  • Complete Process of replacing the water pump impeller.
    I was following the steps listed at:
    forums.iboats....
    Which were quite useful but I could not find any illustrated guide or videos so I thought I would film the process and see if it might be useful to someone else who had never done this before. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions and give the video likes if you are so inclined.

    Very helpful. Almost identical to my 1990 90 hp. Not much on these force motors. They say they aren't very good however with this many of us having them 30 plus years later....seems to be they can't be all bad. May the force be with you! For years and years to come. Lol!

      Just got a boat with a 1991 force 5 cyl. Good to know this. Hey, does the white plastic sleeve tube on the water pump connect directly to the water tube of the same color/material found in the outboard? Or is there a piece that couples them?

    Thank you for taking the time. I have an ‘18 ft 87 Bayliner Trophy with the Force 125. Been a great boat. I have had zero issues in the 31 years of ownership. I am in a new area and now I am having to work on it myself because I can’t find a mechanic that will.

    Like Jerry R said a couple months ago- tilt the motor all the way up when removing and re-installing the lower unit makes it a ton easier. I have a 1991 Trophy with Force 150 bought new in 1991. Have done this replacement numerous times and am doing it again this week, not because of the pump but have gearcase leak from either the driveshaft and water pump seal or shift shaft seal and are replacing those and the pump parts at the same time. So you might want to consider looking at that while replacing the water pump impeller etc. if you do it again in the future.

    I just bought an 88 Capri with this motor on it, a few years ago I had a Capri with an 85 horse and changed the impeller and stator, it's not too bad. I'm going to start checking out this boat to see what it needs.

    Tilt the motor all the way up , makes it easier. Put it in gear and you can rotate the shaft by turning the prop shaft by hand.Always had to replace impeller housing on mine because of saltwater corrosion. Mines an 86' Very similar. Cheap simple motor hated by many but it still has 150 compression on all four cylinders , just wont die. Good video

    awesome video. two things i would say is grease is more ideal then dish soap but no biggy. also ive heard on just about every video that when installing the new impeller you should turn the shaft in the close wise position (same direction as the old impeller is molded into to). in the video you said counter clockwise. although im not a professional so it may not matter! lol
    About to buy a 1994 glasport fish and ski with one of these force 150ph motors for under $2k bc the motor needs a new water pump. hoping this video really helps when i need to replace it!

    Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. I have a 1990 Force 150HP and it's almost identical. I had no trouble following your steps and was able to fish out my (shattered) impeller and replace it in an afternoon. Hardest part was lining everything up when putting it back together. Mine was missing the 1/4" allen bolt, so it was helpful to know what to put back in there. I could only find an entire rebuild kit for $110 - according to the three shops I tried, they're getting scarce. You helped me out a ton!

    • @Curtis4JC
      @Curtis4JC  Před 4 lety

      Probably a good idea, however I was not sure how much it would weigh and I wanted to use the ground to help control the unit coming off. And there is also the fact that my tilt /trim bleeds off so the motor doesn't stay in the up position.
