As Pastor of a Church I was offered a sneak preview of Journey to Bethlehem - along with my wife and kids. This movie is simply outstanding!
This is simply a beautiful retelling of the events leading up to the birth of Jesus. The costumes are good, the scenery and camera work create a worthy visual experience. The actors are well chosen and extremely likeable. This movie has managed to stay Biblically accurate and yet allow the characters to be human - like we are. There are real emotions and humor displayed, which allow us to connect more deeply with the reality and depth of this story.
I am trained in classical music and Theology and can say that I was pleased in many ways with this musical movie. The Jewish elements of arranged weddings, customs, agriculture and travel were all well depicted. I had wondered how they would handle the place of birth and was impressed that even in this detail this movie chose the correct locale.
Few are aware of just how dangerous and deranged King Herod was, and this movie along with a very credible performance by Antonio Banderas give Herod all that delusional jealousy and megalomania. History has shown that Herod had his wife, her mother, her brother and 3 of his sons murdered. Banderas shows off his vocal abilities and truly brings his character Herod to center stage with a full range of emotions. His song was a high point musically and dramatically.
The musical aspects far exceeded my expectations! Several of the songs will no doubt become top hits and I have no doubt this will become a staple for High School and College musicals. There is true musical talent in this music and even the coldest hearts will melt and shed tears. This movie is fun, touching and offers a human connection to the Bible’s greatest event. Suitable for all audiences!

Since this was not simply reading Scripture, there are things added.
History informs us that Herod had a son named Antipater, and that he had him killed. In the movie Antipater shows up for the birth of Jesus (this is not in the Bible).
There is a touching scene in which John the Baptist's father (Zechariah a priest) marries Joseph and Mary. This is not in the Bible, but we know they would have gotten married at some point.
Three wise men are shown in movie, but Scripture does not say how many there were, or that one was black.
The Bible does not mention Mary's parents or possible sisters.
This movie forgot to have another angel/vision given to Joseph telling him to take his new family to safety in Egypt.@@tiafletcher8242
Except that no one is rewriting Scripture. The Bible is not in question or danger because this movie has added historical, imaginative or artistic touches.

If in the night, darkness you see someone in dark robes, with cat or reptile like eyes, deep devilish, scary voice , levitating like in some occult ritual better say a prayer, exorcism (if you know any) or sing a psalm. Meeting a demon you wouldn't laugh, neither seeing an Angel. Did you notice how frightened were people, saints in the presence of biblical Angels? Only Tobias family was fine but they had no idea who is with them. And Mary didn't even notice the difference. She is so pure, real reflection of God's beauty.
This version of Gabriel is so captivating and it's gonna make audiences who see this film feel breathless!

Biblical Angels appear to humans as young males, command respect for God. In this scene it's not happening. It's the opposite what an Angel would do and sold to people as funny.
Before coming of Holy Ghost he creates here 'some ambience', scares young Virgin Mary. Unbelievable.

As soon as Gabriel yelled, "MARY!" and his eyes glowed bright blue, I felt like a two-year-old who was sitting on Santa's lap and I started crying hysterically. I couldn't sleep yesterday and cried until I had no more tears left. I was traumatized.
I get it I too noticed his eyes were weird.
This is how demons are depicted not Angels of God. Movies are about bringing, stirring emotions. In the presence of Angels we would feel different then this movie shows. It was more like Disney Maleficient, making people attracted to, approve evil.

@VictoriaRamos-jz6mb, I can understand how when his eyes glow that electric blue, that that moment would be a little shocking. But then he immediately had a calm, soothing voice & was trying to reassure Mary.
My reaction was a bit different than yours. I was in awe, which is exactly how we as earth creatures SHOULD feel when in the presence of a heavenly being. I mean, the angels are constantly in the presence of Almighty God. We should feel awe!
I think you overreacted. But just maybe you're feeling overwhelmed by the holiness of God. Maybe God thru the Holy Spirit is drawing you to Himself. Seek God while He may be found.

Man, I'm telling you. I wasn't dxpecting that. Your scene is short but its one of the scene to remember in this movie.
Gabriel is shockingly amazing. The way he delivers the most beautiful news to Mary that she is going to be pregnant with baby Jesus is absolutely breathtaking. Lecrae is the most accurate version of Gabriel ever. And even though people hate on, spit, attack, and threaten Mary for her surprising pregnancy, she takes in all what Gabriel said, "Nothing is impossible with God." Joseph and Antipater are my favorite characters because they are Milo Manheim and Joel Smallbone

Very often in the scene of the he Angelic Annunciation Virgin Mary is standing or sitting, praying or reading scriptures while Archangel Gabriel is kneeling. She is his Queen. Queen of the Angels. And it's proper depiction. He came to prepare Her not frighten, not to talk down.
Nowadays, game creators use images of Angels and fallen one to create twisted worlds, destroy image of God and Angels in people's hearts. Why would Christian artists do it?
In my opinion, this movie is suggesting teenagers: 'it's ok to be confused, entitled, if you are then you are like Mother Mary' or 'Mother Mary was like you' -> anything goes. No suggestions to aspire to trust God like She did or to be like Enoch at least.
The song of three girls in this movie is similar to song in 'Bride and Prejudice' with Aishwarya Rao, based on 'Pride and Prejudice' when the heroin is singing what kind of husband she wants. They are bringing the Bible to the level of modern pop culture instead of lifting people to long for Bible's reality, beauty, God's love, Holy Ghosts gifts, blessings.
This scene of annunciation is an example of calling good evil, very narcissistic thing.
In real life, if you meet a person who scares you, shouts at you, talks down please check 'Narcissistic Red Flags'.
BTW did you notice transformation of Barbie? Movies with Barbie for very young girls depicted her as really kind, very friendly. In this last famous movie she is woke.

Lady, how many times are you going to go on about this. Lol. Read the Bible. ANGELS are not little chubby babies with wings flying around. There are descriptions of them in the bible. For example

There are many descriptions, all of which are NOT squishy little fairly tale angels you may imagine up in your mind.

Fallen Angels are afraid of Her, avoid even saying Her name. Ask Fr. Chad Ripperger or Fr. Vincent Lempert who perform exorcisms. Fr. Ripperger once got confession of lucifer that Mother Mary is so beautiful. He is jealous of Her beauty which mirrors God's beauty.
