Well done mate, credit to you for posting this and learning from your mistakes, it's a rough way to learn but you have learnt and that's the greatest lesson in life
That looks nuts. Chuck the bonnet & wheels on and roll it outside, grab a chair and a beer and sit back and soak it in. While your there go back and watch your first video. Hold a pic of the ute when it arrived from SA up and look at what you have achieved. It's your first paint job, no one expects you to nail it first go but imagine how you'd feel getting same or worse results back after paying some place 10 - 15k . keep us posted on recommendations...
Thanks for posting this even though I'm sure it's a painful time for you. I've learned a ton from watching your videos and I think there's some big lessons here too. You'll get it sussed and have one of the toughest, tidiest utes on the planet soon. Keep at it, I watch every HX One Tonner video and if you ever take on another project you can bet I'll watch that too 🤘
Respect for putting this video up! It’s good to see that building a car isn’t always perfect as much as we all wish it was. Top job on the build, can’t wait to see it all fixed up and onto the next step 🤙
Keep your chin up Sam. Whilst the finish is not up to your very high standards, you should be proud of what you have achieved so far with this build. The paint finish and banana line is an unfortunate setback, but I’m sure you will get the paint finish sorted and it will look mint when it’s complete. This build is one of the best I’ve ever seen and your attention to detail is exceptional. Hang in there mate and kudos to you for sharing this. Look forward, not backwards mate. 👍🏻
Sam! You are a bloody Legend! Stumbled upon your channel whilst browsing the tube... Great to see you striving for perfection! And being honest about the steps along the way. I'M sure that you're educating many people on a variety of topics as well as learning yourself!! Very Positive content ! Keep up the good work cuz!!!!
Chin up buddy, it looks awesome, and the fact that you've done all this work on ya own is something to be proud of, people out there pay for paint jobs and someone to build their car. Keep up the great work mate it's inspirational to all of people. I've had 3 project cars and failed by not finishing them or financial reasons so watching someone do a high standard of work and being self-taught is all inspiring.
Hi Sam, try blending the areas you aren't happy with basecoat wise, then flowcoat on the dry spray cleared areas. it will end up like glass! do a search for flowcoat mate.
Another good honest with no hiding the real issues video bro. I’m sure you being the perfectionist I know you to be, this will get fixed to your expectations in no time.
Hey Sam have you had it outside in natural light.. All in all mate the clear could be cut sanded and buffed to get your desired result or finish mate.. Still looks mint the colours awesome mate..
Hey Sam , hit the entire ute with orbital sander and soft back sponge with 600 Use grey scotch near and on edges Then respray base then clear. I’d give it time for reducer to fully evap
Now I've watched the second half. Keep your head up. You've done so much well it's no surprise an amatuer would have issues with the type of finish you're looking for. Brave to put up the errors. Please explain what old mate says so we can all get something out of it.
Thanks for posting. Its not want you want to do but you are making the right decision, if you don’t redo it to the way you want it you will hate that you didn’t do it when you had the chance
Oh man I feel your pain 💔 that would be frustrating but nothing that can't be remedied and good job being honest and open with the results definitely good content for anyone doing this themselves good luck man

Great vid. Inspiring and educational too. Lot of CZcamsrs are on Xmas break so you're much appreciated. Thanks for all the detail commentary on what you've used and done etc. Very helpful.
Keep your chin up Sam. What you have achieved with this build from your own hands is an absolute credit to you. Hard to learn lessons after the fact but you will grow from it. Shame you found the body line issues after the paint went on mate. As it is isn’t a true candy you should be able to address the issues of the body lines then blend the colour again. As for the clear sounds like it was applied a little dry or overspray landed. Colour sand and polish should sort that.
Don't be to hard on yourself, you have just painted a car, for the 1st time with high end paint in your shed, and so it didn't come out as good as you hoped, so what, it still looks bloody good, don't forget the ground work is done and it can be fixed. (you learn more from mistakes). Mark elliott's comment is spot on.... I think I have mentioned before, you should consider paying a pro to spray that colour in a controlled environment. The hole job is a credit to ya👍👍
Feel your pain mate It shits you when you do all that work and you get let down and angry with yourself But don’t give up it’s all a learning curve and you will learn from this😡😡 👍👍
I love the colour. I can't help but wonder if the bonnet primer was contaminated with oil when you used it as a table to eat your chips on. Greasy fool will penetrate even bare metal. :)
geeez that color looks great !!!! awsome custom work too hopefully nothings in the base coat and that a sand and more clear will be ok, either way whatever you decide, looks FANTASTIC
Hi mate either use a orbital sander but a no more than a 3mm orbit with a soft pad ; use 1500 so minimal rub throughs but enough to face it down , just re base it mate nice and even you all ready have coverage so just focus in even coats to get rid of that blotchy mottle , re clear it and you will have no regrets,
I feel your pain mate, just had to spray my car twice not long ago. Came up Decent the second time tho and it felt great. So you will have that to look forward to. You will be very determined to nail it the second time so I've got no doubt you'll smash it out of the park. Chin up!

Thanks Mate. Its actually surprising how many people have left comments saying they have to paint there car twice or sometimes 3 times. Its not ideal but its better knowing im not the only one...
Hey mate don't let it get you down, i tried painting my vn commodore and it's not as easy as it looks so i know how you feel. Keep at it, looks awesome 👌
Love you attention to detail brother and those little imperfections ca be addressed but as you say that paint ain’t cheap but if you want perfection then money can’t be a objection in putting out a high classed vehicle. That colour certainly leaps out at you and can’t wait to see the detail of it out in the sun and if you can get to Rocky Nats. Congrats on your great work but don’t let it get you down and the end is in sight, hard yards are done so it’s nearly feet up and beers flowing time.👊👍💪👌👌👌

So went got my ticket, started following as i have gemi wagon similar colour. 13bT. Hay hope you have then help around you to sort it out brother 👊
I have been watching your channel here in the U. S. for about two weeks now. I know there are going to be some things or processes called out by different names. There is one particular process that you call “rubbing-out” that I would like to call your attention to. Here in the U. S. , when using sandpaper to finish a surface, we call that process “sanding”. If I was to tell a coworker or a friend that I was going to go rub out or rub back something, they would probably look at me in a strange way. My advice would be for you to research what exactly rubbing out or rubbing back something means and adjust your description accordingly. Also, there is a difference between a shed and a garage. Getting past all of that, I do enjoy watching your videos and getting a laugh every once and a while. Keep up the good work and stop talking about rubbing out or rubbing back your finishes inside your shed which is technically a garage or workshop. Cheers, Mate!
Aaaahhhh mate.... she looks bloody nice but a shame it didn't come out as you were hoping. Good on ya for posting it up too mate. I've been hanging to see what it would look like in that colour.
yeah that's a bummer mate . banana lines will be easy to fix with a block and wet checking it , guards will most likely need to be primed again where any possible rub throughs are from blocking . bonnet really just needs to be sanded back with 800 and the sides blended in and re-cleared . the drivers side really just needs another couple of coats of Color. probably a good idea to paint the insides and get ya seats fitted etc before painting the outside . doing the insides of a shell first is always a good idea , saves the risk of over spray on the outside . always here to answer questions bro . let me know how you go
