Jeannine Goeckeritz and Tamara Oswald are principal flute and principal harp with the Orchestra at Temple Square where they perform, record and tour with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (formerly the Mormon Tabernacle Choir). Our Catholic choir, which honors its members by performing at our family funerals, had learned this lovely piece only months before the Requiem Mass for our two beloved sons. When asked for my request, all I could remember was "... and like a child at home". All these years later (14), this gorgeous rendition still brings comfort.
I'm now a grown man that grew up singing this most anointed song in church. Regardless of the setting, whenever I hear this most worshipful and awe inspiring song...it brings tears of joy and great comfort to my unworthy soul. “The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days and may thy house be my abode, and all my works be praise. There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come.. No more a stranger nor a guest, but like child at home.” I believe in this song’s message and I thank the Lord Jesus for the promise that lies therein.

Dear Jeannine, l have a question. Since you have performed on so many wonderful recordings and events, is it possible that you could help me fulfill a lifelong ambition? First of all, I’d love to attend one of the choirs performances! Secondly, (and this would be a great stretch, indeed) but, if I were to perform with the choir...well, it would be a nothing less than a dream come true! My church choir has performed many of Mac’s arrangements over the years with orchestra and we did a pretty good job...especially for a small hometown church from Alabama. Honestly, I watch the men sing and the discipline required to stand so straight, with such little to no movement, just leaves me in awe. Thank goodness, they allow the instrumentalists a greater margin of movement to play their instruments! 😊 I’m quickly approaching retirement ( I’m 63) and I cannot think of something more satisfying for my bucket list than this. Just point me in the right direction, if you could...please. My church is: The First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, Alabama and their are recordings that you may listen too...before you dare mention this to Mestro Wilberg. 🙄 🤔 😂 😉. Look, I know that it takes years of preparation...so, forget about #2.🤞. Many thanks to you and To God be the Glory!

Still my favorite Mormon tabernacle choir song of all time. It speaks to my heart and my longing. This song feels like home to me even though ironically growing up I really didn't have much of a home. Maybe because of that the yearning for belonging is stronger than other people would have. And for a really weird reason I feel like I had heard this song even before I actually heard it for the first time, if that even makes sense. It assures me that I belong...somewhere, where I will feel love and peace in finality.

You would have to have a heart of stone to not at least feel a small ounce of comfort and peace when listening to this song. What a beautiful piece of music. This is what I would like to think heaven is like when you enter. A beautiful place with a host of angels singing this song to welcome you in.

This rendition was recorded when the Choir was still at its peak, and is, of all of their other recordings of this hymn, still the best rendition of all. The musical setting by Max Wilburg, pays appropriate tribute to both the writer of the words, Mr. Isaac Watts, called the "Father of English Hymnody," and William W. Bradford, who set the poem to music.
2020, I sang this hymn 3 years ago in my YSA choir. Since that day, I sing it to comfort my soul. The initial verses "My Shepherd will supply my need:

This was sung at President Hinckley's funeral while they showed a montage of photos from his life. I'll never forget how that moment changed me. THAT is how I want to live my life.

Yes. I am their Woodwind Coach. My colleague, Maestro Conrad Dunn conducts it. We worked together a lot when we both lived in Salt Lake City. I have also taught Elementary Band for 23 years now. I play 13 instruments, but by far, the Oboe and English Horn are my most favorite instruments to play, followed closely by clarinet, saxophone, piano, and trumpet. Plus, my English Horn happens to be the very one that was used in the movie "Robinhood, Prince of Thieves" with Kevin Costner. The gal I bought it from in 1993 said she did studio work on the side and recorded the movie in 1991 with that English Horn. It was over 60 years old, then. I feel so privileged to now own it!
