  • I really like using as little tools as possible to make a project, so using just spindle gouge on plate is just right up my alley....

    Before I learned to sharpen properly, I never had a difficult time sharpening my 3/8" spindle gouge. And when everything else isn't sharp any sharp edge seems miraculous. You demonstrated that light touch needed when the tool is sharp. So, I get scolded for using a spindle gouge on a small bowl and after that I quit using the spindle gouge for fear something would go wrong. Of course, the one scolding the new turner didn't bother to explain why they believed this. And, no, we weren't having the tiresome debate between the roughing gouge, we were talking SG, not SRG. At least that helped drive me to become better at sharpening, and I understand the physics needed depending on depth, hang over the tools rest, etc. But I'm glad I've seen a few very successful styles of turning that can be quite different. Understand the physics and cuts so it becomes intuition. Just like when I think you cannot possibly take another cut off that plate, and then you do. :)
    Last thought, that dust collector is so quiet! Happy for you and the recent upgrades, Tom!

      Thank you Jay, dust extractor is really quite silent😉...we all turn different style, that is what make this a nice job.
      I found spindle gouges to be more and more used especially like those handles which was done only with spindle gouge, saves time not to switch tools😀....
      Thank you for watching

  • @timofeyzhukov-khovanskiy9173

    Those handles look great. I like a big 5/8 rod spindle gouge for some roughing work too, and 1/2 rod for tune ups after.

    Великолепно, Томислав! Изящная и, я бы сказал, ювелирная работа. Такое ощущение, что ты и не спишь по ночам. Столько работ за последнее время! Когда ты всё успеваешь?

      Aaa good question.... I take one day in a week to shoot 7 videos for next week, and rest 6 days do other work, and after kids are asleep I edit those videos late at night..... Thank you for watching 🤗

    I could not tell for sure, when you reversed the plate, did you expand into the recess on the bottom or did you compress onto the spigot? Beautiful work, thank you for your videos.

    😮Hi Tomislav & Dodir which chuck did you use with the large extension jaws. I have Record Sc3 & Sc4 but the jaws. I bought the largest jaws I could from Record but nowhere near the size of your jaws on your chuck making the plate. Kind Regards

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  Před rokem

      Its vicmark chuck with 100mm jaws.... I have sc4 as well but the problem on record power is the travel of the jaws, its only 20mm where on vicmark is over 40mm.
