Great job love the old outboard motors! Basically they are just about bulletproof it’s the Lil things carbs coils impeller! Great video ! Thanks for sharing!
I have the identical motor....like brand new. Not pumping water so am contemplating replacing the impeller, I here it is an ungodly job. Wonder what the top speed is with these motors...anyone know??
I got 23 mph with that one. It is a large displacement for 10 hp; I think it is like 20 cubic inches so it has some grunt. You will need to buy or make the specialty tools to do the job. A 1” socket needs to be cut into a spanner to undo the left hand thread retaining ring on the pump cartridge. Also a blind hole bearing puller kit with a slide hammer is needed to remove the cartridge. I got mine from Harbor Freight and it works good. I also use it to pull forward gears/ bearings out of lower units.
Love your videos man! I see your boat is a 14ft. I have a deep V 14ft er. I’m not sure what horsepower I want. I’m looking at a few 10 horses. Should it be fine?
It should work fine. It really depends on how much you put in the boat. If you run it alone with very little gear, a 10 hp will be great, but if you have other people regularly and want to carry more gear, a 15 or 20 might work better. Adding another person on my boat drops the top speed about 4-6 mph.
Old outboard motors have brass bearing races . They need more oil in the mix use original mix rate.
