I always figured that being a slave owner in a movie would be a really shitty way to start an acting career.
Yeah... What if you end up getting typecast that way? Huge possibility, considering it's probably not a popular part among actors. Typecast as a racist, yeah no thanks.
My boyfriend went to a HS where he was one of the few white people. In every play they performed that had a racist white character, he played the part. He was good, but people who didn't know him thought he was sus AF.

How's is he did he pursue acting?
It’s called acting that’s the craft! That’s what they get paid big money to do! And great actors can pull off very uncomfortable parts
That's only because people are super sensitive these days, they really don't separate the art from the artist either.
I haven’t laughed this hard in years..I never realized how crazy casting for parts like that would be. Whoever came up with this skit, a fucking Genius

yes it was.
This is real life for actors! People think acting is an easy profession.. it's a very psychological sometimes very challenging career and this skit depicts that perfectly.
Leonardo DiCaprio in Django is one of the greatest performances ever and it doesn't get talked about much for obvious reasons... 😂

This is honestly a pretty honest sketch. It must have been hard to force actors to act cruelly like that.
So...if you think ut must've been hard fir them to act these roles...how come that for the rest of american socuety it is assumed that they arr all bigotted racusts who have to be halted from expressing it. Why do you think a hollywood actor us any different?
@@markaplier1261 Woah there. Aren't you being a bit presumptuous? All I said that it must have been hard for the actors. That shouldn't imply anything.
@@gumballfan13 yeah, I know, and I'm not blaming you for not interpreting it how I did. I am simply making you aware of the fact that there is a double standard when it comes to assuming who is racist. I assume that you are not racist, so it is hard for you to utter these words. The question then is, do you also assume that other people find it hard to utter racial slurs (excluding actors)? Because so it seems to me, if you are only a tat representative of the attitude on racism in us society, then you would see racism everywhere in the public sphere; interpreting everything which has to do with African Americans which is not extremely positive towards them, as racist. My point is that if so, there is hypocrisy in assuming racism in others in the society, but not towards actors. as if because the people are leftists (which most of them are) and Hollywood stars changes anything about their inner believe system. Maybe I assumed too much of you, but I still am interested to know what you think about what I postulated, this double standard when it comes to who is assumed to be racist and who is not.

Why is it we can acknowledge the realism of situations (race relations) when in a comedic setting yet will not seriously acknowledge that same realism (racism, prejudice) otherwise?
That's one of the functions of comedy, good comedy enables people to say/confront things they'd never say otherwise. Think of All in the Family... purposely intended to get us all talking about race.
While I think D DiGiorgio made a good point, I'd also like to add that SNL has a largely liberal (meaning anyone left of center) audience, the same demographic which has been more willing to acknowledge these things. There aren't as many conservatives watching this, and maybe they wouldn't be laughing as much.
@@ddigiorgio8438
Thats a good (and very true) point. The only problem is, that approach to topics like racism tends to remain in comedy and rarely spills over into real life. So its like we can talk about it as long as humour takes the real sting out. But when its time to discuss 'the sting', its a problem to talk about.
Excellent question. Comedy is often like philosophy. It interprets and reflects life back to us, and often points out what is absurd. This is what makes us laugh. Here, the absurdity is having a white person of today saying the horrible words that historically were spoken so easily.
Mike O´Brien was such a good member of the cast he was very funny with what they let him do, sad that he is no longer on the show.

@@jaywinner328 Now everything is a stupid woke joke.
@@franknuzzo2576 I mean...not really? The whole concept of something being "woke" is just an individual self-reporting that they can't handle anything to do with, y'know, how society works - in that it's always moving forward. Go back 50 years and the shit you wouldn't find acceptable then is what you would call "woke" today.
