the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy itself has outsold the Encyclopedia Galactica because it is slightly cheaper, and because it has the words "DON'T PANIC" in large, friendly letters on the cover.
However, the Encyclopaedia Galactica did correctly identify the Marketing Division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came."
IMO, this is the best version of all the versions (of Journey of the Sorcery) created for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. But in an infinite universe, there are an infinite number of mixes for this theme.
It's funny, I was watching history of the Eagles on Netflix and I heard this. I knew that I knew it from somewhere but couldn't place it, I was positive it wasn't an Eagles song because it sounds so different to most of what they produced! Anyway after like an hour of hard searching I found this!
Oh dear >,> Came to see what the intro was like because I'd forgotten. Now I know, like everything about this show, it's a pale reflection of the radio series.
+Bl4ckDr4gonTV We do and will! The internet gives us access to everything, and the modern movie created a wave of new fans who read the books and love the old show. :)
OFMG i actually recorded this theme tune from this exact same episode on to a cassette tape as i wanted a copy of this music. i salute you sir, truly, great minds think alike!
When my dad introduced me to this he also introduced me to a restaurant called Tennessee BBQ, it's hard for me to separate the two, both have such a heavy 80's aura
And before I never knew that was a thing, I had that track on a cassette 'best of' (as we all used to do), because Spotify didn't exist then. *THEN* I read/watched/listened-to the HHGTTG, and that song became part of my history. I think I got the Radio-4 version first, then found the books. Never really bothered with the TV version.
It sounds nothing like The Eagles! Its never on their best-of releases either.. do Eagles fans even know this song? Such a great choice for a sci-fi theme tune.. amazing.
I had this theme pop up in my head about a month ago and couldnt remember what is was from for the life of me, It popped in my head again today and I just suddenly remembered XD
Happy Birthday 4️⃣2️⃣ #hitchhikersguidetothegalaxy to One of the BEST COMEDY BOOK of All TIME 🎊🎂🎈🎁🎉 Ive Be Working on a Adaptation that an Animation series so I could Explore the World of HGTTG, I even thought of doing where It just Arthur and Ford on Silly Adventure with Ford helping out Arthur on how to be a Hitchhiker as well of Exploring the Universe, way before they get on the Golden Ship. Hope it Come Reality One Day
Actually I rather enjoyed it, Very good fresh view! No what I meant is many people hosting the original 80's theme say fit to "Add" to it. putting in 'lyrics' or 'jazzing it up' or even putting in their "own better" theme music...' that sort of silliness.
@elJacomo95 I've got all five of the "trilogy" in one volume, thank you SciFi Book Club! There was a terrible silence. There was a terrible noise. There was a terrible silence.
YOU DONT need to be a scientist to enjoy this gem (speaking about me of course)Love the theme and series which i have on dvd, totally fantastic! was it really 1981? god time flies .
I'ld love to see a remake with the means of a production like penny dreadful and with as capable writers... it could be so great if done propperly. say 50 episodes or so :)
@nanohurtz The movie had many flaws, but it was far from 'unimaginative, shallow, and insipid'. Douglas Adams' screenplay was very well constructed, the overall aesthetic was pretty good (a mixture of sleek cgi to make it fit in today, and old-school puppetry, which is a forgotten art), and the movie got the characters of Zaphod and the Vogons much better than the tv series did. Not to mention Stephen Fry's amazing turn as The Book. And Trillian was slightly less annoying in the movie.
Remakes and adaptations are hardly a new phenomenon, some of the greatest "vintage" films ever made like Gone with the Wind and Dracula are based on books. I've read A Princess of Mars and loved John Carter and to be fair, although there were some things that bugged me, the Hitchhikers movie was respectful to the source material and was very well made. Also don't forget that the TV series was an adaptation of the books that inturn were adapted from the radio series and Adams wrote the screenplay
Isso, precisava ler isso, convivo todo dia com pessoas que não possuem conhecimento sobre quem foi Buck Rogers, Arthur Dent ou o Doutor e se acham nerds.
@videogamenostalgia I agree. I think the first half of the movie was great, then it went downhill rapidly. Steven Fry is, as you say, fantastic - perhaps the only person that could rival the great Peter Jones. For reasons of personal nostalgia, the TV series will always be the best for me (because it's how I got to know H2G2) but the movie was a pretty good effort. I'd love them to have another go, but with a proper ending this time.

