    Saw movie IL Gattopardo . Loved the film and even more loved the music composed by Nino Rota .It so beautiful All the Italian movies he wrote the music to , were so popular in part of his music , especially "God father"

    The first (and so beautiful) waltz was not composed by Rota, it was early work for piano of Giuseppe Verdi and in 1963 orchestrated by Rota for the film

    Were these actually originally by Verdi or was that a hoax? The whole story about finding unknown Verdi manuscripts in a second hand shop does sound a bit sketchy. I think Rota may have pulled a Fritz Kreisler here.

      Please explain the Fritz Kreisler reference. Listen to the introduction of Ernesto's aria 'Povero Ernesto' from Donizetti's opera 'Don Pasquale' to hear Rota's 'Godfather' theme..
