes, there are 8 strand braids out there that feel like a 4 strand and still cast amazing with no to little wind knots... mostly coming from JDM brands like Sunline and Daiwa.

I’m the first to admit that I’m cheap. I use a Diawa Revo 3000 reel on a Diawa rod. I buy 15 pound 8 braid Reaction Tackle line. When I paired that up together I was shocked how far a could cast a 110 Choppo. That is the smoothest casting line and reel I have ever seen. I use it for top water and on short cast it’s accurate.

Super interesting theory regarding the 4 strand braids with spinning rods. I fish a lot of 8-12lb braid on spinning rods for river / creek smallies. I always use an 8 strand carrier. Now I’m gonna have to put this to the test in 24. Hoping to meet you in Colombus in 24 for the annual show. Happy holidays

Do you ever fish BFS with 10 lb 8 carrier and 4 carrier braid to have a opinion on which you like better? I’ll gladly take opinions from anyone who reads this and has experience with BFS. I’d love to see you test out Mono and Copoly lines like you did with flouros. A head to head battle between the best flouro and best Copoly would also be something to see. My money is on the Copoly as the winner.

High carrier /low carrier braid ????... very interesting, but you had me at "Power Pro". There are WAYYY too many fishing knots. It's very confusing for the weekend warrior. The one "do it all knot" is the "improved clinch knot". Yes, even with braid and other slippery lines. The trick is MORE WRAPS. If you wrap ANY slippery line ELEVEN times and lock it , the knot will never come undone. You only need two knots, a good loop knot and the IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT. PS...Nice shirts.

I personally think a lot of it is overrated. I've used a lot of lines out there and I have always found myself going back to copolymer line (specifically izorline and Trilene sensation) I just feel like it checks all the boxes, it's not the best at anything but good at everything. I have copolymer on all my set ups now except for those with braid. For braid, I prefer the lower count braids, they just seem to work better, and I have noticed, they don't dig in on themselves nearly as much. Cool video man.

Throwing 20 pound Fitzgerald braid on everything . Drop shot straight braid big hook no leader no problems even in clear water get just as many bites they are not looking at the line. All smallmouth stuff straight braid super clear water. My smallmouth guide uses straight braid too even on cranking no problems hammering big ones. The only thing I use clear line on is my cranking stuff. Fish alot of clear water and stained stuff here in Virginia that's my take go braid or go home. Late.
