i've experienced this before, paying full amount in terminal, and they did not give us any ticket or receipt. we thought it was just 1 bus for the whole trip, but it's a series of vans and buses. from phnom penh, cambodia to vientiane, laos. that was a stressful experience hahaha
But these people didn't pay at the terminal for the bus fare. They paid a private mode of transportation (illegal or what we call colorum) for cheaper fare (P1900/person or P3000/2 people instead of P2265) to save money and leave early

According to a news article, the LTFRB were able to catch 37 colorums between September and December of 2022. I'm not sure if that's nationwide of only in NCR. The team in this video was able to catch 5 colorum vans on Friday morning.

Some people don't even realize it's colorum. They're waiting at the real bus terminal and someone approaches them and says they can give a faster and more comfortable ride. They get taken to a nearby travel & tours shop or terminal, and they THINK they're getting into a franchised van. Just today, a driver showed a P10,000 handwritten receipt which he says he paid to the terminal behind Five Star, so that he can do colorum trips out of their terminal. Commuters would see the cashiers desk, waiting area, all the signages and assume they're using a legal service 🤷♂️ Just to be clear, the terminal isn't related to Five Star, it's just at the back, near them.
