    I wouldn't worry too much about battery vs mains power. Either way the amp is still receiving 9 volts DC.
    You should use the last set of pins for negative (ground) and leave the middle set unused. That way if you ever connected a speaker using a stereo cable (unlikely) the negative wire would still be in the right place, the sleeve.

    This worked like a charm, thank you! Used my Katana Mini + Harvey Benton G112 Vintage. I did follow Angus Black's tip of using the last set of pins for black, which works well and makes the hack more universally compatible. Cheers!

      @@heavyfeitus870 you should be able to find it in the comments under the video. He advised using the last set of pins for the ground (negative) and leaving the middle set of pins unused. That makes the build compatible with stereo jack cables, in case you ever use one to plug your guitar in. Hope that helps!

    Just for kicks I'd love to hear the Katana Mini go through the Artists speaker for an interesting comparison. No soldering required just connect up to the spade terminals with a jack socket the other end.
    Really interesting mod. I've been thinking about buying a Katana mini for the bench for testing (and time passing when I've had enough of fret polishing for a while) but this would be a cracking upgrade if I could buy a smallish cab for the corner of the room. Cheers!

    Hi, great videos! :-) I have a MkI 100 212, and I was hoping that you could do a video where you could show how to do a mod so that one could both use the amp as a head with an external cab, as well as using the the internal cab with an external head, preferably by adding jacks to the real panel beside the existing ones. In my opinion the MkI's sound better than the MkII's. I also have the MkI 50, and if there is a way to add a FX-loop to the rear panel in a similar way with jacks, that'd be a world of help. The MkI 50 - given that one tweak it so that it sounds right because right out of the box it really does not - might be the best amp of all time, considering versatility, sound, portability, and plain powerful headroom. Cheers! :-)

      Yeah! I love them 2! I use Celestion V-types live for a bit more High end. They sound a lot like greenbacks, but they cut just a little bit more frequency wise. With my torpedo 2 notes stuff I always use a regular greenback cab! And also cool to look at is the Neolight Creamback Celestions if you're gigging! They sound like greenbacks (if not slightly better), they can handle 65 or more watts (I think), but the best thing is that they only weigh 1,5 KG!

    There is no reason not to run this off mains, your switching power supply is going to be supplying the same DC voltages to the amp as the batteries and there are no mains voltages going on in the katana, and by the time you get to the audio output you are not going to be seeing DC either just the audio signal. This is a safe mod.

    My Katana mini has headphones output. Doesn't it work the same as the mod?

    • @Fatherflot64
      @Fatherflot64 Před 2 lety

      That can't drive a speaker coil, only a headphone driver. I have a Tech 21 Deuce Deluxe powered cab -- so it can take any signal, like a headphone out and amplify it with its own power. I'm sure it would work great with the Katana mini --- and no mod needed.
      But I can get such great sounds out of the Joyo American Sound or AC Tone pedal ($25 each) through the Deuce Deluxe, that I don't need the Katana. . . .

    • @YimboSlyce

    • @kcapkcans
      @kcapkcans Před 5 lety

    Now the katana air can be got for 250 pound I'm going to get one as I love the Bluetooth control of amp and sleep to on wireless
    I'm going to mod it to take a single 10 inch speaker when I want it loud will just buy a cabinet and connect it up was going to keep it stereo but to me amps in the room should be mono
    Just going to interrupt the 2 air stereo speaker outputs and mono them into jack plug into a cab was going to use my 12 inch Hughes and Kettnercombo as a cabinet but 12 inch may be too much loudness to get speaker vibrating properly
    8 or 10 inch may be better as I think that katana air sound isn't as good as vox or thr but I think it's the little plastic box and poor speakers although handy to keep for low volume
    There is enough control in airs app to get frequency balance good I think through a single good speaker
    I would retain all of the airs brilliant wireless and Bluetooth use along with all the effects but in a bigger bassier sound poss a celeston something rich sounding
    May be my perfect amp
