    Insult comedian Jack E. Leonard was the original voice of the "Postman"; in 1963, Bob McFadden became his voice (and the character was redesigned as well).

    1960's Post Alpha-Bits cereal commercial tells a story about a wacky original Postman (voiced by comedian Jack E. Leonard) who exhibits a couple of mannerisms of a friendly postman much like Britain's favorite stop motion animated tv character Postman Pat who lives in a fictional village Greendale in English countryside, finds himself getting alerted by a lot of dogs in the neighborhood, holds out the box of Post Alpha-Bits cereal which, as its title suggests, whose crispy oat cereal pieces were shaped like all the letters of the Alphabets including A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z, are coated with brown sugar frosting to make them look golden and loaded with energy, helps out lots of boys and girls and goes on several misadventures due to his wackiness.

      1961's Post Alpha-Bits cereal commercial tells a story about a cheerful, soft-spoken, kind and gentle redhaired postman with black beady eyes and an equally black bow tie named Lovable Truly who has youthful freckles on his cheeks, speaks in a Southern accent and the late Jim Nabors-type voice, is shown to be easygoing towards everyone around him at which he exhibits a couple of mannerisms of a friendly postman much like Britain's favorite stop motion animated tv character Postman Pat who lives in a fictional village Greendale in English countryside which is similar to the original Postman, spends his time being loved by lots of boys and girls and especially little dogs in the neighborhood hence his name, holds out the compact box of Post Alpha-Bits cereal which, as its title suggests, whose crispy oat cereal pieces were shaped like all the letters of the Alphabets including A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z, are coated with brown sugar frosting to make them look golden and loaded with energy, goes on several adventures in which he's shown to be nice to his friends wherever he goes.

    It is interesting how they changed the voice from a New Yorker to a rural southerner. Studies must have shown that would have had wider appeal across the US.

    Anyone else think post got some complaints about the first Postman not liking dogs and vice versa

    I used to love Alpha-Bits...until they took the sugar out. If I wanted to eat Cheerios I'd eat them-but I expected more from Alpha-Bits.
