I know this guy teaches lessons and for anyone reading this considering hiring him just coming from the perspective of an experienced drummer I would hire him all day over risking some shmuck at your local music store.
He knows his stuff and not that but the way he explains it is really streamlined and actually working with you one on one I can tell that he would be able to make you see a lot of progress fast
And for anyone wanting to start drumming getting a drum set is the worst thing you can do because it will just be a distraction you want to learn the basics on a snare even if you have no aspirations long term of mastering it like this guy. Once you have solid technique and stick control that’s when you go to drum set and that will make it a hell of a lot easier to go around the drum and will make it way easier to then add in a foot and then a second foot

This is so helpful. You helped me see I’m calling one of the grips I use the wrong name too. I called the German grip matched grip.

the only thing that helped me build up speed no matter how many different techniques I have tried and I've probably tried all the known ones was time and it took me years
and tapping pretty much all day and after about two or tree odd years I realized hey I think I finally got the speed I thought would never happen.
while I'm most likely an outlier for the time it takes to get there at the end of the day it takes time whether it a day or like me a few years all the technique of styles of holding the sticks won't get you there, but then again that may have just been me.
at the end of the day if you stick with it you will get there, because believe you me if I can get almost as fast as this drumming beast here anyone can and will get there if you are willing to put in the effort, it does get a lot more fun when you're no longer worried about speed.

I think it’s different for everyone people have different preferences and techniques.
Sure you can brute force your way through learning anything through sheer repetition but I think you can take shortcuts with proper technique
Part of the problem you might have had is trying to teach yourself this stuff
It’s a lot easier to sit next to someone and have them show you and make corrections until you’re doing it right so that you have good technique from the very beginning
That goes such a long way and just makes everything so much easier throughout your entire learnt journey.
The stuff that he’s showing in this video is like the pure basics so if you’re watching this and thinking they are like some advanced techniques then that right there would be what took you so long to get the speed you wanted.
The stuff that he’s showing was stuff that I learned in my first few lessons and had homework of basic stick control drills (paradiddles etc)
I know this guy teaches lessons too and for anyone reading this considering hiring him just coming from the perspective of an experienced drummer I would hire him all day over risking some shmuck at your local music store.
He knows his stuff and not that but the way he explains it is really streamlined and actually working with you one on one I can tell that he would be able to make you see a lot of progress fast

I know I’m rambling and am way off topic but I’m watching the video as I’m typing this so I’d probably be better off posting this as a new comment but oh welllol

@@matts5247 I never had a teacher but I did watch most of em probably all of em on youtube and no matter how much time I spent doing the stuff they showed I just woke up one day and it all came together.

If push pull is good for one handed speed and endurance, why can’t it be used for the single stroke roll? I’ve seen on guys like Ramon Montgarner get crazy one handed speed with it, so can’t you just interlock it with both hands? (Push on the right hand, push on the left hand, then pull on the right hand, pull on the left hand) To me it seems like it would work really well, but let me know your thoughts on this idea. Thank you!

I did some further testing, and the single stroke roll sounds fairly inconsistent when using push pull. I understand now.

Its funny, people hate on El for "overplaying" then they hate on you because you dont play on a kit. People just hate on others who are super talented because if they have flaws then maybe they arent so much better than you. Its just jealously. Keep your shit up, you kick ass at this.

After 30 years of match grip, I’m almost ready to switch to traditional for kit drumming, because Jabril’s technique is much gaster for my left hand than match.
