Antonín Dvořák: The Water Goblin
Czech Student Orchestra
Conductor: Marko Ivanović
Host: Petr Kadlec
Music has enormous power to lay new landscapes before us and tell stories. One of the musical forms created especially for this purpose in the middle of the 19th century is called the symphonic poem.
Listen to it performed by the Czech Student Orchestra, which presented Dvořák's The Water Goblin with conductor Marko Ivanović and host Petr Kadlec. Recorded on 17 January 2022 by the Studio Rudolfinum.
We wish you a pleasant experience!

2:17 I loved this video. I first became acquainted with this wonderful work in 1964 when I heard it on WQXR radio in New York and immediately purchased a recording of it by Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zdenek Chalabala. It had been released by Supraphon and was available in the United States on the Artia label. Since then, I have listened to the piece thousands of times as performed by various orchestras, but I have never encountered a detailed analysis until now. Your presentation has answered a lot of questions I have had concerning the organization of the tone poem and has enhanced my enjoyment thereof. Thank you.
