Predators generally do not fight each other without very good reasons. There's no percentage in sustaining an injury, as that might make future hunting or keeping up with the pack difficult. But feints and displays of aggression are common.
Another myth. They have no awareness about getting injured. They try to fight n back off when they feel the power of the other predator. Its just using your sense as a being, everything does it.
@@akderekx I didn’t mean they literally reason it out. It’s likely more as you describe. But they know which other animals are prey and which are not. People who go on safari in Africa expecting to see epic battles between predator species are going to be disappointed. If they see a kill at all (also unlikely), it’ll probably be of a prey species. What’s a lot more common when predators meet is what we saw in this case: feint charges, wary circling, and displays of power. Even if there is a fight, it generally ends when one just runs away.
@@theophrastus3.056 agreed, wolves probably see the bear as a big weasel or ferret or rat; which is what they're used to eating. Yet they can hardly wrap their jaws around the limbs of him. @@SupremeSpicey6976 There’s some videos of how coyotes first reacted to wolves being reintroduced to Yellowstone. Their numbers fell until they realized that encounters with wolves often meant a severe injury or death. But now they just avoid their larger canine cousins. You might steal some scraps from a bear when he’s facing away. But a wolf will run down a coyote to retrieve what’s theirs.
Naturally, that reluctance to fight doesn’t apply in all cases. Lions in Africa of both sexes will go after any painted dogs they encounter. But only male lions will generally go after the larger hyenas. Hyenas who are alone are wary of male leopards. But they’ll immediately charge a female to snatch a kill.
The animals know the differences, and in some cases, like Yellowstone’s inexperienced coyotes, they learn it the hard way. But, yes, it’s not using reasoning like a human, as you pointed out. It’s more instinct and a visceral reaction.

@@samo6083 What is truly less than impressive is the fact that you seem to be triggered enough to reply (to a reply), of which you had ZERO involvement, which I said nothing at all about as it relates to the content of the video.
I simply properly stated the amount of wolves visible in the frames.
Maybe you should rant to the OP?
Or, get a life???
But, based on looking at your bio, I see you have no life.
Therefore, you have plenty of time to hijack a comment thread.
I'm certain you are the expert you claim to be.
@@fishohio5482 Well this is a little awkward...
Nice little paragraph you wrote there but I wasn't talking to you 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bird flew in like “don’t worry Teddy, I got your back buddy”
That bird is just watching happily 🤣
We have a saying in Turkish: "They ask the bear why the nape of your neck is so thick, and s/he answers, because I handle my business on my own." Means that s/he is so strong and confident that s/he alone can handle anything and everyhing in the wilderness whether rivals come in dozens or hundreds. This video is definitely solid proof to that.
Bear are so dangrous and smart animel .....They not leave anything come in their way lion tiger humen .
The Calm and Collectiveness of the Bear in a situation like this is truly a sight to behold. The Wolves could sense that and thats why they left.
nah those wolves could have easily killed that bear, how ever that bear would Have killed or injured at least one of the wolves (in a direct attack) so they left.
@@smartmonkey777 No shit, Sherlock. The risk to the pack was too great hence why they left.
@@smartmonkey777 one paw strike per wolf body thats all it takes meanwhile those wolf cant even get through his skin and fur
@@mrclutchy420 A nip here a bite there, wear the bear down over time and after bear has no more energy the wolves finish bear. one bear cannot out last a pack of wolves. these wolves wanted the carcass, perhaps it was the packs earlier kill? either way it was not worth this packs time.
Damn 13 against one and he/she still held it down like a boss!
O m'gosh...people, shoosh! Take a moment (or ten minutes) of your life to be still, and know...the beauty & blessings of Creation.
This was an amazing sight! Thank you for the view into the wild.
Those wolves look very healthy and it amazes me they left the single bear to their kill with the entire pack to back them up! Goes to show a grizzly bear is no slouch for sure!
A wolverine would just walk in like nobody was there and eat what he wanted and leave 😂
No, not necessarily. I've read about a mother bear whose cubs got squirted (you know, that stinking stuff from the anal gland that sticks for very long. It is related to the skunks.), by a wolverine which she, in fury tore to pieces.
Only MAN is superior to the Grizzly...the bear would rip the wolverine (an oversized skunk) into 3 pieces....
@@arisdelis1 Siberian Tigers fight and sometimes kill bears in Asia, they are basically on the same Tier. Plus I think elephants, rhinos, and Hippos might give Grizzlies a run for their money too
2:05 that wolf off to the far right like “fuck that shit” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Grizzly stood it's ground, and enjoyed his spoils!
