Horn sounds as good as before, but without Linda Allan & Debi Doss the whole song sounds incomplete imo. Linda's voice was distinctive every time the song was performed live, RIP.
The Princes Trust in 2004 was the first time that this song was ever played live since it was first recorded in the studio.

The song is from 1979 but with the music (the use of the synthesizer) and with the lyrics (about the videos that were just born) anticipates the 80s. But the music and the radio, were no destroied from the videos, but from the technology and computers that introduced autotune, correction of any small errors in the recording room) etc.
One of the best versions.

It isn't bad, but it's pretty crazy at just how much of a difference the backup singers can make. It definitely doesn't sound the same without Debi Doss and Linda Allan.
these 3 singers are totally awesome though! I think it's really interesting the way their american accent shifts the emphasis from the word video to the word star. "Star" with a hard r instead of "stahhhh."
the little differences like that are what make it a spontaneous live performance.
It’s not just the singers. The tempo changed, the main lead vocal is not mixed to be front centre… it sounds awful in my opinion!

Trevor is an outstanding musician! His talent is far and beyond most. For some reason this arrangement sounds much slower and with less energy. Very sad to hear about Linda. Her and Debi helped make this song magical. The backup vocalists on this version had tough shoes to fill but they all did a very good job.

I didn’t realize what Allen gave to the song, I was watching the 2004 version and her interlude makes the song. It was so good to see her singing in the 2004 version, I felt there was a back story to it, not realizing she had passed on . Seeing her singing 25 years after the release just felt very right! I envision a story about her a back up singer , her story about the song something like that

Can't hear Creme's guitar...it's too far down in the mix...and I'm not sure there was an acoustic guitar on the original. It's so far down in the mix here he might just as well be having a cup of tea.

True, but that was like 10 years before this performance
true that. hate to say it, but we all get old. and tired. and he sounds like it. also, the princes trust venue probably had better equipment, engineers and sound guys and such.
@@richardornelas2319 You're not wrong, but it should also be mentioned that there were at least three times as many musicians on stage for the 2004 performance. There was even a string section, for goodness sake. It's harder for 8 players / singers to sound 'lush' than 20-odd.

+ptrres In this version, there was a new short verse added that was not in the original version. Between 2:51 and 3:05, I hear "Video killed the radio star. He hit him on the head with his own guitar. He tried to run away but didn't get far. That's how video killed the radio star."
Also, regarding the lyrics that begins at 2:22, you posted "Look I"ll play with my VCR", but I hear "Put the blame on VCR".
