I never heard of this gentleman before he is jazz and classical together what a great combination I give this piece a 10+ excellent musician playing with him.
We saw Ahmad perform at Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit--late 60s, early 70s. In 2014, he was still the coolest of cats.
Ahmad has been around since the late 50's when I first discovered this genius on the keys, reinventing himself with every performance!! Always unique and an inspiration to keep outdoing and growing as he says 'learn something new every day'....this guy is SO TALENTED and NEVER REPEATS himself...absolutely brilliant!
Years ago I took care of his 2 Concert Grands. He lives around the corner from my shop in Taconic Ct. He's a wonderful Musician.

The album ‘One’ was my first introduction to both Ahmad Jamal and real jazz back in 1978 when I was 14. Never once looked back. Phenomenal.
ahah ah same here about Ahmal but i was a bit older - one of Miles Davis favorite piano player - also because Ahmad never stayed stucked on old jazz music which still remains amazing music after all.
My first intro. To Ahmad was in a small venue in Denver, CO. A small club on Colfax. This was in late 60's ..my college years. It started my journey of wonderful jazz.

First heard Mr. Jamal in early 80's. His unique style impressed me. Fast forward to today and he just got better.

I wish I had timing down so well, I could literally just watch the bass player play like "Damn, he's pretty good" and just jump right back into the song like it was effortless. Crazy Talent.

A real magician of keys
The tumbas are Latin Percussion Giovanni Hidalgo Galaxy tumbas. It is hard to tell which sizes he has, but it looks and sounds as if he has the requinto and quinto. (Usually, if a player has two, they are quinto and conga.) I have all four that they make in this range: requinto, quinto, conga and tumbadora. LP stuff is great. Odd, perhaps, because I am mainly a reed player.
