  • A comedy-style video essay diving into the most absurdly dumb moments throughout Damsel. Critiquing and breaking down how terrible the writing is throughout the entire movie. An example being how implausible it is for Millie Bobby Brown to solo a dragon. Damsel is a new 2024 movie released by Netflix: A young woman agrees to marry a handsome prince -- only to discover it was all a trap. She is thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon and must rely solely on her wits and will to survive.

Maybe create a Hunger Games-esque 'Victor's Village'-type deal; where the families of those who volunteer as 'sacrifices' get to live -- they get all kinds of benefits in return, & the Royal Family gets multiple generations of people supporting them, in return for said benefits- which would make it difficult for anyone who wanted to *change* things (say, a new bride- who'd married the prince _after_ the sacrifices- & then, learning about their 'charming' family tradition; she has to decide if she'll fight against the status quo, to save innocent lives)...
      Also, was it made clear who those red-draped priestesses were? The Queen was dressed the same- so...? {Are they like the actual princesses of the royal family, from earlier generations?! That would add a very dark & complex factor to the tale...}

Something I really wanted to mention, is the fact that the dragon is somehow presented as somewhat of a misunderstood villain. All while the royals are pure evil, for sacrificing innocent girls. However the reason for that is the dragon in the first place. She decided that, because some dude long ago killed her children his descendents must suffer for centuries. This dragon wanted to kill innocent girls, because of something they never did and never had any control over. How does the reveal that her victims werent actually the innocents she wanted to kill make her a good guy in the end. The royals did some messed up stuff, however it was really the only thing to do to keep their own family and children safe.

1.- If supposedly the dragon kept to herself and it was the humans that started the violence... why would they go into the dragons lair in the first place if it was not a threath? And why of all the people the king had to be there? Why not send dragon slayers or offer a reward?
2.- According to other websites they had to offer 3 girl every 10 years (for 300 years!!!) Did they have to marry the prince or king several times every 10 years? did no one notice the missing or disappearance of princesses over the years?
3.- Of all the items she removed from that clunky ass dress... why on earth she kept the damn corset??!!
4.- If the slugs were magical that could cure anything... why not use them on her father??
6.- Did she really just touch her father sword and suddenly knew how to use it?? is she a Disney-Jedi??
7.- How does a dragon get burnt by it's own fire?? (all of my D&D freak friends lost their sh*t on this one) 🤣🤣
8.- At the end the dragon and Elodie killed more people than the royal family!! she practically turns into Dracarys levels of evil!!

Even from the very beginning shot it showed them standing in a triangle formation and I thought "oh that's a perfect cone for a fire breath!" Come on! They knew they were going up against something that FLIES. What's your melee sword going to do.
And then when her father goes and get her, same damn thing. None of the men he brought with him brought ranged weapons. Not even a spear! And also, how does a kingdom who LIVES NEXT TO A DRAGON not have tons of castle defenses set up all along its walls and towers JUST IN CASE the dragon turns bad. Why aren't every wall aligned with net throwers, ballista, archers when they LIVE NEXTX TO A DRAGON. How does a girl and a dragon sneak up on an entire castle at the end? The Critical Drinker is a terrible critic who bases his criticisms purely on nostalgia. He is blissfully unaware of the artistic side of media. As for this video, I haven't seen the movie, so I can't talk about it from a personal perspective. However, Supercuts seems to be under the impression that all stories have to be logical. They don't. Logic is only one facet of storytelling. As is the case with kost art, the emotions behind it are often the most important part. If we criticized all fairy tales and religious stories with this kind of pedantry, all societies would crumble and die. This just strikes me as pointless "why didn't the birds fly Frodo and Sam to the mountain," all while being blissfully ignorant of the emotional purposes of solemnly struggling up Mount Doom. George R. R. Martin set out to make fairy tales logical. This is the ASOIAF and Game of Thrones, though, hence we have to look at it from a different perspective. It strikes me as trying to use the same formula that made Supercuts Delight successful, only it's applied to the wrong story, all because of a "girl boss" protagonist. That's really the crux of it, I think. If a man were the protagonist, this movie would have been dismissed by the "anti-woke" crowd, because "men can take it!" I expected as such from the Critical Drinker, the sensitive, insecure asshole. I would have never expected that from Supercuts Delight.

I watched this just last night. It wasn't bad. But it wasn't slow and felt much much longer than it was.

Yo say what you will about the plot but I quite liked the fire effects for this movie. Still trash but good job to the CGI artists.

@8:50 I really disagree with your here. Elody saves herself. The men HELP her to save herself by giving her this rope to climb out, but free herself she does in the end.

The woman that does the dragons voice, I knew who it was right away. I’ve seen other things she’s been in. I can’t remember her name right now but she really sounds like that. That is her unedited voice lol.

Supercuts doesn't know what a bat is.
The dream sequence is just a dream sequence, she's imagining the other girls who were there before her. The "it's a lie" line is presumably her reflecting on the fake princess scam. It doesn't reveal any information she didn't already know.
I thought the movie was pretty good. She survives some insane falls, but that's standard for any action movie. She never seemed particularly smart to me but that's fine too, I'd rather have a character who feels weak a lot of the time so it makes the eventual heroic rise more meaningful. The real problem with the movie is that she could've told the dragon about the fake princess scam from the start and avoided all this nonsense. There's no way around that fact.

the way the dragon's senses just gets dumbed down by 1000% is so frustrating. suddenly it can't see or smell or anything. it's so plot convenient in ways that made me angry.

Yah, I also find kinda clever that the cave wall was fire returning... The air suggested it quite a lot. Yet.... if it is a fire dragon, they are mostly fire resistant, and if it is an ice dragon they are ice resistant....and so on.... but OK.
