Mendelssohn composed this 12th symphony in 1823, when he was only 14 years old. The symphony is composed of three movements. It begins with a serious Fugue, in the style of Bach, a fact that the influence of his professor Carl Zelder is not strange, since he greatly admired Bach, Mozart and Haydn. Which served as a model for the work developed by Mendelssohn. This is followed by an extraordinary and fabulous Andante. Finishing the work by a magnificent and vigorous Andante. This symphony was designed to be played by two violins, two violas, a cello and a bass. The masterpiece is the result of an unusual and amazing ability to create music by one of greatest composers of Romanticism. The orchestration and direction are superb. Thanks for this magnificent recording that allows us listen to such fabulous music

This is so moving, isn't it? Written so young, with such hope and insight. It makes me cry with joy to think what people, at their best, can do. I love all his early symphonies, but for me, this is the best.

It's remarkable for someone to write something like this at the age of 14! Well, I can't stop listening to the fabulous Andante of this symphony

It seems Mozart learnt about Bach later on in his career, but managed the amazing fugue in the last movement of the Jupiter Symphony. I hear Mozart in this piece, but Mendelssohn was learning his counterpoint at a very young age. Splendid work!

Mozart was already able to use counterpoints in prepuberal age: he wrote a fugue when he was 10 years old. If you want to listen to it, you can type "Mozart: Galimathias musicum, K.32 - 3. Fuga" here in youtube. In my channel you also find the entire work, called "Galimathias musicum". The fugue is the last movement.
Keep in mind that he was formed inside the galant music, which was melody focused. This is why he tended to keep things simple in the texture. Many persons here in youtube say that the young Mendelssohn was better only because in his early works there is a greater textural complexity, but the melodies of Mozart in my opinion were more distinctive and imaginative. Most pieces in this set of string symphonies of Mendelssohn have "anonymous melodies", while the young Mozart was already writing a lot of memorable themes.

Wrong picture! Mendelssohn was 14 years old, hen he composed this amazing piece. It's the same with Brahms: how often do we see the old Brahms pictured when his Requiem is played - which he composed when he was 34 and 35 years old...

"Wrong picture" is a bit overreacting, it's still him. :D
But of course, you're right, I wasn't aware of the portrait of Mendelssohn as a kid when I did these videos.
