  • The Mann-Whitney U test, also known as the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon (MWW) test or Wilcoxon rank-sum test, is a non-parametric test used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the distributions of two independent groups. It is often used as an alternative to the t-test when the assumptions of the t-test, such as normality of the data, are not met.
Key Features of the Mann-Whitney U Test:
Non-Parametric: Does not assume a normal distribution of the data.
Independent Samples: Compares two independent groups.
Ordinal Data: Can handle ordinal data or continuous data that can be converted into ranks.
Rank-Based: Uses the ranks of the data rather than the data values themselves.
