    We courted high in the Smokys in the early 60s. She was a native of those mountains and I an outlander to her. When we met out eyes locked. Our future was decided for the next 60 plus years with that first glance. Then she passed leaving a business she created, her writings, two daughters, 4 grandchildren, a national audience and one husband. She was a grand person. A very talented graduate of a tiny k-12 which was owned by a small college where she graduated with a high school degree, her BA from the college and her MA all on that small campus.
    Fantastic video, thanks.

    Excellent job on uncluttered history and park info! We drove through the park several years ago, but unfortunately did not have time to explore. Time to go back!

    This video is so well done I feel like going back. That being said, once in my life was enough. I went during the week in August. Scenic drive in from North Carolina but Indian Casino and tourist stuff starts popping up the closer you get. Klingmans Dome was crowded and not that impressive. Fog/Smog doesn't lift and clear views are rare. There aren't short hikes with great views against a clear blue sky like out west. The parkway is nice and winds up and down through trees. Motorcycles and cars and people at every stop making it impossible to take your time and relax. Then out of the park into Gatlinburg and bumper to bumper traffic for 25 miles to get to the freeway. Whole way cheap hotels, souvenir shops, Dollywood, Elvis museum, Mini golf, Go Kart, Coney Island Boardwalk tacky strip mall crowded nightmare.

    Thank you for you hard work on your videos as well as in the parks. I'm so sorry for what you're going through and I hope this all changes very soon. Consider me subscribed- your glimpse of the Smokies has me excited to visit and explore. You have a lovely, professional yet personable speaking voice and I think you'll go far on here! OK end creepy compliment :)

    Nice video. The only thing that I might say is that for locals the word Appalachian is pronounced with "latch" in the middle instead of "laysh". Ap-pa-latch-an instead of Ap-pa-laysh-an...LOL

  • @BradHebert
    @BradHebert Před 3 lety +1

    In TN/NC, it's pronounced "App-ah-LATCH-un"

      I'm from Pennsylvania and I've pronounced it my way all my life. We share this mountain range and I'm fine with not regionalizing it during videos where I provide the narration.

    thank you, love the park. i think you said the clingmans dome paved trail is 1 mile...wikipedia says 1/2 mile: A half-mile (800 m) paved trail leads from the parking lot to the 45-foot (14 m) observation tower at the top of the mountain.

      I grew up and still live in the Smokies of NC...never spotted a Bigfoot lol but as far as a wild man yes I have had an experience of that! My father was out hunting back in the 70s and stumbled across a bearded wild man he had a little shack with no running water or electricity and didn’t speak well...he was as scared of my Dad as Dad was of him...but over time my Dad realized he probably hadn’t had much outside contact...over the years Dad would leave canned goods, breads and fresh produce outside his shack...he said he could always feel he was being watched but never saw him again. Each time he returned to bring something what he had left before would be gone and the empty jars left sitting by the shack. 💖

    The people are loving this National Park to death. I hate the traffic jams and really hate what Pigeon Forge has become, avoid it like the plague. Going to skip Easter trip this year after 2018 crowd, most of the family stay in Gatlinburg on the strip, I prefer up in the mountains away from that. Mount Leconte trail is a welcome respite from crowds.
