A cockatiel is a bird of the cockatoo family. Cockatiels are also called Carrion and Wiro . In Bangladesh it is better known as ' Cocktail' or ' Cocktail Bird' . Cockatiels are endemic to Australia ; Its scientific name is Nymphicus hollandicus . It is not found in the wild except Australia, but is kept as a caged domestic bird worldwide. It is the second largest caged species after Baziriga for its easy production of young, beauty .The cockatiel is the only species of the genus Nymphicus . Previously it was considered a crested parrot or small cockatoo. Recent molecular studies have included the cockatiel in its own subfamily Nymphicinae . It is now known as the smallest subfamily of the cockatoo family Cacatuidae . Cockatiels originated and ranged in Australia. They live in Australian swamps , wild thickets and scrublands.
