    Just a little information for those interested in the LeTrap. In addition to cutting the end out to make it a river robber you may find that running aluminum strips down the sides and across the top support the structure quite well. I added ribbing to the strike plate which shows when I'm on a streak. Also please take into account that this type of box likes faster water. It does not do well in slow-moving current. It will clog up with heavies. But when you have it in good running current which you can manage with funneling, it cleans itself out all day long quite well not losing a speck of gold.

    I don’t know about anyone else, but I mine in the middle of nowhere. So reliability is a top priority for my mining equipment. Because of that, I avoid plastic. After 60 years on this planet I’ve learned one thing that is consistent with all plastic - it’s a matter of when, not if, it will fail. Especially under the heavy stress of mining. And Mr Murphy always tells me he’s going to visit at the worst time possible.
    Metal equipment is generally easy to repair or at least get it to a state where I can get back to mining.
    Plastic equipment can’t be easily fixed. If it’s a critical piece of equipment, my trip is over.
    With so many excellent options in durable (metal) equipment, I just don’t see the value in taking less reliable gear into the field.

    cut my gold teeth on a le trap back in the late '80's. The square pan never failed me. can't say the same for round pans.

    Use both! It's all about running as much dirt as possible. You can increase the fine gold recovery by butting them together in the river and just shovel right into the top one. If you really want to classify make a basket. Just sluicing on a average day I normally get no less than 3 grams

      Great idea! I've had the Angus Mckirk foreman for about a month. Just ordered a 36inch. Aluminum with Carpet and expanded metal. Imma run them together. See how that works lol.

    I hate miners moss because gold gets stuck in it permanently. I have the Keene box and the green box and also my old Le Trap. My Le Trap has been used so much it has developed a tooth on the surface and it has the double riffle. Old man Le Trap gave it to me because I caught him and his class claim jumping on my claim.

      wow that's crazy lol...I must say I still love that miners moss:) The le-trap I def like those boxes but I really miss my angus sluice I like the easy clean ups and the angus was a bit shorter so some spots it worked better! Thanks for the comment!

      For sampling the LeTrap is hard to beat for ease of clean up and no chance of contamining samples like Miner's moss which is notorious for containing gold no matter how many times you shake and wash it. I have thought about cutting the LeTrap off at the third riffle down from the flare for backpacking, but it is so light I didn't have the heart to maim a really good product.

      @MattBroquard  Před 5 lety

      Yup, They are both super good boxes, light weight durable and super easy to clean up! The le-trap may be a little better because it's a little bit longer as far as fine gold goes but I caught a lot of gold with the angus too!

    It would be interesting to know the weight of the concentrates out of each box after a run say 15 gallons of 1/4 - mesh thrue each and how much cons after the run.

    • @MattBroquard
      @MattBroquard  Před 4 lety

      Yah that would be interesting, I've ran both boxes a pretty decent amount but have never kept :track of the amount of concentrate, But I think there plenty similar, The le-trap box is faster to clean up-on the account you can just wash it off, but I trust the keene box for running a bit more material in it before doing a clean up.

    You added the metal braces to the Angus box?
    Would you do the same to the Le Trap?

    • @MattBroquard
      @MattBroquard  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Leo the metal braces come with the angus boxes but as far as the le-trap box goes the company tells you to use a 1X4 with a rock to hold it down, I often use a stick lol There both pretty heavy duty boxes as far as flex and durability
