  • Saturday 20th November, Vintage trains ran 2 round trips Tyseley to Worcester Shrub Hill, which included a trip up the famous Lickey Incline in Bromsgrove. The locos in action was 7029 'Clun Castle' on the morning train. Then 6233 'Duchess Of Sutherland' on the afternoon train.
The morning started off at Droitwich Spa Station, with the dull day and no sun about. The station seemed a good starter with the Castle coming through Droitwich, the semaphore signals and also the stations Signal box add to the scene nicely. It was then a trip to Worcester to get the turning move to Henwick. We see the Castle on its way back to Shrub Hill crossing the River Severn and over the viaduct that leads to Foregate Street. Note the Class 20 on the back, which had previously took the train to Henwick for the turning move. After this runpast. it was a trip to the Lickey Incline to see the Castle tackle the 1 in 37.7 climb. This lasting for a distance of 2 miles. The Castle had a load of 6 on and took no prisoners on the climb. This is probably the loudest runpast I've ever seen on the Lickey. TURN THE VOLUME UP FOR THIS.
Then the afternoon run with 6233 took place, with the arrival of the some unexpected blue skies. The sun tried to appear for the first shot of the Duchess at Ladywood foot crossing. Camcorder and GoPro shots are used at this location. After then missing the turning move at Foregate Street due to an earlier than expected movement. I then headed straight to Bromsgrove Station. A couple of weeks ago, I did the same loco at the same station. But this time I went for a different angle. Please note I am stood in a position of safety for this and behind a fence that is on the end of the platform. This run through the station of the Duchess was something else and was very impressive on its climb up the Lickey.
Not a bad day though, with the trains sold out and the lineside the busiest I've seen in a long time. It was worth going out to video, despite the dull weather. Plus with all of this on my doorstep as I only live in Droitwich. I'd be a fool to stay at home.

Thanks Michael, it’s one of my favourites as well. Loco was working well and a different view you don’t always see. 👍🏻

Fantastic lighting at Ladywood, and a great assault of the Lickey Bank by 7029. Regards, Dan

Thanks Dan. 2 minutes after it was full sun and we were doing the traditional walking back to the car in sunshine. But after the lighting we got in the morning. I’ll take it 😂 7029 on the Lickey was something else 👍🏻

A good choice of locations Matt. The sound from the Castle is excellent up the Lickey but the Duchess at speed passed Ladywood is excellent, the going away glint in particular. Well done.

Splendid stuff. 👍🏿 May I ask what type of camcorder you use? I'm considering getting one, so am interested to see what other people use.

Thank you Ron. I use the Sony Z1 camcorder. It’s about 5 years old, but still does the job. Good luck with that camcorder purchase. Look at reviews and shop around and hopefully you’ll purchase the right one. 👍🏻

@@steamvalleyproductions Well, you're getting some splendid results with it. I mostly use my Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 bridge camera as its 1 inch sensor and Leica lens takes some beating. But it's still a bit of a compromise as it's basically a stills camera that can also take video, so not as versatile as a proper camcorder that's designed for the job. Anyway, I shall continue to ponder...

1st time I've seen DoS' wick turned up for a while ... and ... no cylinder drain weeps!!
    Chance, coincidence, or resolved?
