Since we do our own concrete work, we do the rat edges (brick ledge) on the concrete and that eliminates the common water seepage issue in tubular buildings. If you didn’t get the brick ledge on concrete, we recommend to have tubular builder install M-Seal along with polyurethane self leveling sealant under the base rail. It helps tremendously.
When you're doing the concrete slab have your concrete guy lay a 2x4 on top of the slab and that will give you perfect lip for the tube to sit in. It's done in Florida as a standard.

I'm considering a 30'x50'x12' tall metal building with four 10x10 roll-up doors and two walk-in doors and six 30"x36" windows. I've gotten several quotes from three different companies. I might go with Alan's Factory Outlet that services my area (southeast North Carolina). I haven't given any monies nor signed any contract but will do more investigating before I pull the trigger. Clarification for viewers: A-Frame Vertical and A-Frame Horizontal use the same truss system and look almost identical other than the orientation of the roof panels. It may be confusing for laymen to hear terms like "Vertical Roof" or "Horizontal Roof" because it implies that these are different "roof styles." Roof panel orientation does not equate to a different style. They are the same roof style with a horizontal or vertical roof panel configuration. A more accurate description is a "Gable Roof (the style) with horizonal (or vertical) oriented roof panels." Corrugated roof panels can only span when laid perpendicular to the structural system. Therefore, they can either span across trusses, or they can span across a secondary structural system (purlins) when orientation is parallel to trusses.

Awesome information. I do have a question though. Do the legs get upgraded only as the building gets taller or are they also upgraded with width when the trusses upgrade? So if you were to be building a metal building over 12’ tall; would it be worth it to stay at the 30’ width?
Great question. To answer your question- both. The legs get upgrades when the building gets taller AND when it surpasses the 30' width. When the building goes into the 30'+ commercial trussing that includes the legs as well. Compare the pricing for the 30' width 12' tall+ to the commercial and see which is best for you. Great video, have you done radiant heat in any metal buildings? I am hoping one day to build a 60x 80 and was wondering if that would be an efficient way to heat it.
I am no expert by any means! However, I'll share my experience with radiant heat in my home. It's great to walk across those floors in the fall and winter time. Unfortunately, though, it didn't negate having another heating system in my residence. Or the cost to protect this investment in case of a lengthy power outage. So, you might want to consider a backup power system. I considered going this route, but it was much cheaper to install a force air system. Along with the benefits of adding A/C. Which was a must for me! You gotta weigh the costs and know exactly what you want and need. Before you can tackle these projects and also be open to contingency plans. Good luck with your project!

why would the metal building industry hate you for sharing this information? It's not like they are losing profit when buyers use these strategies. This info just about educating buyers about the cost of materials and labor. You said yourself that things like equipment fees are out of your control. You're doing the metal building industry a favor by educating buyers about the realities of design decisions and the impact of structural systems.

Your best bet is a Red Iron Bolt Up building. You will need to have engineering plans with the building. Definitely doable!
