  • WEEKDAY WORKOUTS ON BONGOS!!! AND IT'S TUTORIAL THURSDAYS!!!!
So this week, we are going to focus strictly on workouts that you can try out everyday on Bongos...
Today we are talking about how I developed my speed on Bongos... I always say Speed is not Everything... But it does help you develop clarity when done right. Take your time with these exercises and try using a metronome when doing so.
I hope y'all enjoy this one. Tell me what you think...

Short story. Last semester of college a friend suggested I take speed reading. I went from 400 words per minute to 4000 in a few weeks. When we learn how to read we speak our words. Most people never break the connection between their mouths and reading so only read as fast as they can speak. Just using our eyes changes everything. I've always thought that speed reading should be taught in elementary or junior high school. So, I've only been playing my bongos for a couple of weeks. I've mastered everything I've seen but tonight I was looking for speed. Your video changed everything. I happily couldn't keep up and am loving having a challenge to build on. Knowing how important speed, form and clarity are this early on will help me as I progress. Thanks for this great video. I'll subscribe too.

This is one of my many faves of your lessons. You are an inspiration with techniques, and histories. My percussion life has exploded since I subscribed 1yr ago. And still along way to go. Been jamming with friends for years, but I kinda sucked, never knew of cha-cha, guanguaco, Mozambique or ANY style/beat. Stuff like stories about the great musicians like TaTa G. (RIP). All the ritmos, beats, drills, overheads, etc., are great.
    We drummers owe you!

Fabulous video! I can feel the difference in my speed and accuracy building just after a few minutes of doing each one. One thing that I have experimented with is doing an exercise that starts with the right hand on, say the hembra. But then doing the same exercise starting with the left hand on the macho. Like the 4 hits on the hembra starting with my right hand and one on the macho for a bit. Then four hits on the macho and one on the hembra starting with my left hand. Great for both speed and coordination development with both the dominant and the non-dominant hand. Thanks for these lessons!

  • @bongoscongasantiquecashreg4544

I was doing that when starting out & had junk De Rosa bongos that had vintage key tuning at the top & they hurt my hands when I was improving so I went to LP Aspire bongos & that helped me to improve so much that I needed high end bongos yeah the LP Giovanni galaxy bongos that I have now & my playing is advanced finally after my losy set of De Rosa bongos that I tuned into the Deseret Industries thrift store for someone else to enjoy! Not worth selling those like I sold my LP Aspire bongos! Now I look into your techniques then add my flavor to my bongo playing so thanks again Eric!

Great content Erick! Could you tell me what specific kind of heads do you have on your Meinl bongos on this video? I love their sound/look and I’d like to try them on my own set of Meinl bongos. Thanks a lot! Muchos éxitos y bendiciones mi hermano✌🏼

It's a rubber ring... kinda what some athletes use. But it doesn't bother me or cause any injury. Thanks for the support!
