I know that Joe is alive and everything, it was confirmed he was Leo's driver. But Vito saying "If Joe was still alive he would've found me by now" makes me want to cry
I think leo wanted Vito to think joe was dead and vice versa.
1st off Joe would never ever be somebody's driver. He saw them as the loser's. He liked action. Second Leo Gallant ordered the hit on Joe to cover up Vito's track's. Joe has to answer for killing his Boss. Joe fights the guys, in Mafia 2 breaks one's jaw and gets away, he ends up taking scores, escapes to Chicago. There he joins and has a Crew. Not sure if he's running his own or working for someone but they betray him when they learn who wants him dead. In the end they cut off his hands because he breaks a guys jaw and knocks out a eye socket out. Lincoln Clay kills the men responsible. Vito can't do it himself because they know all about him and that he wants them Dead

That thing with Joe being mutilated was made up by Leo to make Vito believe Joe was killed. And about Joe being more into action, maybe he just had a different perspective about those things after he thought that Vito died.

Mafia 2 was the best storyline in any game and movie I’ve ever seen. It was brilliant . When the car turned on a different street in m2, my heart dropped.

If it's not Joe, why would they make it so elaborate that there's something special about him? Zooming in, pausing the camera on him, that combined with Vitos' side missions? Has to be him.

How do you know it's the developer replying? You do realize Mafia III was developed by Hangar 13 and not 2K Czech, who did Mafia 1 and 2? The Twitter account is run by a Hangar 13 affiliate and I bet the person doesn't know shit about Joe's status, he's not in the position to decide that. It's not like he directed Mafia II, in fact, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Developers themselves rarely run social media pages, they have other people do it for them. There's not a single name listed on it either.

This game had a lot of potential. They should have just kept the linear, story-driven structure of 1 and 2.
Hopefully they rectify their mistake in Mafia 4. I think there needs to be a balance between the open world activities of Mafia 3 and the linear storytelling of Mafia 1 and 2. The problem with 3 was the repetitiveness of the main and side missions. If they were to keep the open world stuff but make it varied and more fun then it’d be great.

(SPOILERS) joe is still alive, at the end when leo gallante gets back in the car the camera lingers on the driver, most might say its pepe driving, but the driver has the exact same chin scar that joe has in maffia 2, and the scar near the nose that pepe has is not present under the driver's nose. the driver's chin looks more like joe's than pepe's

For those who don't know, Joe is alive and well. He's seen in that one scene with Leo Galante as hia chauffeur when he comes to meet Lincoln after you kill Marcano. Now, one could argue that that's Pepé and not Joe, but the small half smile he gives Lincoln before getting in and driving off is a dead giveaway that it's definitely Joe.
As for why Vito doesn't know of him and still thinks he's dead, is because (and this is a theory of mine) but Leo separated these two deliberately because he knows they're quite possibly the most dangerous and reckless members of the House when they're working together, so it's best to keep them away from one another and make it seem that the other is dead

After I saw Joe working for Leo Galante, I just damn smiling and drove back to Vito. I press the button to communicate with him just because I wanted to shout to him that 'Damn, your fucking friend is still alive, old man. Cheer up'. I didn't even care about the final mission. And when I heard John said something about killing everyone before they burried me. WTF, John. I ain't never do any harm to Vito, ever. And then at the end when I saw Vito took over the whole city, I was just laughing. Man, that old man Vito deserves it all

Like Vito and Joe were best of friends their WHOLE lives- from the day they met in Empire Bay to their time in the Mob together, all the way to the end of Mafia 2.
Both busted their backs for each other, and they suffered so much you’d see a mountain of bodies on each of the other’s backs.
And to realize that they’re both alive and the other doesn’t even know it- it breaks my heart.
Mind you I haven’t played a Mafia game in my life, but this is really heartbreaking.

They could make a storyline as them being old men and by chance they end up seeing each other again. Then they join forces and take over whatever city the game is set in. I don't think it will happen but it's an option.

At the end of the missions even Vito says he wasn't sure that was Joe who died which brings me to my wild opinion. The driver for Leo looked just like Joe....... the camera kept focusing on him before and after Leo got out and in the car.
Vito been through alot he went to the war he was arrested he's mom died when he was in jail he's sister doesn't know him anymore he watched henry get chopped to bits in a park he found out he's boss killed he's father he's thinks he's friend died poor vito he really does deserve better

I believe Vito's story since Joe was indeed killed by several men who betrayed him after escaping Empire Bay due to his near death experience with Leo's goons at the end of Mafia 2 ending up in Lincoln's job to wipe out the people responsible for their actions against him.
If that is Joe, the stress is really gotten to him in 43 when the game starts Vito and Joe were 18 or 19 here they should barely be 48 - 50.
By '68, Vito is 43 same with Joe.

It'd be great if that chauffeur is Joe, but won't make any sense. This is Mafia. Mafia is known to be ruthless and merciless when you break the rules. Now why would Leo spare and even hire the man whom he defined as "the price of peace agreement with the Tongs"? If that chauffeur is Joe which I really think that he isn't, then there should definitely be a DLC which tells about the process of his survival after the observatory mission.
What are you talking about? People hate this game! It was rushed so bad, you think developers are actually gonna make a sequel? No. It's not 2K games Czech, whom actually made really good Mafia 1 and 2, but it's Hangar 13, Of course, it's a branch of 2K games, but still, if 2K games Czech would've made this game, they would've probably downgraded graphics a bit, but would've put whole lot of effort in to the gameplay, story, objectives and more. The game itself had a pretty good opening scene (I actually felt like in the ending Mafia 2, at the end of Mafia 3 prologue), but everything else feels empty, repetitive, glitchy and boring. You can't change your outfit (You could do that in Mafia 2. Like c'mon it's 2016!) and Mafia 2 had a lot miscellaneous and realistic details, that actually made it a unique and different game, it differed a lot from GTA series. Hangar 13 thought, that good graphics alone, are gonna make Mafia 3 one of the most best games, they tried to shoot for GTA-type of game but overshot it. Although, 2K Games Czech assisted in making Mafia III (probably with story or something), Hangar 13 ruined it.
P.S. Developers said, that Joe's fate is gonna be revealed in Mafia III, but left us fucking wondering, is he alive or not.
+eagleofmardin Well, it kinda makes sense. Maybe Joe did something to Leo, something similar, what Vito did back in jail, that earned Leo's trust. Maybe Vito, again called in few favors or something. Joe is pretty strong muscle, he managed to escape his captors, by smashing in front teeth and cracking one of the eye sockets. Also, Joe was a pretty good shooter. So probably, he is also a bodyguard, not only chauffeur of Leo. It's just my opinion, don't start bashing.

its crap story but why did they not say anything about joe? besides the ending
This game has no soul or charm what so ever compared to previous two games
The next mafia should be one where you start off as the boss and have to make the smart decision to make sure you stay in charge
