    Definitely design (how to create flow and destination and a 3D render). Second would be big picture, we know we have that for budget and e have to do phases. What makes sense in phase one vs phase 2 and how do you prevent a choppy at completion.

    This series is perfectly timed. I found your channel looking for inspiration for outdoor kitchens but now I'm looking for backyard living. We already have a aprox. 1000 sqft. granite paver hard surface with a shade sail, BBQ and another 2000 sqft. lawn including play structure and trampoline for the kids. But it doesn't pull you out. We have a giant walnut tree reaching over our property covering almost 60% of our lawn area. This tree is curse and blessing providing shadow and atmosphere but also making dirty in fall and limiting the usability (No pool/pond/fire feature) of the covered space. How could such an area be incorporated in a backyard design?
    In another video you said: Find dead spaces and make it to a destination. That was a great tip.
    100sqft of our hard surface were originally designed as a sun deck. But it's getting way to hot to enjoy this area in real life. I think this area can be converted to a fire pit area wich will be used mostly at night.
    Greetings from Germany!

    My challenge is how to best utilize a long, narrow space to create flow and fit in all the areas we want (hot tub, fire pit, out door kitchen and eating area, etc.). And, how to get create with creating some privacy from the neighbors houses around ours.

    Living in Chicago (suburb) made it a tough decision if investing money in an outdoor living space would be a smart thing to do. So I finally came up with my own design starting with the front landscape, hardscape product, color scheme, and a few sketches for the backyard layout. Believe it or not that was the easy part. The hard part became finding a contractor that replies back, doesn’t take months to provide an estimate, or will actually bring my design to life and not try talking me into just doing 20x20 slab. This has been going on since Jan/Feb and I’m starting to think about investing the money elsewhere in the home. I’ve been in sales most of my life and I’m starting to think I’m the customer no one wants to deal with 😂. I refuse to settle and hire a contractor still using out of date techniques, but also I’ve done tons of research and I know what I’m asking for isn’t a $70K project either.

    My issue is having trouble to find someone to show me a visual before I start...Flow, & placement for a huge backyard at least 1/2 acre. Which project should we start first or is it wise to do it all? Is the look I'm looking for is it the right style..trouble issue we have a easement that covers part of the yard..I'm drowning but still doing homework..its just the unsureness is heavy..I just don't want to be taking advantage of due to inflation..thanks for putting out videos its really helping with my homework

    I put in a fiberglass pool this year on the side yard. I have to complete the pavers because they want a lot to do it. I want to add a larger covered patio in the back sign a putting green between the patio and pool. Cost is always the biggest fear to do it and how much it would cost to design! Here it’s cold n windy alot with a great summer but very short time.

    I love the ideas of destinations. I’ve made a cover structure
    Wanting to add a fire pit area with seating but the only area I have (very small back yard) is this 12x14 area right next to my back neighbor and they have very big aggressive dogs that bark a lot (especially if our little dog is out with us.) I’m worried about scaring guest putting seating there
    Also I don’t have natural gas and want to have a propane option but would like to have the tank off to the side instead under the pit (reduce the height) options ?

      Great comment. Any chance u can crest a privacy screen between u and your neighbor? Also maybe a waterfeature as that will drown out some of the noise between the spaces.

    We have a new construction home with a backyard that is a hill so it would require retaining walls. That is a bit overwhelming to me (cost and less DIY). We also have an 8’ county easement running along the entire back adjacent to our deck. We also have wetlands adjacent to our property line.

    I'm looking for outdoor living space in FL, right now we have a 20 x 16 slab out side of our screened lanai. I would love, a dining area, grilling area, living area, fire pit/place . There is a dry pond behind our home so we have space between rear neighbors. I'm thinking screened in area with also a clear cover so we can be outside and not get wet. I need help!

    Hi Micah. Placement, size and weather. I live in a suburban subdivision of Chicago and literally have from mid June until maybe mid October to enjoy our 1/4 acre rectangle backyard with neighbors surrounding and looking down on us. We have a 600sf two tier cedar deck unattached and 12x16 concrete patio. Deck and patio is length/width of the house and deck is off dining room. If money was no object, I would hire you vs diy.

    Do your designs include an engineering design if you have a slope and pool? At what point should I get permits?

    • @BackyardDesignGuy
      @BackyardDesignGuy  Před rokem

      We design in 3d so you or a contractor can see how everything looks finished. You will need to hire a local engineer for anything that requires engineering or permitting. The permits should come after the design is complete and the engineering…. If u are working with a contractor consider using him to procure the permits
