    The couch arrived in two boxes four days early, which was great because we'd just moved into a new house and needed places to sit. My son and I put it together pretty quickly czcams.com/users/postUgkxitRzxya-XugamYgLwa_2G1gxPg4MCJHa . Another reviewer suggested inserting the seat into the side and I'm glad they did as the instructions weren't clear on that matter. It's incredibly light and slides easily across the wood floor, making it easy to move. It's firm, but comfortable. It will even be great to nap on. I got the gray, which definitely has strong blue undertones, but I'm okay with that.

    It will make your bolt fly much straight and more stability.For the arrowhead..try attaching a dart head.Hope this helps.

    Change out the PVC pipe bow for one leaf spring from a small car ( tried a leaf from a truck --way too stiff ) use 1/8 inch guy wire and 1/4 - 5/16 inch steel round stock for arrows. they will go through a stop sign from 50 feet away.

    • @Bulsh1tMan
      @Bulsh1tMan Před 9 lety +4

      ***** I used some fiberglass fencing tension bars from home depot to make a 30 inch laminate prod for mine. 120 pounds at a 9 inch stroke. $10 for the two bars I used, and I like how its light compare to a steel spring or pvc pipe, plus I can add poundage by adding more bars (kept it at 120 pounds on account of a weak nut). Cut with hacksaw, wear gloves if you don't want glass splinters in your skin.

    • @Bulsh1tMan
      @Bulsh1tMan Před 9 lety

      ***** You sure? The tension bars are for those common hex-wire fences they use on baseball diamonds and yard fences. Check the fencing aisle at the hardware store, I didn't know they had that stuff until someone show it being used on the Arbalist forum.

    Very simple release mechanism. The advantage to simple mechanisms is there is less to go wrong, and it's generally easier to fix if it does. Nice build. Good vid.

  • @robertcorbell1006
    @robertcorbell1006 Před 8 lety +4

    I love the mechanism, reminds me of a Montagnard crossbow from the Vietnam war era or a Congolese one. However a clothes pin would have been equally effective with the bottom part taped or glued down. In the countries I mentioned, they simply cut the groove bigger and tie a loop of string around the lever while pivoting on the side of the dominant hand.

    • @TSPhotoAtlanta
      @TSPhotoAtlanta Před 2 lety +1

      Your comment invokes some interesting notions, but I can't quite picture how to use a clothespin, nor to what end -- for the trigger? I had no idea that Montagnards used crossbows, not persons in the Congo. The field of interest expands. As a first ever look at the topic, maybe not so informative! Good for a basement project....

    • @robertcorbell1006
      @robertcorbell1006 Před 2 lety

      @@TSPhotoAtlanta You recess a cut section into the back of the groove so that the clothespin's top part pushes the string up, all while the bottom half is mounted down. The Montagnards learned about crossbows from the Chinese in ancient times, in the 300s B.C. Meanwhile, the Congolese learned about them from the Portuguese in the late 1400s and early 1500s.

    I make crossbows using a 2x4 and conform it like you would a rifle stock blank. Take a car leaf spring and cut it for the bow. I use actual triggers from a rifle and the bow string catches on the upper portion so when you pull the trigger rearward the upper part tilts forward just like in the rifle and the string is released. With a wing not the bow can be quickly removed for storage or transport.

      Gentlemens Edge Sir I don't know what car they came off of, the junk yard I pick them up from has them pulled out and in a pile. What I look for is one around 2 inched wide max and I cut it to length. I make the length of the bow the same as the length of the stock. I have seen bows with shorter and longer but this calculation has worked well for me so far.

      @gentlemensedge5503 Před 9 lety

    • @MrAzrancher
      @MrAzrancher Před 9 lety

      Gentlemens Edge In case it helps dept.: When I cut the bow to size I rounded them, then cut the notches for the bow string, smoothed them with a file and then used wet leather strips to cover the ends about 2 inches inward. The leather dries hard and protects the bow string from damage rubbing against the bare metal. Some trial and error results. Good Luck Sir...!

      @@JustinWalker951 you can make one that would be legal you'll just have to buy the bow online because you don't want to fuck around with that much draw weight on something homemade then take a large solid board and route a rail for your bolts, look up roller nut trigger crossbow, use the roller nut design and for your safety mechanism have a hole drilled underneath the trigger part not the nut part, have a solid metal pin go into the hole that you drilled making it impossible to fire unless you remove the pin and pull the trigger I've actually done this before and it works really well and is super simple to make

    Nice crossbow. Advice to add though: if you make a string out of archery (dacron) string using a archery string making jig, used to make your string the appropriate length to fit your bows limbs, you can massively improve that crossbows fps (Feet Per Second) Speeds. Archery strings are as important to the bow as any other part of the bow. A well made string yields a LONGER life span of your bows limbs. Dacron archery strings have immense tensile strength with minimal stretching over a long period of time. Best archery string Period.

      English longbow was best for its time and that was fucking giant. There is still a medieval law that sates every young boy has to practice archery but no one does.

    It looks very good,
    But you should try making one out of a car leaf spring as I did many years back at age about 15, Pull was possibly over 200 lbs, It would sink a 6 inch bold at 50 feet completely into any stump
    Strings lasted about 6 shots if I recall,
    I never did try range, But definitely it put the bolt out f sight and we never did hear anything come down,
    It is a good guess it could shoot over 1/2 mile easily.

    that is not a longbow by any definition. it is neither: very long from nock to nock, able to draw to a rear of check/ear lobe anchored draw, nor capable of firing at a long range. any or all of these (most typically the range) are how a LONG bow are defined.
