Wow, this brings back memories. I bought this on VHS when it first came out, and played it while riding my rollers until it wore out. Thanks for posting!
these newbs probably couldn't handle some the races with acid house as the soundtrack as happens on most of my early tapes from the late 80's and early 9o's. Just as crucial as the horizontal top tubes and skinny tubing.
Listening to Phil Liggett i feel very much at home, if you know what i mean. Grown up hearing his voice on the cycling coverage i watched as a kid. #LoveCycling
Showed this on French TV at the weekend, L'Equipe channel 21. I can now listen to the English commentary of Phil Liggett to a good quality recording :) Dam music though, christ
7:10 Notice how in those days the riders used to be able to ride beside the road in parts of the Arenberg section, but nowadays they put up barriers to force them to stay on to the nasty cobbles!
Great video, and its interesting to see the evolution of technology, a lot of the bikes have all the controls for gears and brakes on the handle bars, some look awkward with cables all over the place, but this race probably wasn't about aerodynamics'? also in addition the clip less pedal concept is well embraced at this era, but its great to see steel frames being used for this application, rather than the over priced plastic SHITE , that are being ridden now.
Not a cyclist, eh? They’re mostly using downtube shifters and the brake handles are exactly where they’ve always been. The only real change after this is the shifters moving into the brake levers with Shimano STI and Campagnolo Ergo; and the cables are better placed, with many running on the bars now.
@@keirfarnum6811 Are you just replying for the sake of argument, trying to be cute? READ MY WORDS! "A LOT OF THE BIKES!" thats what it says !, illiterate Eh ? if you are resorting to insults.
Indexed and indeed friction down tube shifters were superior in shifting terms than those early integrated units, they were clonky AF but obviously they did allow you to keep your hands on the hoods on the rough stuff. In many regards a set of Suntour Command shifters could have been better instead of the early STIs, it wasn't until Campags 8speed Ergos did we get decent shifting, they were an absolute mile ahead of the Dura Ace 8 speed STIs
@@tonyfranklin8306 I had Shimano indexed downtube shifters on my cheap Trek road bike (I was a mountain biker back then and my MTB ate up all my money), but I preferred using them in friction mode. With hypergrind, I could make almost silent shifts so no one could tell when I was changing gears to stomp on it and go. Very handy!
sembra facile. Duclos era una vecchissima volpe. Ballerini per staccarlo doveva fare un fuorigiri che avrebbe rischiato di pagare. mentre se si metteva a ruota Duclos avrebbe fatto il morto visto che non aveva nulla da perdere

The music sounds like it was composed and played by some drunk in a kipper tie and purple y fronts on a Casio ..atrocious doesn’t come close ..at least it shows Phil has the same understanding of people with hearing difficulties than he had of doping ...nice guy just a tad naive ...and why should we have to turn it down just for the piss poor soundtrack ..love him or hate him he knows the sport inside out so is worth hearing ..that’s my point ..
Yeah. It was John Tesh’s music and they always turn it up to showcase the “drama.” Drives me nuts! It’s awful stuff. I hated it back then just as much as now.
After 260 kms of cobbles, dust, wind and so many other things that makes sense of that race is known as 'hell of the north ' is understandable one can make a mistake like this.
The riders wouldn’t be as fast without the cars and motorcycles. Even when they don’t drive right in front of the riders, they do get a draft effect; as studies have shown.
@@keirfarnum6811 - I think you'll find that drafting team cars and motorcycles is not an allowable practice and doesn't happen all that often. Besides, those two entities have shown themselves far more a hindrance than any benefit as far as drafting goes.
I remember watching this in college 30 years agi. I dig the melodramatic background music! What a great show, thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Loving the music. Real 93 feel.
@TONY DPHAX KING Speak for yourself. Music is fucking great. And how the hell do you know if Phil likes it or not?

Were you riding rollers with a forkstand or all out unassisted? I would not want to watch this on my Kreietlers without a forkstand.
@@ralphc1405 Yeah, I used the forkstand. I'm not good enough at riding rollers while watching videos not to risk falling off! 😅
Watching procycling while riding rollers is great. You pretend you are in the race
The original old school music is the best thing about these old vids :D
some of early ones have classic acid house tracks thoughout, I have the dvd's on my shelf.
I think the music is cheesy. But I hated this stuff back then too.
This music is good, it captures the time and there is nothing wrong with it, mute it if you don't like it.

all the newb's complaining about the music, when the music is just as atmospheric and crucial as horizontal top tubes, reynolds tubing and casquettes.
I’m not a newbie and I hate the “musique.”
@@keirfarnum6811 The 'muzak' is what made the old videos from World Cycling Videos so memorable!
That, and Phil's Commentary.
Music from that era + top tier commentary = 👍🏻
Came for Paris Roubaix 93' Stayed for the music.
Love the music.

Nice Recording for a video in that era, Thanks!
Top competitors were older in those days.

The cobbles just happen to be the whole point...
Is there *any* way to watch this without the music? It's quaint at first but an hour and a half of it...
Minuto 49:52 Franco decide di mostrare al mondo cos'è il coraggio e cos'è il vero ciclismo! Grazie per queste indimenticabili emozioni!!!
Great race. Just didn't remember who bad picture quality was some 30 years ago, and who thought having background music was a good idea.
I wanna dance!

To be honest I like the music.
Glad they have barriers up now so you cant miss out the cobbles on the Arenberg
I don't believe cycling and 70's porn music are a good match.
Good for a laugh though....
Didn't hear any 70s music
This isn’t 70s “porn music” at all. I can tell you’re young.
a vedere Ballerini andare via in quel modo portandosi dietro quel peso scomodo di GIbus.. mi sono commosso
why the music????????????
bom trabalho... brutal : opssss afnal ... nã ganhei....
no ducking the cobbles these days
Dur course
The background music is irritating
The background music is so bad that I had to mute the whole thing before going crazy.
Van der Pool máquina
The winer is Duclos lasalle¡¡¡¡.....Looking fhoto Finish¡¡¡¡¡¡¡....
Adrie Van der Poel. 33, Joins Italian team...."new legs"....and a new doctor, of course.
winston cat I met Adrie at the cx world championship in Leeds, brilliant rider and nice guy. His son is just like him.
I'm sorry but the music makes it unwatchable
File this under "premature celebration".
I notice that the cyclists have downtube shifters. This was the last time. In 1994 Paris Roubaix, everyone had STI shifters.

Maybe do a cut down version of this. 1 1/2 hour is a bit over the top for me.
This is the cutdown version they skipped the first couple hours :^)

Balarini must of felt a total idiot. Celebrating before you know the result when its that close is an amateurs mistake. Great Duclo won again. 😁
