I love how they said it though, Dillinger is one complete work of art and we loved the discography as it was, and didn’t want to continue for continuing sake; their journey as a single piece of art was complete, throw it on the shelf to avoid ruining it with burnout

I like that dillinger goes melodic at times. It really shows how great mucisians they are. Not only are they good at writing complex rythms, but their knowledge of harmonies let's them create pretty intersting chord progressions, and put melodic motives together with chords that you normally wouldn't use.

To those of you I love
    This pains me to lose
    I hate to feel used
I'm frightened in sleep. thinking my world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
    I can't see yet
To those of you I've lost
    That pained me to love
Please know that I tried (2x)
I'm frightened in sleep. thinking my world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams, from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
    I can't see yet
    Do you really think
    That I would leave you
    I couldn't stand myself
    So I had to choose
Still you turn me on, though wild in your eyes
    Now I can't trust myself
    To keep on the light
    For us to see with
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking our world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young

It's...it's not a sad thing Dillinger are ending. Nothing lasts forever, sure, but it's also a very rare exception for a band to go out when they're so close to reaching their very apex and leave behind such a definitive, finite statement of creativity. Everyone seems to be moving on to other projects, other outlets, and it's enough to leave us fans satisfied, but longing for more.
For some reason, I have this sneaking suspicion that while this might be the end *for now*, Dillinger will be back in a good 5 or 6 years, releasing maybe one more EP. Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the band forming, and releasing their first album on Now or Never Records, and in 3 more years, Calculating Infinity will be 20 years old.
Strange. It doesn't feel like that long ago that the lot of us discovered this band, Greg Puciato included. But, it's like the old poem by Robert Frost says, _"nothing gold can stay"_.

    • @ElectricTurkey1
      @ElectricTurkey1 Před 8 lety +7

Yeah I agree. In one interview Ben said they have a lot of other material they didn't include on this album, so I feel that after a while maybe they'll revisit some of it. But another part of me thinks they're just fucking with us about calling it quits... We'll wait and see

      @antoinefortin6269 Před 8 lety +3

I agree, BUT. Imagine doing the same thing over and over again for almost 20 years. It's gotta do something to your brain. PLUS, I think leaving at that point is a very intelingent (depends the way you see it) move...... They are gonna be legends. A group young lads will remember till they die. A band new generations will learn to enjoy and eventually, new ''legendary bands'' will say taht they like TDEP and it will all come full circle, they will be GODS!

I cant believe Calculating Infinity came out that long ago. That album was ahead of its time. Will always be one of my all time favorite albums, right up there with Botch's "We are the Romans". Dillinger did their job, and they did it well, to say the least. All good things must come to an end, so I really gope this album will be epic, but for some reason I don't think it will be amazing like Option Paralysis and One of us is the killer are. Hopefully they prove me wrong. Nothing well ever touch Calculating Infinity...and Im not saying I dont love how far theyve come and how they have branched out with their sound, Im just saying "Calculating Infinity" is pure gold.

    • @bladechild2449
      @bladechild2449 Před 8 lety +3

I dunno, I feel as if people who really like the last 2 approach DEP a different way.
I don't dislike the last 2, in fact One of Us... is borderline brilliant in places, but I'll be honest, their last great album was Ire Works because their less frantic stuff was very well placed and their nuts stuff had a form of identity. And that's what they've suffered with for a long while with the exception of a few songs off One of Us... their trademark balls to the wall songs lack something discernible.
I've heard the new album and have to admit, it's pretty average. The hard stuff is constantly in 3rd gear, and none of the soft stuff comes close to Mouth of Ghosts. Even Unretrofied knocks them all out of the park, and I dunno how to feel about that.
At times it feels like a cross between a NIN/FNM record with Gregg screaming and singing. Sounds like a recipe for a winner, but I dunno. It seems to just go on and on.
Maybe in the end DEP turned into a band that created music for people to actually listen to with a different intent. But really, they were always "that nuts band" who played hard, fast and ridiculous music. And maybe that's why they've called it a day now. They just don't have that in them creatively anymore.

    • @arekhautaluoma4276
      @arekhautaluoma4276 Před 8 lety +4

I find anyone that complains about 'new' or 'melodic' DEP are nitpicky whiners.
This album kills it in so many places, and consistently. I recall that I wasn't drawn to 'One of Us' immediately, but that was more to do with my fluid taste in music, and simply not being drawn to it at that time. Now, I can revisit any DEP album, and thoroughly enjoy it, and in my opinion, that's simple consistency...I don't see these highs and lows that other people seem to see within their career. I suppose Calculating Infinity stands out as the most raw/brutal, and I'm definitely drawn to that, but this album is similarly brutal in a myriad of ways, different and similar to the previous albums.
The jazz progressions in Low Feels Blvd sound very Zappa, and the sounds were very new for DEP. I just find this album very interesting throughout, and it holds me just as well as all the others.
idk I suppose I get it though, I feel the same way about other artists. I'm just completely gay for DEP.

I actually think of the guy from Ugly Kid Joe whenever i hear his melodic vocals. It's really off-putting. I still don't get why they thought it was a good idea to reform the band w/ a Mike Patton impressionist. The EP w/ him was supposed to be the bookend to their career as a band.

You're not far off. Mike Patton's super close with Dillinger. He produced some of their stuff too. Good ear man!

Yesterday I saw Excrementory Grindfuckers. First of all I was very impressed of them. Then at the end of the show the drum player threw his t-shirt to the crowd. I was the one who got it. The t-shirt is with The Dillinger Escape Plan. I just discovered both bands, and I am really impressed. Thanks a lot destiny

    Lyrics
To those of you I loved
    This pains me to lose
    I hate to feel used
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking my world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
    I can't see it
To those of you I've lost
    That pained me to love
    Please know that I tried
    Please know that I tried
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking my world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
    I can't see it
    Do you really think
    That I would leave you?
    But I couldn't stand myself
    So I had to choose
    Still you turn me on
    The wild in your eyes
But now I can't trust myself
    To keep on the light
    For us to see with
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking our world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking our world will be gone
    Promise me I won't die