Very experienced bear it's seen this trick before those wolves are experienced as well they don't really want to fight with the bear they know that's not a good option even though they outnumbered the bear they were really trying to corral the bear and get it to leave its meal to chase them so they could steal the catch they do this often but they saw this bear 🐻 was not falling for it so they saw best to move on. Bear buried it's prey in case it had to fight it will unbury and resume eating in peace when they finally all disperse completely.
Reginald Rutledge Kevin mannnn. Thats what I was hoping. But I have no clue about bears or wolves. We have fox’s here their our biggest predator. (Uk)
Yeah, like they could just snatch up an Elk in their jaws real quick and sketch off with it while the bear is 10' away with his back turned for two seconds. Got it.
@William Vega yes a bears claws and paw is one of nature’s greatest killing machines
Wolves: move in, we have him surrounded
Bear: Growls as loud as possible
Wolves: ah next one boys this meals taken
That grizzly never lost control of his temper. Never stood up or charged. Wild.
Predators know that even with numbers to advantage, one swipe all it takes. Not wanting to die, predators never charge
That grizzly was probably thinking; I don't care what mom said, I'm not sharing. lol Good video. 👍
The Laws of nature are in some ways timeless! I liked how the bear just kept eating .He was making sure he would get while the getting was good.I wonder how many times this group goes thru these routlnes?
When you are the only one who has fries on the meal table.
Grizzly bear: well this is a problem....but not for me.
The stoic resolve of the Grizzly, in spite of the needlessly blathering humans was inspiring. 😉
I'm pretty sure the people were hundreds of meters away and were barely audible to the wolves and bear.
Grizzly: come back with 26 of your best.
Wolves: grizzly bears are a-holes!
that bear likely stole the kill from the wolves and they were returning to see if they could scare it off with more numbers. love the intellect from both sides here.
The people’s reactions on these type of wildlife videos is why I watch them
I've seen this a few times in Yellowstone, it is very common. The bear will literally sleep on the kill for days. Interestingly, the wolves likely made the kill, then were bumped off the carcass by the bear after they had their initial meal. As fast as a bear can be, it is uncommon for a bear to catch and kill an adult elk. So, bears benefit from the introduction of wolves.
Im not surprised, I have never really seen a bear actually go on a full on hunt before
How do they benefit from no longer needing to hibernate? Something they have evolved to do over 10+thousand years. Wolves leaving carcasses everywhere after only eating the guts is not helping any animal, prey or predators alike.
@@widowmakergod4892 I hope you realize that wolves and bears, have lived side by side with each other for hundreds of thousands to millions of years, right? This is not some new phenomena. Just because humans have eradicated most large predators around the world, with some being reintroduced in some places, doesn't make this scene new. Both species have managed to do just fine, LONG before human intervention really disrupted the ecosystem.
And you are grossly misinformed if you think wolves just kill animals, and leave then partially eaten. These aren't spoiled kids leaving untouched plates at the dinner table. These are wild animals, that have to kill other animals for everyday survival. They leaving NOTHING to waste. Being driven off of a kill by a larger predator, is completely different from wasting food.
Reintroduction of the wolves as they were there before we turned up to try and destroy them
@@widowmakergod4892 Of course Yellowstone bears still hibernate. And of course wolves will continue to feed on the carcass if they aren't displaced by larger predators. Even coyotes have been able to carefully take advantage of leftover scraps from wolf kills, not to mention ravens, crows, magpies, raccoons, turkey vultures, etc. Within a week the carcass is little more than a bony skeleton, and within a year it is entirely gone.
Some of the wolves look like ponies, my gosh they are formidable.
“Don’t turn your back on the Wolfpack”
Wolves: "Heeey, that's ours!!!"
Bear: "Finders keepers!!"
What scares me most isn't how powerful the bear is, but how smart the wolves are.
I don't have the facts, but I would guess that every year more grizzlies kill wolves. I don't believe its an often occurrence either way, but would still guess the grizzlies kill more wolves, than wolves kill grizzlies. I take nothing away from a wolf pack. They work rock solid as a team and each have a role.
So smart that about a dozen of them couldn't manage to get the bear's kill and walked away still hungry?
@@jailepouvoir1990 You are clearly someone without a basic education. They were smart not to get themselves killed. Maybe try moving to a real country and you'll get a basic education.
@@jailepouvoir1990 lol they all look well fed, they don’t want to risk an injury, and be out of the pack.
@@jailepouvoir1990 Those wolves weren't hungry at all lol I've seen smaller packs chase a grizzly off a kill because they were going to get that food or die. If these wolves truly wanted the kill, a pack this size would've been harassing and confusing that bear for 10-20 mins at least until the bear finally realized it wasnt worth it. But you can tell by their demeanor that they have no interest and are essentially just passing thru.
Those magpie are fearless.
