  • Here is another kit I picked up and I open it in real time so I am just as surprised as you if there will be any issues with this kit or to see what goodies are included in the kit.
    Enjoy
    Thanks for watching.

This one is a great kit from the original AMT back in the early / mid 1960s. Similar to their excellent 56 Ford Vicky, 57 Ford Fairlane, 49 Mercury and Ford- all these kits had detailed chassis and interiors compared to the annual kits, with opening doors, trunks, steerable wheels, etc.

My Dad's first car was a '57 Bel-Air. Some years later, the starter broke, and he'd have Mom in the car while he push started it with his tractor! 😅
Then the back window shattered due to the Florida heat causing too much pressure inside. He finally sold it and got Mom a '63 Olds Holiday 88. 😊

That kit came out earlier than that. I remember helping my older brother finishing it, back in the early seventies. He went on to play football, and I’m still working on models.

I had the same AMT kit in the mid seventies. The box may have had different illustrations, but it was the same kit. I think this one in the video is a re-pop.
I also had a 1959 El Camino and 1964 Impala kits from AMT. All three had the W-motor. The El Camino was my favorite model.

On the left were some kind of custom wheel covers, on the right were the factory standard Impala wheel covers. SS did not exist until 1961.
The little metal clips were for keeping the hood open and closed, also the doors. That was one of the neatest details of AMT kits.
That kit sure has a LOT more flashing than the one I put together in the seventies.

I’m really enjoying your videos! You’ve been sharing videos of models that I loved building as a kid, and introduced me to more models that I wanna build! Keep up the good work! 👍

      Thank you
      I appreciate that 👍
Just trying to share my passion for the hobby. I also have been building them since the early 70’s.
It’s something that brings complete comfort to me for sure. Like I always say “keep on modeling” 😊

This kit seems to be very detailed and has many good parts like separate exhausts etc to be labelled as a skill Level 2. It is more more like a 4. Niiiiiiice!

I think the mystery part was a dashboard for the custom version.

4:44 looks like a roof scoop, they were a Kustom trend in the late 50's. Its hard to believe, but this is an old SMP tool from '58.

I don't think this was tooled in '58, model cars were way Bruder back then, no engines or opening features etc.

      That's " way cruder", not 'Bruder'..sheez

@@thomasboogie734 I dunno, Scalemates shows it as a new SMP tool for '58.
AMT absorbed SMP in 1961. The '64 AMT box shows the opening doors.

    • @thomasboogie734
      @thomasboogie734 Před 4 měsíci

The SMP '58 Chev may have been an early " annual" kit. This model was tooled by AMT around 1963- except for the Revell/ AMT " Highway Pioneers" series, in 1/32 scale no less, most kits tooled before '60- 61 were
      " curbside" types without engines.....
