Noisey Acoustics - Veruca Salt

- This year saw the triumphant return of Veruca Salt when they dropped their first album since Louise Post and Nina Gordon reunited in 2014. 'Ghost Notes' is a brilliant reminder of what made the quartet so damn brilliant in the 90s: these ladies know how to marry scuzzy guitars, killer riffs, and memorable harmonies that'll make your scalp tighten with pleasure. They really can wail on their guitars. But on this episode of Noisey Acoustics we made them unplug and head to the very top of the Standard Hotel in the East Village to perform their career-making classic "Seether," along with new tune "The Museum of Broken Relationships"-which was inspired by an actual museum full of donated ephemera from the remains of many, many affairs.

I wanna be 50 years old and look as hot as Louise 😱
this band should win three awards........
1) best band name ever
2) 'eight arms to hold you', with a very regal looking octopus on the cover.... best album title
3) most underrated bands..ever
“Eight Arms to Hold You” was also the working title for the Beatles film “Help!”
One more best--best EP name for Blow It out Your Ass, It's Veruca Salt
Nina and Louise, thanks for the memories. “American thighs” is a kick-ass album! It remains a constant on my playlist.
They’re all good
the lead solo in Seether is one of the most unique and cool guitar solos ever.
Agreed. I've always wondered if Louise was pissed that in the original video you don't get to see her playing a single note of it.
I've always thought Louise was a very underrated solo writer. The end of Shutterbug is the first solo I remember learning to play from memory as a kid because it's such an earworm I had been humming it.
@@epiglottisdynasty number one blind solo is badass and catchy too and I dont think most people realize that NOB changes key back and forth thruout the song, wild songwriting.
Like a fine wine!
Hi girls. I always loved Veruca Salt because they are a perfect mix of strong melodies and hard rock. Plus I knew where the name came from without looking it up!
"Ghost Notes" was such an incredible album. So fucking sad I missed them on that tour because I was off riding motorcycles with my now ex. The "Museum of Broken Relationships" indeed. I fucking love how from 4:45 to 5:50 it's just nothing but pure awesomeness in their voices.
My favorite band ever!
WOW,,, so loved Veruca salt. I was working at our price records when indie / grunge hit,,, what a great time to be working in a record store. Louise,,,,,, my knees have turned to jelly,,, as gorgeous in the 90s,, and now. X,.
I'm still in love with Louise.
You guys are so natural- never lose that. We love everything great and flawed about you- you could be family- yet you are rockstars.
Love these two!
I LOVE them! I hope they can find success in the music business again.
Such an underrated talented band.
I love Louise and Nina 💓💓
SO COOL!!! A great birthday present for me!!!!
I had a crush on nina 26+ years ago and I still do..
Wonderful.... Their warmth and humility and humor... Mixed with wonderful talent. ooooh yea!
JUBILATION I LOVE VERUCA SALT AGAIN!
Still.
They still got it!
This is just amazing
This is what singing sounds like without auto tune. Amazing!
if autotune is used in the way it was designed for, no one can tell it was used, what you hear on current horrible songs is it turned all the way up for an effect on purpose. Everyone in every genre uses autotune and has for yrs, no one wants to risk being out of key. Veruca Salt is perfectly on key here so it would sound the same thru autotune as it does here.
Nina Great Talent and Louise.👏👏👏
I love them so much!
They’re unbelievable.
Raw energy, truly amazing
Oh! THAT'S how that solo is played! Brilliant
More talent than most artists today....sadly.
That's why their reunion HAD to happen. I think I would've had a musical nervous breakdown if "hatchets buried, axes exhumed" was never posted (when they shared their reunion with the world), there'd be nothing to listen to.
Good band.
Cool sounding albums.
jumping up an down right now!! great tune!!
love them both ...great band.
Oh, Veruca Salt. Look at those girls, sliding up and down on major barre chords. You watch a band like Muse (say) perform live and then watch Veruca Salt doing it and it's - it's a world away. Veruca Salt make mistakes, lose time, and generally sound like a high school band. And yet. AND YET. I LOVE THIS BAND. They might not be the most proficient musicians, and they might well be derivative but I listen to Veruca Salt way more than any other group. Under all the fluffed notes and posturing there's a core of solid songwriting skill that shines though and makes me put their albums on repeat. Long live Veruca Salt, may you always be my guilty musical joy.
Could not have worded it better.
This was them stopping off in NYC for Noisey and doing a drive-by acoustic performance. The electric shows were "proficient" I assure you. Especially the Brooklyn show. There were even inverted chords involved. Jesus
@@tita4ewaz Right, their songs are very complex, so dum that people think bar chords somehow diminish...Seether is one of the best songs ever written, I play it all the time on electric and always think how could she have come up with this, writing a great song is a MIRACLE, doesnt matter what type chords used.
@@joejones9520 YES! VS brought the rock via AC/DC but with the chord prog trickery. The album title is the riddle folks. Also, the guitar tones are to be marveled.
The humble nature of the this band is what makes them lengendary. They where never going to wow anybody with technique and skill. But sometimes, there are certain artists that were just meant to play together. I would put Nina and Louise in this category. The chemistry was and still is something to behold. Their chemistry turned ordinary musicians into superstars. The writings, compositions, song structures, lyrics, guitar riffs, etc.. Everything gelled together like magic. Veruca Salt, one of the true gems of the 90's.
Hot as '97.
Great performance and nice skyline!
Totally fan of this band. For ever. 💗
Oh she may not look like other girls,But she's a snarl tooth seether. Seether!
survivors from the old grunge times from the 90's. still love the band, they have not missed their touch in all these years.
still love this....years on ❤🎯
I sing this song to myself alllllllllll the time. For the life of me , I could not remember who did this. Now I will remember forever! go bucks
It's like they are about to fall apart at any moment. the suspense builds.....
But those melodies.... Yes ladies....
You two haven't aged a day. Still beautiful as ever!
I like that edge in Nina's voice
I love you guys!

