- We are joined by Ilan Pappé, professor of history at the University of Exeter in the UK and director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies.
Pappé gained renown as one of the “new historians,” a group of Israeli scholars who in the 1980s shattered longstanding Zionist lies about the founding of Israel, and corroborated Palestinian accounts of the Nakba using Israeli archival sources.
He’s the author of many books including A History of Modern Palestine: One Land, Two Peoples and The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. Pappé is also a regular contributor to The Electronic Intifada.

I, as a German, very much agree with Mr Pappe and don't understand the reaction of the German government to what happens in Gaza. Wrong is wrong no matter who commits it.
Germany's pro Israel stance has its roots in a history the Western world will simply not allow it to move on from. So, had they expressed any criticism against Israel, this current cry of "Anti-Semitism" levelled at any other when expressing outrage at this genocide, would have been tenfold. So. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

The reaction of the German government is understandable once you look at the interests of German imperialism. This is entirely missing from the discussion in the video. Instead Pappe insinuates that the German government is just reflecting the outlook of the German people when that is the ideological cover for the actions of the German ruling class.
It should be noted that In the 1990s the German government insisted Germany’s experience of the Nazi regime mean it “had” to intervene in the Balkans. It was German recognition of Slovenia the accelerate the disintegration of Yugoslavia as the European powers pursued their own interests.
Germany has tripled its military budget since 2022 and the U.S. bombing of the Nord Stream II pipeline shows it must, once again, fight for its “place in the sun”, especially against U.S. imperialism.
The only social force that can stop this is the international working class. It is as simple and as complex as that.

1. The two Desmond Rebellions took place in 1569-1573 and 1579-1583 to *fight against the threat of the extension of the English government* over the province.
2. The successful Battle of Clontibret was *fought against the British* in County Monaghan in 1595.
3. The successful Battle of the Yellow Ford was *fought against the British* in County Armagh in 1598.
4. The Nine Years' War, sometimes called Tyrone's Rebellion took place in Ireland from 1593 to 1603. It was fought between an Irish alliance to *fight against English rule in Ireland.*
5. The Rebellion of 1641 took place when Irish Catholics were being threatened by expansion of the anti-Catholic English Parliament and Scottish Planters and they *rebelled against English and Protestant domination.*
6. The Irish Rebellion of 1798 was a major uprising *against British rule in Ireland.* (The Society of United Irishmen was led primarily by liberal Protestants).
The Irish wanted an end to anti-Catholic discrimination, greater Irish self-governance, and to roll back the Plantations of Ireland.
7. The Irish rebellion of 1803 was launched by Irish republicans *against British rule in Ireland*
8. The Young Irelander Rebellion was an Irish nationalist uprising led by the Young Ireland movement, part of the wider Revolutions of 1848.

Single Issue Referendums with thresholds and a social contract means Communities can vote their own laws.
A Public Authority can audit police and prosecute bad cops in our own courts.
Nationalise resources and give Indigenous peoples the right of Sovereignty over them as Guardians.
This can be achieved through a General Strike or Velvet Revolution, much like the Occupy movement, peacefully occupying State Buildings until a People's Mandate can be implemented.
With the appropriate checks and balances, you could have a national digital forum where qualified professionals can debate the issues in a public setting without all the disinformation and bad faith antics, hatespeech etc.
Any vote would need to pass the 70% threshold, with a veto or _rewrite_ vote needing 30%.
The issues would be debated, the public educated, and then a vote taken. Votes that fail will have to wait a year before trying again. Any new proposal (Citizen Initiated Referendum) would have to reach a threshold of support before it made it onto the register. This would be subject to a Social Contract (New Constitution) that forbids human rights abuses and discrimination.
That can be written in the same manner based on the core principles we all share. Councils and Boards could operate in the same fashion at Scale.
It works in a way that obligates people to better educate themselves ( that is to use logic and evidence in their reasoning ) for a better understanding of the issues, and then take collective responsibility for the outcomes. As opposed to the divisive US v them scapegoating and bi-partisan finger pointing the current Capitalist Pyramid Scheme runs on.
We need Government by People's Referenda, either through Mascot Candidates or Peaceful Occupation of the Capitals until one is established.
Make it an annual March on Oct 14.
This has been going on for centuries. It's just now as we are entering the Age of Aquarius, everything is there for all to see. For anyone who wants a solid understanding of the Palestine issue, I suggest that you read “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine” by Ilan. I have just finished reading it and intend to do a rereading, for it is so packed with information.
I second your recommendation of this honest, informative book. I read it about 16 years ago. Another excellent book tip read is THE BIRTH OF ISRAEL: MYTHS AND REALITIES by Simha Flapan, also a Jewish Israel, now deceased.

