    Fun fact 2: I also hear that those two melodies are quite reminiscent of Liszt's "Vallée d'Obermann" 2nd theme.

    And yet somehow people think Brahms or Bruch are more deserving of a top 5 spot on the ranking of best violin concertos. Forget top 5, this has an argument to be THE top. I think only Beethoven or Tchaikovsky could rival it.

    • @princepsangelusmors
      @princepsangelusmors Před 11 měsíci

      I don't think Tchaikovsky is nowhere close. Tchaikovsky's is incredibly basic in terms of orchestration, and it's a concerto for violin *and orchestra* - it's right there in the title: the orchestra is an integral part of the genre. Sibelius is by far the king of the genre, but Bruch and Mendelssohn are up there, too. I'd put Tchaikovsky at the end, really. Good tunes but his orchestration is incredibly mediocre.

      Although I assume you are being ironic, for those who might not know, “poco forte” (a favorite marking of Brahms as well as Sibelius) literally means “a little forte”. Cellist Diran Alexanian said Brahms told him he meant “the character of forte but the sound of piano.” (Quoted in the book “The Teaching of Artur Schnable”). She does indeed have a very different take on the first movement from other violinists.