Chicas mágicas de los 90s!
Super nice
Great song but "Wolf" still makes me cry every time I hear it... and I don't know why?
Bravíssimo... Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️...
Man, old post. Glad to see this, tho. 2 gals that that hooked me 30 years ago. Great song hooks and guitar playing. I always loved the riffing since it fits with my likes. I loved the lead guitar since it reminds me of my guitar ancestory tree. Ritchie Blackmore in our influences. For me Mick Mars.
Woah
Ol skool. Rite on
Fuck I love these two.....love the 2.20 moment with wrong chord hahahah you girls rock
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏... 😊
It's SO good to hear ACTUAL singing, not auto tune. Amazing! These two rock so hard!

Wow, I thought the Glastonbury 95 version was awesome. This is just as awesome. The only version I don't care for is the studio.
what a ridiculous opinion.
@@joejones9520 no, what's ridiculous here is your compulsion to even make that comment. The fact you couldn't just let it go. You just had to be rude to someone you don't know. The internet could be a wonderful place if it wasn't for the low class people like yourself making it such a toxic environment. Grow the F up.
nice greenscreen Kappa
Too bad they weren't mic'd 😁
Go away
feminist rock.
Lame.
Man, these ladies had twenty years to learn how to play guitar and they're still writing songs with nothing but power chords. Not impressed yet not surprised.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Power chords would actually be easier, those are all barre chords. I personally like playing diads, triads, drop D, double drop D, and an array of more intricate movable chords inspired by Monte Montgomery and more Al Dimeola. But, that being said... countless fortunes and 10, 20, 30, 40+ year careers have been forged with the almighty power chord, Veruca Salt included. Nothing wrong with branching out away from power chords especially with the influences I have, but know it will be much more challenging and if you're like me and go on hiatus, impossible to remember the fucking music to all those songs you wrote! Wishing now I'd written even a few with those "Everlong-simple" power chords.
You guys are a bunch of music snob clowns.....
You're kidding me, right?
Peddling a half wit , predictable, lame 90's forgetful "band" like Veruca Salt ?
ummm,..... who is it that produces these NOISEY videos ....?
some 35 year old wanna be hipster , nostalgic for the abysmal 90's music "scene" ...?
I laugh a cold, ironic , sad laugh on an early, insomnia induced Sunday morning......
life will get better...... life will get better........life will get better.....I'm not bitter.....I'm not bitter.......?

Renan - you need to learn English and Grammar , for one. Secondly, 90's music - for the most part - SUCKS ASS. Seether was one of the worst bands ever promoted as "music"! The music of the 60's was miles away better than ANYTHING from the 90's.
Now run along and go listen to your Seether, and go get your fucking shinebox while you're at it....
Renan xxx0xxx
Oh please - what? Was 90's music the music you grew up on? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're probably mid/late 20's? 90's music was SHIT, it was shit then, it was shit 10 years ago , and it is shit now.
Everyone used to say - IN THE 90's , NO LESS ! - that the 80s' Metal and Hairbands were shit & would be forgotten etc..
The irony of it all : 80's hard rock / Metal / hairbands have experienced a revival of their careers , where the avg. 90's band hasn't - except the largest selling ones like Pearl Jam etc..
Here it is , 23 + years later ....90's music : no revival,....thus it is shit. Get over yourself.

Yes, I'm older - and I lived through the times when popular music began a steady decline because it was mimicked and whored out for the last possible dime to be made - the epitome of that was the 90's - and yes, it was "alternative", that was the new found genre to market to death. It wasn't underground, that was the appeal, but it was very popular and very commercial. The result of all this is silly , pathetic TV shows that show little kids with their "rock band" etc..The 60's was the birth of evolved rock music, and mutl. genres of it began to spin off from that through the 70's and early 80's. Then there were divisions of those genres (thrash metal, rap, hip hop, country rock, punk rock, black metal etc...). By the 80's music co.'s had begun to totally "professionalize" an industry and market it so specifically via radio stations etc.. that it began to lose it's artistic value. That's where "underground/alternative" began - but that became the new cheaply marketed music commodity once Nirvana became popular.
Once the mp3 arrived, along with the Ipod etc.. - the music industry imploded from what it was once known as, because record co.'s and record execs didn't think the technology would eclipse their industry and allow more access to music outside of the machine they created. In some ways music is very pure these days , in terms of it's simplistic creation & the artist has the mass exposure means to themselves (ala CZcams & internet), but in other ways it is a pathetic shadow of it's former self. Bands/artists don't involve themselves in club circuit touring , to hone their craft, like they once did - which is the reason why we see these stupid TV shows like American Idol etc.. it's all about image, not so much substance anymore. And everything that can be done - in an original sense - has been done, and recycled and recycled more & more & more ...now there's really no originality - you hear all the influences there. Most of the music scene is a sham now.....
Every decade has music to love and hate. The 90's was no different. The 60's was no different. When it comes to which decade had better music, the argument is easily influenced by what decade one grew up in, what music one was first exposed to, etc. It usually has nothing to do with unbiased observations on the quality of music.