I am curious. Does he admit the truth that the ancient Israelites were black/brown afro peoples, and that many real biblical jew descendants fled into africa after the 70ad fall of jerusalem? I recently bought and read Ilan's book The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. It is meticulously researched and referenced, citing numerous primary sources, including Zionist and Israeli archives. I cannot recommend it too highly. It was also well written, bringing the history around 1948 alive. This was an engrossing interview. Thank you Electronic Intifada.
What about the ethnic cleansing of Jews from the West Bank and Gaza in 1948, as well as the ethnic cleansing of sound a million Jews from NiagaRa countries in the Middle East at about the same time. What about the invasion of Israel by several Arab armies in 1948 that sought to genocide all the Jews of Israel? You certainly have a very selective idea of history!

Their solidarity is not bad, but I just heard a good argument the other day for not essentializing Jewish voices in the Palestinian struggle. Basically, doing so advances the notion that being Jewish gives someone a special moral right /obligation to opine on "Israel". I know this isn't where the people you mentioned above are coming from at all, of course, but it's defo not crazy to conceive of Palestinian voices being passed over by MSM outlets to have on amti-Zionist Jews instead, especially because Zionists prefer to abuse them over a "racial minority" (READ: _Aravim_ ) when in the ("Western") public eye. I'll be damned if I can remember who advanced this, but...they might well have been on EI!
P.S. "Jewish" is not an ethnicity. It's a religion. Are people from Spain, Iraq and Ukraine all the same ethnicity?
Don't get too carried away. Israel is here to stay. Best you can do is the Abraham Accords plus the two state solution. The sooner this is accomplished the better for everyone.

Being close to Ilan Pappe's age, I understand and agree with him in regards to change being in the hands of young people. My generation pretty much bought into our US government's presentation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict via mainstream news media. I personally didn't entirely accept this because I had been directed to books that contradicted the official narrative. But, I never imagined the level of atrocities being committed by Israel that I've been viewing in real time since October 7. I can only hope that people who care about humanity will continue to protest this horrible injustice that's still being carried out with the support of the US and other Western powers.

I was born in 1952 most probably a year before Iilan. I got into this issue by accident. I had been given a new Galaxy ipad for my fifty year birthday by my sons. Being a natural curious man I started asking questions on CZcams and online. My inquiry was about the Federal reserve controversy, and the name Eustace Mullins came up. This led to his meeting with the American poet Ezra Pound, then Mullins started talking of the pushback he recieved from Jewish groups when he attempted to gain information on how and who set up the Federal reserve system. From that point I started asking questions about how jews in America became so powerful in politics etc. That was twenty years ago. What a journey it has been. If only the majority of Americans were half as curious as I am , the Zionists in America would have a much tougher gime controlling and manipulating our politicians.

Thanks for the education by Ilan and the "relentless" informations by the e.i. I am too old to be a young fighter (74) for the rights of the Palestinians, but I was in Afghanistan and Somalia during the war, so I do my best to support all the good people, who still have empathy and morality left.
I'm much older now too, but I think we have insights that bring morality and consequences into the picture. These days there are lots of people, both young and old, who point to the use of brute force as an acceptable way of dealing with problems. Also, many substitute angry tribal emotionality for rationality and empathy. As seniors, I think we can articulate this problem more clearly. Thank you for your comment.