I personally prefer 'Where God Went Wrong'. Or perhaps '50 More Things to do in Zero Gravity'.
@@themightyduck562 nah, "Who Is This God Fellow Anyway" is much better
the awnser to life is 42
I like the cover. It's the first helpful or intelligent thing anyone's said to me all day.
Perfect theme tune! Really captures both the loneliness of the last man from Earth, and the wonder of the infinite beyond.
Really?? It's a pretty upbeat and joyfull tune and you go "captures both the loneliness of last man from Earth...." ok numbnuts.
still bopping in 2023!!!
Earth: Harmless
Edit: Earth: Mostly Harmless
I love the theme song. It fun without being too heavy.
It's part of an Eagles song from the mid 70s. Yeah - I know...
@@johnspooner1403 journey of the sorcerer I believe
I could listen to this song 100 times everyday and even then it would never get old!
So nostalgic. My dad showed this series to me as a kid, and it was amazing. Even now, 10 years later, it’s still amazing and I love it.
Same with me. Well I don’t know how many years ago I saw it but still. The only problem I had was with the ending. It felt a little anticlimactic.
Oh my god. This theme tune does something wonderful to me. Pure class.
10 people panicked
Surely the best version 😀
6 people forgot their towels...
15 now
the mighty duck 14 now. Someone found theirs
*Jacob Pullen* 15 again
17 now, maybe there should be a towel returning service?
Give them Vogon poetry to read.
Love this show 😊
they need to do a parady of the Hitchhiker (arthur dent) meeting the Doctor.
Apparently, The 10th Doctor actually did meet Arthur Dent. Apparently, they got on very well.
Something I need to see! 😍
"Ford, you hoopy frood! I see you still know where your towel is!" "Hello, Doctor, the new looks suits you."
Somone made an hitchhikers guide to The galaxy entry om daleks it is pure raw quality
@@CyberLink70 of course 10 would be the one who gets along the most with Arthur
i enjoy it, and i was born in 2004. well, actually, screw enjoying it, i'm in LOVE with it
born in 2002 and listened to this when I was seven. I get more of the jokes now.
IMO, this is the best version of all the versions (of Journey of the Sorcery) created for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. But in an infinite universe, there are an infinite number of mixes for this theme.
DON'T PANIC!
The way they did the words reminds me so much of MST3K.
I love ALL versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide! IT NEVER GETS OLD.... in any way, shape or form!
Only today did I discover this is a re working of an eagles track. how awesome.
It's funny, I was watching history of the Eagles on Netflix and I heard this. I knew that I knew it from somewhere but couldn't place it, I was positive it wasn't an Eagles song because it sounds so different to most of what they produced! Anyway after like an hour of hard searching I found this!
I am really happy to have found this on dvd.
Jouney of the sorcerer is one of the most underrated eagles song in my opinion...
Oh dear >,>
Came to see what the intro was like because I'd forgotten. Now I know, like everything about this show, it's a pale reflection of the radio series.
Oh fuck off
This tv series was of a far better quality than the more recent movie.
THANK YOU THIS IS THE ORGINAL IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR
..and some forgot to eat peanuts and drink up some beers.
Thanks for posting.
ALL HAIL the theme of epic nerdiness!
YUS! :P
Ahhh memories........classic stuff
I forgive you for beating on Rihanna .
I think she's annoying too 😉
HAPPY 42ND ANNIVERSARY!! :)
Best Mini TV Show.
Mostly harmless
YES! FINALLY! Finally I have found an unaltered, un' updated' unmolested version of the original TV-Intro form the 80's THANK YOU!!!
I watched the series when it was released in 1981. I was 13 at the time. Even to this day I can replay the theme music in my head.
By far my favorite theme song of all time!
a shame that the newer generation wont enjoy this wunderful series. My father brought me here
Me too. totally agree with you.
+Bl4ckDr4gonTV We do and will! The internet gives us access to everything, and the modern movie created a wave of new fans who read the books and love the old show. :)
I read the books
It was my father who led me to science fiction.
it's not like the books, TV series, etc have stopped existing
love love love love the BBC version of Hitchhikers...
I watched the series on Netflix last summer. Best week ever.
OFMG i actually recorded this theme tune from this exact same episode on to a cassette tape as i wanted a copy of this music. i salute you sir, truly, great minds think alike!
The Eagles have their towels!
Great theme.
When my dad introduced me to this he also introduced me to a restaurant called Tennessee BBQ, it's hard for me to separate the two, both have such a heavy 80's aura
The 1981 version of this song is my favorite, I wish we had the full version of this because I love the synth sound
The Cringe Lord Right on.
And before I never knew that was a thing, I had that track on a cassette 'best of' (as we all used to do), because Spotify didn't exist then.

❤agreed
My friends and I loved this as a radio show long ago, before we got into drugs and alcohol.
It was the former that led you to the latter, yes?
Strange! But your shirt is dry and doesn’t smell
Thank you Bernie Leadon one of the founder members of the eagles for this wonderful music.
It sounds nothing like The Eagles! Its never on their best-of releases either.. do Eagles fans even know this song?
Such a great choice for a sci-fi theme tune.. amazing.
Am I the only one who likes old, low-quality music and video better?
I had this theme pop up in my head about a month ago and couldnt remember what is was from for the life of me, It popped in my head again today and I just suddenly remembered XD
DON'T PANIC!!!
Who would dislike this???
No one. It is the like button for Australia.
FINALLY! damn remakes!
Yesssssss
ZERO dislikes. That's the way it should stay!
I just started watching this to prepare for the rest of the books (I read the first a while ago but i dont want to read it again) and it is epic
The mists of what? Far back in the mists of what?! God, you're killing me here!
(I'm kidding, obviously.)
they should roll it again in the television, so it could be recorded with (slightly) better digital to digital conversion :)
This theme is what "love" sounds like.

I always listen to this before reading a chapter of The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
My thoughts exactly
Actually I rather enjoyed it, Very good fresh view!

that sort of silliness.
The synth sounds like the same kind they used on Thomas & Friends.
classic
@elJacomo95 I also suggest the original radio series as well - some of the cast from it returned for the TV series.
7 vogons disprove of this video
+waterlubber its still only 7 XD Wait maybe it's the construction crew
+waterlubber Only after filling the correct form
+vjpearce And after that form was buried in soft peat for 3 months, and recycled as fire lighters.
+George Reid Did not follow instructions, got puked on by a Vogon.
Make that 7 13

There was a terrible silence.
There was a terrible noise.
There was a terrible silence.
The BBC had a cover version of the original Eagles song made so they wouldn't have to pay full royalties for it's use.
I want to make this my start up noise so badly!
